I don't quite remember who it was by. I'll put the plot in spoilers to be nice but believe me, This book isn't worth reading. no not even then.

Okay. it starts out with Interesting enough Characters. An Archaeologist girl, her boyfriend I think and their friend. They wake something up in the sewers and their friend gets killed by it. Later there are two other Characters. the Archaeologist's ex boyfriend's girlfriend and Some Girl Named Dancy. She's the only one who's name I could remember. Eventually the Archaologist and her ex are the only ones left alive and they have to kill the thing which is a demonic TRILOBYTE. For those of you who don't know it's a bit like a Horseshoe crab.

can somebody remind me which Author I have to hate forever?

That sounds like the storyline for a fine direct-to-dvd-and-into-bargain-bin movie. :D

Based on the information you've given, I'm guessing it's this one (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451458583/booksiloved22-20).

Hmm...maybe it's got something, given Neil Gaiman praised it. Or is his word no good here? :smallconfused:

Not this book (http://www.amazon.com/Threshold-Sara-Douglass/dp/0765342774/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259647219&sr=1-1) by Sara Douglass? I rather liked this one.

The book had appealing characters. It also had a pretty appealing plot until you found out what the badguy really was and that none of it actually happened in the first place. Plus I think the author is addicted to the F word.

It's not the Sara Douglass one. I've read that one a couple of times and it's about homocidal pyramids and craft magic.

I tried reading some Sara Douglass once, but bounced off of the competent but dull prose, combined with what had all the harbingers of being Another Dark Lord in the North plot. If I'm gonna read one of those, at least have the grace to be amusing about it
