You open your eyes. You don't move for a second as you try to figure out whats going on. As your senses return to you you look around and realize you don't know where you are, or for that matter, why you are there. You sit up and look around. You are on a flight of stairs in a cave of some sort. The way back up is blocked by a rock slide. You won't be going that way, it seems. The way down levels off before to long. The natural stone floor and walls have some sort of phosphorescent fungus growing in them which is providing enough light to see by, but it is far from bright.

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac357/KouryCasey/DCoAEnterance.jpg

You are at the top of the stairs.

Drodic
2009-12-05, 08:00 PM
I move to the bottom of the stairs.
Have Kitty Kat to go into the area ahead along the left wall for 10 rounds, telling him if he finds anything to come back.
meanwhile I am waiting on the stairs for him to return.

Koury
2009-12-05, 08:08 PM
You take a seat on the stairs as your cat runs out of sight, down the hall to the left. A second or two later you begin picking up feelings of curiosity from your familiar. About 15 seconds after leaving you see Kitty slink back into view, looking at you meaningfully.

Drodic
2009-12-05, 08:15 PM
I pet Kitty and tell him to stay at my feet at all times.

I go to the corner and stick my head out an look around, trying to be relatively sneaky.

Checks (Anything in spoilers isn't for you.)
[roll0]
[roll1]

You cautiously peak out from the corner. The hallway expands both to the left and right. The hall on the right turns south about 10 feet from where you are, but the left hall goes a ways before turning to the north. The left hall also has another branch going south about twenty feet from you. The phosphorescent fungus continues to grow throughout all you can see.

Drodic
2009-12-05, 08:50 PM
alright, I'll cautiously take the left path, stopping where it turns south, peeking in.

Koury
2009-12-05, 08:57 PM
As you near the south hall you see its not a hall at all, but a doorway. The door is wooden and closed.

Drodic
2009-12-05, 09:02 PM
I will continue to the end of the hall, cautiously look around the corner, whether I see nothing or not I will go back to the door and check if it is locked. If not, I will open it as quietly as possible, and stick my head inside.

Koury
2009-12-05, 09:12 PM
You creep to the edge of the north hall and peak around. The hall continues north for a ways before turning out of sight. Except for the continuation of the glowing fungus, there is nothing notable.

You head back to the door and try to turn the handle. It turns freely. As you try to open the door, however, you realize that it is stuck. A quick glance and you see why. The wood has swollen and it is now too big for its frame. You could probably force it open if you tried. Opening it quietly, however, probably isn't possible.

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac357/KouryCasey/Step3.jpg

Drodic
2009-12-05, 09:21 PM
hm... Ok I will try to open the door by force.

Koury
2009-12-05, 09:34 PM
You push yourself into the door. It doesn't budge. You dig your heels in and push as hard as you can, but the door doesn't give. You take a step back and throw yourself into the wood and this time you feel it slip. You step back again and ram it once more. This time it flies open, revealing the room beyond. The room is plain and empty, save for the many rats inside. As the door slams open the rats start charging toward you.

*Kitty looks at Mr. Mage pleased, biting the head off of the nearest freshly cooked rat*

I'll search the room, taking 20

Koury
2009-12-05, 10:19 PM
You begin searching the room for anything interesting. You go slowly and deliberately, finishing about a half hour later.

With the exception of a small hole that was most likely used by the rats, you find nothing of interest in this room.

Drodic
2009-12-05, 10:28 PM

Koury
2009-12-05, 11:13 PM
The door is indeed open. As you open it and peak inside you see that this room is circular and the center is lower then the edges, like a giant bowl. In the center there is a shrine of some sort with a statue on top. There is also another closed wooden door to the east.

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac357/KouryCasey/Step8.jpg

Drodic
2009-12-05, 11:24 PM
I enter cautiously, and examine the room thoroughly. (i.e. I take 20)

Koury
2009-12-05, 11:39 PM
You search around the room but find nothing of interest. Near the end of your search you begin examining the statue on the shrine. As your hands near the mouth of the statue it opens suddenly and a needle pokes at you.

[roll0]

It hits you (unless it rolls a one. Its bonus is higher then your AC).

You take one damage. Fort save please.

Drodic
2009-12-05, 11:45 PM
"Ouch!.."

Koury
2009-12-06, 01:47 AM

Take one CON damage.

Secondary save is successful (barely). Also, that trap pushed you over 1000 XP. Normally you won't be allowed to level up without some rest but, well, Squishy Wizard (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SquishyWizard) and all.

Take your level (max hp this level) and take your next move.

