View Full Version : 3.5: Pitting normal PC's versurs Gestalt enemies

Would it be reasonable and balanced to pit a party of heroes against rivals (npc enemies) built with the gestalt rules? Not extremly powergamed, just some combinations that are usefull, like a fighter/rogue. I want to give my players a challenge, but without giving their opponents that much more levels or wealth. I just want the rivals to be a cut above the heroes, to offer a challenge.
Any experiences with that?

My usual approach is something like this.
DM: Your rival casts fireball.
Player: He has levels in Wizard?
DM: Sure.

Fighter/Rogue is a Sneak Attack fighter isn't "not optimized", it's "bad". What doesn't conflict by armor/unarmored needs (sneak attack, few special abilites) is mostly by Sneak Attack fighter.
Now a Wildshape ranger (SRD) that can teleport (horizon walker) and get's some bonus feats to spend and could prehaps go into a frenzy (Barbarian/Horizon Walker//Wild Shape Ranger)? Not "crazy good" but still an intresting foe

That fighter/rouge was just the first thing that sprang to mind. I have many better ideas.
