I'm making a god, with a random smite table. I'm looking for various ways to smite people to put on the table. So far, I have locusts, lice, speaking in tongues, a pillar of salt, boils, a massive downpour of rain and a giant fist made of force. Can anyone suggest more smites that would fit in with a sort of Old-Testament flavor?

Rivers running red with blood or rust. The death of new borns (Going for the rest of the plagues you missed). Turning whole land scapes into unusable minerals. Turning grain into crab grass. Blizzards in the middle of summer. Floods...for that matter, even in mountains.

Crushing despair settles over the land like a cloud.
Invading Army.
Kidney Stones. (both of the last two are directly from the OT)
Darkness of course is classic.
Barrenness of all women.
Drought.
Fire from heaven.
Men get menstrual pains in face of great danger. (Irish myth background.)
Horrible Deadly Disease.
Everybody gets one wish come true, but doesn't know that they do. (No getting stuff from nowhere though, always comes from somewhere.)
Everyone's alignment gets shifted by one step.

Might be a few copies in here.

Taking a few of the more interesting curses i've ever encountered:

Morphed into a pillar of salt.
Your name causes intense hate.
Your smile causes intense physical pain when viewed by those you love.
All you hate become lucky.
Greedy thoughts causes your eyes to weep blood for a night and a day.
Weeds grow under your body with frightening speed [straw beds can be deadly]
You lose moments of time whenever threatened [basically standing and staring]
You constantly smell of death, to the point where you draw clouds of flies
Your children turn into monsters, especially minotaurs.
You lose interest in your own species and become sexually attracted to another species, say, Orcs.
Your wounds burn with blue fire that ignites your clothing but causes you no damage.
Whenever you say a person's name, they hear it as a grave insult.

The cause should reflect the effect. A person who takes your god's name in vein could be cursed to speak nothing but expletives. A person who reads impious books like pornography or demonic texts could be cursed to speak only the holy texts. Someone who watches women lecherously (peeping tom) could be cursed to view all people as horrific monsters.

You are cursed with complete anonymity- everyone forgets who you are, nobody listens to you, see's right through you, ignores you, ect.

You are cursed with complete anonymity- everyone forgets who you are, nobody listens to you, see's right through you, ignores you, ect.

And then you are the best assassin ever.

Not much of a curse in a killing intensive game.

Anyway...curses:
-Your eyes constantly bleed, making your sight really bad (auto fail spot checks, all enemies gain concealment 20%)
-You get an electrical shock every time you touch a metal. (say 1d6?)
-Nobody believes a word you say, ever. (auto fail intimidate, bluff and diplomacy.)
-Every time you kill you have a chance to die. includes unintelligent creatures, even pests. (1% so you won't die too fast.)

That's all I got for now.

I'm not sure where I first heard this but

"May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits."

Seems like a pretty harsh smiting to me.

Gaining the [Evil] tag while retaining their normal alignment, making them viable for smite evil-ing and other holy mojo. If you're god's not good, adjust to the appropriate opposed alignment.

A bare foot squishing the blasphemer ala monty python.

How are lice at all threatening, besides causing itchyness?

How about the black plague and rat swarms? That's an obvious one.

How about forcing them to grow very long beards (even if they're female) and recite religious mantra completely opposite in belief to those currently main stream in the universe, thus earning the victim persecution by the populace? It's funny and it sorta makes sense.

Intense beams of light that blind and cause severe sunburn. Like skin cancer serious.

Very heavy hail.

Leprosy.

Victim becomes a blind and unwilling prophet that can communicate with angels (or whatever divine creature fits the deity) and must carry out menial divine duties on the material plane (like an unwilling messiah that's a sort of cleric). They are likely also given extreme attention by the populace, which is unnerving on their part.

Read the old testament for some of the evil crap that god did, since I can't remember any of it (and haven't really read it). :smalltongue:

Causing the earth to open and swallow a few hundred (specific) people isn't so evil when they were rebelling against your orders even though you did crazy-awesome things for them. Those guys totally deserved it.

Those guys totally deserved it.

I disagree. How about...taking away the awesome gifts and making them learn their lesson by doing something less...drastic? Pretty sure killing people is mean, whichever way you look at it. Then again, we should probably stay away from this stuff, considering.

I agree with the above posts for curses. They seem to have it down.