Drodic
2009-12-06, 08:34 PM
K I've leveled

Alright, I'll go to the door across the way and open it.

Koury
2009-12-06, 08:45 PM
You open the door and see... another door. There is also a hall leading south about 15 feet then abruptly ending.

You find nothing of intrest. It appears to just be a dead end. You do notice the the east door is stuck but unlocked, however.

Drodic
2009-12-06, 08:58 PM
Ok. I cast Corrosive Grasp and Mage Armor.
Then try to open the door to the east by force.

Koury
2009-12-06, 09:07 PM
You grab the handle of the door and slam your body into it. This door opens easier the the last one. You quickly glance around the room and see that its empty save for some broken pottery shards and some rope strewn about. There is a door on the eastern wall.

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac357/KouryCasey/Step10.jpg

Spells:
Corrosive Grasp - 2 charges
Mage Armor - 1 hr 59 min

Keep in mind taking 20 for searches takes 2 min per square.

Drodic
2009-12-06, 09:17 PM
I'll take the rope.
And make a listen check at the east door.

Koury
2009-12-06, 09:21 PM
You pick up a section of rope about 10 ft long. You stand at the door, listening for anything out of the ordinary.

As you pass under the door a porticullis drops from the ceiling. Which way do you dive?

Drodic
2009-12-06, 09:50 PM
Oh damn... :smallsigh:
I dive in the direction I was going.

Koury
2009-12-06, 10:12 PM
You dive to the east, barely dodging the falling iron gate. The porticullis crashes into the ground with a deafening clang. The way back is now blocked. As you look around you notice that the north hall leads to a door and also turns to the west. You look to the eastern hall just in time to see a grey skinned muscular humanoid with no visible eyes turn the corner, obviously come to investigate the noise. He is weilding a battleaxe and is wearing a crown that seems to be made of copper.

Koury
2009-12-06, 10:30 PM
You close with the beast and swing at him with your fist, summoning up the stored spell energy as you do. Sadly you fail to hit your mark. Your opponent raises his axe and lets out a roar as he swings.

[roll0]
[roll1]

You raise your arm instinctivly against his axe. You immediately regret it as his axe digs into your forearm.

Spells:
Corrosive Grasp - 2 charges (I see nothing saying misses expend charges)
Mage Armor - 1 hr 58 min

Your familiar may act if you wish, or he can stay with you.

As he pulls his axe out of your arm and pulls back to swing again you see an opening. You lunge forward with your good arm and manage to make contact, sending a surge of acid into him.

Enraged, he swings at you again, seemingly trying to end this now.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Your lucky day. I rolled two ones for damage. You are sitting at 1 hp.

Spells:
Corrosive Grasp - 1 charge
Mage Armor - 1 hr 58 min

Koury
2009-12-06, 10:54 PM
His second blow lands cleanly, throwing you off balance. You try to make contact with him again and unload the rest of your spell into him but you miss. Sensing his chance, the monster brings his axe down hard.

[roll0]
[roll1]

His axe slams into the ground next to you, the power behind his swing evident.

Koury
2009-12-06, 11:17 PM
Your opponent's axe is stuck in the ground. You attempt to take advantage of his situation and strike at him. He leaves his axe in the ground momentarily and dodges to the left. You swing again but again he dodges, this time back toward his axe. He grasps it firmly and pulls it out of the ground, taking a step back from you. You are both standing there for the slightest second before he lunges at you once more.

[roll0]
[roll1]

He smiles as it seems like his axe finds it mark. The smile quickly turns to confusion however, as his axe is stopped millimeters from your torso by your force armor. You could feel the force behind the blow and know that you owe your life to your protective spell.

[roll1]

Koury
2009-12-06, 11:32 PM
You smirk to yourself, knowing that you've got him. As he pulls his ax back you step inside his range and place your hand square on his chest, unleashing the remainder of your spells energy into his body. He drops his axe and clutches at his chest. You see his skin start to bubble and boil. He first falls to his knees, then forward onto his face, his crown falling from his head and tinking across the ground. He is dead.

Continue.

You lucky beast.

Drodic
2009-12-06, 11:35 PM
I take his crown and put it atop my head.
I search his body.

Koury
2009-12-06, 11:37 PM
You search through his body, finding a pouch containing about 300 silver pieces. Aside from his battleaxe he has nothing else of value.

Drodic
2009-12-06, 11:40 PM
I take the silver pieces and leave the body.
I look around the corner of the far hall.

...and I pet Kitty

Koury
2009-12-06, 11:49 PM
You peer around the corner and see that there is an archway leading into a room. You can't see all the room from where you stand.

