Now here's a fun idea. What 2 class combination would you say makes the best representitive of the Librarian unit in warhammer 40 000. Obviously you have to be a psychic of some sort as well as with access to the heaviest armor and weapons. What do you guys think ? What 2 class would be best combined to get the librarian represented ?

Obviously - Race has to be human. Has to have access to martial weapons. Librarians normally used heavy blades or staves. They basically use their abilities to boost their own combat skills, support allies and blast enemies. What do you guys think ?

Psion/Fighter or Psion/Cleric

Psychic warrior (or possibly psion)- and maybe knight?

Space marines have a whole lot of armour- and make full use of it.

At least some of the time, they also use shields (combat shield, storm shield)

Though neither seem to be common on Librarians.

Wouldn't use humans, as space marines are about 9 feet tall super strong warriors.

I'd make him a psychic warrior/warblade. One big psychically amplified super hit is something they should be able to do.

Do tell - Doesn't Psion have horrifically low hit die ? And why cleric ?

So - half giant then ?

I figured on psychic warrior because of him being warrior first, caster second- still- it might be a bit lacking in suitable powers.

Knight because I wasn't sure warblades fitted perfectly- aren't they more for light, fast moving guys?

Space marines, despite the heavy appearance can run faster than an average human, even in their powered armour. They can also strike pretty quickly. They are basically the Marty Stus of the warhammer 40K universe.

Warblades are also pretty good as armoured bruisers that don't need to move much anyway though.

Or would be, if there weren't so many other things that are just as, if not more powerful than they are. For instance, CSM, or Necrons.

CSM don't count as different, and necrons haven't been given the million updates and variants the latter two have. Besides, while 1 necron is better than one space marine, necrons have some pretty huge weaknesses by contrast that give them a tough time in actual matches. :smalltongue:

I'd say the best representation would be something like a Goliath Crusader 3 / Psion 2 / Sanctified Mind / Illithid Slayer.

What About Half Giant psychic warrior/warmind ?

psychic warrior into warmind is actually a touch redundant. Getting into it with psion warblade would probably be better in the long run.

Ehhh. Unlike Marty Stu's Space Marines listen to orders from someone.

Or the Inquisition has them put to the death. You don't screw with the Inquistors (they might be Marty Stu's... except for the fact that their bloody, destructive and callous disregard for human life does have consequences.)

Mary/Marty Stu isn't just about power. Read the fluff, and the amount of attention they get. SMs definitely qualify, with ridiculous amounts of random abilities tacked on, even where they make no sense at all.

Actually read up on that a bit more. The inquisition does not get to dictate the actions of the space marines, nor do the high lords of terra. While the space marines are obligated to allow inquiries into their actions, it is not required, and there are many instances where the inquisition has been denied access to astartes resources. The dark angels being the most common source.

As much as I love warhammer 40 000 - can we please keep this on topic. Atleast GW's love for SM keeps all the other ranges going. Now - back to creating a librarian for use in dnd.

But the inquisition culd declare them traitors and drive them out of imperial space. Wuoldn't be a fantastic idea but the inquisition really does have no limits.

maybe Wilder would be a place to start?

A librarian is a space marine who happens to have psychic powers- so I think it should probably be a short (but very powerful) prestige class added on to an existing fighting class- possibly with a prerequisite like Wild Talent.

So, something like a 10th level Fighter (or some other class like it) and levels in the "Librarian" PRC reserved for those with Wild Talent and Space-Marine type abilities?

You mean like fighter/warmind ?

Maybe with a few extra powers- librarians seem to have quite a few flashy powers, even if their power lists tend to be short.

I'd personally just do it as a Psychic Warrior, using Expanded Knowledge to get the flashier powers. A force weapon'd probably just be refluffed deep crystal or something.

What's Deepcrystal ?

It's basically a force weapon. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/specialMaterials.htm#crystalDeep)

Fighter/psion if you want to go for the good BAB/smite powers look, Psychic warrior/nothing if you want to go for the fights with psychic powers thing, or for the same effect but more combat styled fighter/war mind. If you go for one of the non-psion roots but want to be able to use smite like powers (mind thrust is a very good representation of the actually game stats, augment it, and then you have the power) use expanded knowledge.
