Has anybody figured a way to make the game ending more fun?

I always get the feeling that we should have to fight our way to Xykon, so he'd be at the bottom of the throne room stack, instead of the top.

You know, like happens in the comic...

Thematically i believe that the other rooms represent the fight to get to Xykon.

You could put the monsters in top of Xykon and count him as the top monster for assist values (and keep those even if monsters are destroyed), but that makes it a cakewalk for Roy.

You can make Xykon the very least card of the last floor. You can also add more rooms in Xykons floor.
Or you can let Unique Monsters have 2 wounds (Redcloak 3, Xykon 4). If you deal area damage, the unique monster and monsters below it get damage, those below die thus maybe weaken the unique. A win still counts as a win and you can go on fighting another battle against the same monster (without cleavage bonus).
You could also add rpg-guidlines... Roy and Durkon assist everytime they are asked, Haley accepts every offer, Durkon heals whenever he is needed. Using those guidelines you can cut down RL-fighting during the game by 70%!^^