Koury
2009-12-07, 03:29 AM
As the whole of the room comes into view you note how unassuming it is. There is a wooden door to the northwest and a number of stones scattered throughout the room.

Koury
2009-12-07, 09:46 PM
The door to the northeast in the rubble strewn room is indeed stuck. You head back to the unexplored hall and peak down it. There is a door a little ways down to the west. The you check door that is now directly north of you, and find it appears to be unlocked and unstuck. The door to the west of you is stuck, however.

You peak into the room. It is plain, like the others here, except for the thick webbing covering the roof. There is a wooden porticullis blocking off the path that heads east out of this room. The way west, however is an open archway. You spot a giant spider amongst the webs and hear it scuttling about. You are fairly certian that it didn't see you, but you are unsure if it knows someone is here.

And oh yeah, make a will save.

Drodic

[roll0]

^^ then, if nothing happens because of that, ^^

I try to close the door sneakily...and hope that giant spiders can't open a door (because that's scary :smalleek:) and go back to the far room. Then I'll have Kitty go wait by the door, (to where he can see the end of the hall) assuming he will give off some kind of fear sensation if it sees a GIANT SPIDER. Then ready Ray of Frost for anything that comes through the door.
If nothing happens for 5 minutes, I will take 20 on searching the room, still having Kitty watching the hall. Then I will attempt to rest.
Not changing prepared spells.

Koury
2009-12-07, 10:50 PM
When you opened the door to the spiders room you felt a wave of magical energy wash over you, but you were able to resist whatever effects it may have had.

You close the door and retreat to the stone covered room, taking position to blast anything should it enter through that archway. After a few minutes you begin to relax. Hopefully it didn't see you and isn't coming. You then turn your attention to the room you are in. If you're going to be here a while, you may as well make sure its safe.

And what do you know, your search turns something up. As you move some of the stones about you notice a latch low to the ground. It seems to open a hidden door heading south.

Drodic

Hmm...no...I don't think it will.. but I will pile up all the rocks in the room against the secret door, somewhat loosely (in hopes of them falling if the door is opened, waking/alerting me)

Koury
2009-12-08, 05:38 AM
After finishing making your pile of rocks/alarm system you find as comfortable a spot as you can and go to sleep.

To your surprise, you awaken about 6 hours later still alive. Your cat is huddled around your feet, asleep. You glance around and notice all seems to be well. Your stack of rocks is in place and nothing else seems to be out of the ordinary. You feel rested enough and begin going about preparing your spells. As you sit up and begin to pour through your spellbook your cat awakens. He stretches out, walks over to the archway and looks back at you. You get the feeling he wants to go exploring on his own while you finish your preparations.

Post Rest Check Up (You may open these):
You currently have 2281 XP; next level at 3000.
Your point of CON damage has recovered.
You have healed 4 hp in addition to that and are now at 6/12 hp total.

Koury
2009-12-11, 08:24 PM
Your cat runs off happily and you continue preparing your spells. You feel curiosity from your link for a few minutes, which then changes to happiness. About a half hour later your familiar returns, still chewing half a mouse.

You finally finish preparing your spells, about two hours after you woke up. You begin moving the rocks from in from of the secret door, having decided to go that way. You finish moving them and pull on the latch, opening the door with a small *click*

The room beyond is plain, except for a small overhang dug into the wall in the southwest corner. It seems to be half filled with hay.

There are no further exits.

It was hard to tell through all that blood you lost :smallamused:

He yells something in Dwarven, stows his crossbow, draws his warhammer and closes the distance, ending 10 ft in front of you.

Burning Hands doesn't take an attack roll. He makes a reflex save.

The dwarf raises his shield and blocks the worst of your attack. He closes the rest of the distance with you and swings.

So... -13 HP means you, sir, are dead.

What would you like to do about this? We can do a few things, I suppose.

New Character/New Dungeon
New Character/Reset Current Dungeon
Raise Current Character (With some sort of punishment)

What sounds best to you?

If we Raised this one I'd either cut your level down to 2 (1500 XP) or take 2 out of either STR, DEX, CON or INT.

Drodic
2009-12-15, 09:33 PM
Could we perhaps continue Drodics (http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/profiler/view_char.php?cid=31722) campaign? :smallconfused:

Koury
2009-12-15, 09:36 PM
Or we could pull him into a new campaign. I honestly don't recall much of what was going on with him.

New campaign would have him retain current gear and XP.

Drodic

he was scouting out a nobles property and got his ass handed to him by a pissed off druid that let him go. was on my way back to town :smalltongue:

If you'd like, you can add two flaws/traits to him.

