I love screwing with my players. Giving them stuff that is totally unexpected is so much fun. In the evil campain I'm running, the party came across a nomad camp where everone was a werewolf.

So, any totally weird (but effective) class+creature combos?

One of mine is a ghoul with cleric levels leading ghasts.

Rogue stirges. I guess you'd have to awaken them first, though.

Some of the fun ones are creatures whose spell-like abilities allow them to qualify for prestige classes. I recall someone recommending a Ghost/Master of the Unseen Hand.

I've considered running an Awakened Ape Wereape Ape Totem Barbarian Apelord. Just to see the look on people's faces.

Awaken (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/awaken.htm)
Ape (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/ape.htm)
Ape Totem Barbarian variant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#apeTotemClassFeatures)
Apelord (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/prestige2.pl?Animal_Lord), from Masters of the Wild

Not sure what book the Wereape is from, though.

sonofzeal pointed you in a great direction; I love the Elite Opponents article, it's got some really great, wacky stuff.

There's some beautifully twisted stuff in there. Browse the rest of the articles too :D

Nah, Anthropomorphic Bear Werebear Bear Totem Barbarian Bear Warrior Bearlord.

Animals can't become were-creatures, only Humanoids or Giants. Thus, you need to start with an Anthro.

Oh, phooey. I don't really know what the difference between an anthro animal and an awakened one even is.

And your Bear should be riding a Dire Bear mount. :smalltongue:

No Tal:Wyrmling Black Dragon Rogues. A small pack of them. For if my players ever get overconfident.
Awakened Cheetah Scout with Spring Attack.
A Succubus with Barbarian levels. Hell may hath no fury like a woman scorned, but what about a woman from hell?
Beguiler Beguiler. Because I can.
Lantern Archon Ur-Priest. Because there's nothing like a misotheist angel to make the party Cleric squirm.
Not class levels, but a Pseudonatural Owlbear. Because those things are freaky.

I'll generally only break the mold like this if there's a reason to. No need for me to advance a Cheetah with anything other than HD most of the time, it's just a random animal. If there's a Druid in the area trying to stop someone logging a section of the forest, however, then I'll pull that sort of a maneuver.

Try searching the phrase "more tiger than you can handle." I didn't bookmark the thread, but I think you guys would like it

Found it! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122756) Still, I was expecting a Half-Rakshaka Tiger Shifter Weretiger Tiger Totem Barbarian/Tiger Samurai/Tiger Fist Monk, riding a Wild Cohort Tiger mount and shooting spirit Tigers from their fists. I will admit to being a little bit disappointed.

Mimic Assassin

It sits there for 3 rounds looking like an object and then just kills you with a pseudopod.

Actually, there's nothing stopping a Couatl from allowing itself to enter the Rainbow Servant prestige class. Heck, it already has the qualifying skills and spellcasting without character levels! Give it a CR +10, several domains, a bunch of divine spells, and you have an epic level, self-worshipping fight.