Drodic
2009-12-15, 10:00 PM
Hmm... no...I don't think I will..

actually, I'll take Quick and Noncombatant

Koury
2009-12-15, 10:04 PM
Noncombatant on your scythe user? :smallconfused:

EDIT: Oh, I think I know what you're doing. You don't need a flaw to take a trait. Flaws give feats, traits are just traits.

Drodic
2009-12-15, 10:09 PM
Well, I use my bow a lot more than I use my scythe, although it did save me from some werewolves and a rather large platoon of goblins and waargs..oh and the hydra... :smalleek: maybe I'll take shaky instead..

Koury
2009-12-15, 10:15 PM
Your bow is a MW composite (+3 str) longbow. Once you get a decent scythe it'll do even more. But your bow will always be good for you. I'd avoid shaky and noncombatant all together.

Inattentive, unresponsive, murky-eyed, the ones that give -3 to fort/ref/will, these are all good options. What feats you take is up to you.

WF (Scythe) would be a start.

Drodic

hehe yeah:smallredface:
I'll take meager fortitude

I'd recommend taking another flaw. Feats are rare.

I'm rolling multiple rounds to not spam our thread. Also, it doesn't matter at all, it just occurred to me that your cat has a decent chance.

OK, is someone dead yet?

EDIT: :smalleek: You cat WINS!! The reroll was a hit, bringing your cat to one hp. All the d20s move up one slot because of the reroll being a 20 (so the next one gets used as a crit confirm, but it missed). Your cat finishes off the dwarf, however, a few rounds later. It had 8 hp and you dealt 3 to it w/ your burning hands.

Drodic
2009-12-15, 10:49 PM
Pretty sure Kitty gets crushed by a crit with that re-roll :smalleek:

EDIT: Could I take a Flaw that gives say, +2 to INT but -2 to STR, then take a trait that does opposite that? so I get a feat, and no real stat change? :smallconfused:

Koury
2009-12-15, 10:53 PM
I edited my post w/ the results of the battle. Is Drodic updated and ready to roll? I've got what I need to continue with him when you are ready.

Drodic

Does he get to level? he totally should be able to. oh and I edited my last post.

Koury
2009-12-15, 10:57 PM
To your edited question:

Pretty much, no. Flaws always detract more then a feat could give. For example, Meager Fort is -3 fort. The feat that adds to Fort is +2, so it'd just be a -1 for no reason. Same with the Ref and Will versions. The -6 init flaw vs the +4 init feat. See how it works?

Also, there is no trait that adds to Stats, IIRC. And the ones that take away, well, you don't qualify for Pathetic, so you can't take it anyway.

EDIT: Sure, your cat can level. Why not. Congrats, you were out performed by your familiar :smallamused:

Drodic
2009-12-15, 11:00 PM
wasnt planning on it to work, but was just something I was wondering. also, I need to take lvl 6 for stats then 7th is my 1st SD lvl correct? or is lvl 6 my 1st SD lvl?

EDIT: but at a loss, his poor little tail was shattered :smallfrown:

Looking up your question, sec.

Koury
2009-12-15, 11:17 PM
RAW seems to say you need to be lvl 7 rogue before you can take SD, since you need 10 ranks FIRST, THEN you can choose SD.

I'll allow lvl 7 to be your first SD level though, if you want, just because I don't like it the other way.

Mind you, there are merits to lvl 7 rogue (more sneak attack, for one).

Drodic
2009-12-15, 11:19 PM
I probably will wait before I go SD, but just wanted to know

EDIT: Do I qualify for Spring Attack yet? If so, thats what I would want to take for a feat. Also what did we decide observant was? as a trait

Koury
2009-12-15, 11:22 PM
When Drodic is ready to go, let me know, and we'll get started. I'll start him in town and full health, having just returned from his druidic ass-whipping.

Koury
2009-12-15, 11:30 PM
Spring Attack requires +4 BAB. Rogues don't have +4 BAB until lvl 6. At lvl 6, yes, you qualify.

EDIT: Lvl 6 gives you a feat all by itself, also.

I think it was +1 will, -1 fort or some such. It was whatever one isn't in the book. Basically, you can trade -1 F/R/W for +1 F/R/W. Thats a trait, not a flaw, and doesn't give a feat though.

Drodic
2009-12-15, 11:41 PM
i knew it would be a trait, but i was wondering what we said it was.

i was thinking of taking SA as my next feat if i met prereqs, so i guess that will be my next feat i take. but i must get off for the night so i will continue this tomorow
