Okay, so we're in the tavern...
What's that you say? This is the dungeon crawling game?
Right... right...
You know what, let's skip all the backstory everyone will just forget.
You are entering a dungeon, one day by wilderness from Home Base City.
(Home Base City has pretty much any non-magical items you'll want, and maybe some magic stuff too).
The stairs into it are next to you.
Any preparations before we start?

Shim Sham

I will explore ahead my fine feathered friends

With a smirk and a skip Shim gives a listen slides his sword from its sheath and slides silently into the shadows of the dungeon.

I assume there are shadows at least :smallwink:

Shim Sham

It's a 10 ft by 10 ft room, with an orc guarding a pie. locked door at the north part.

Now might be a good time to mention that someone should be keeping a map for you guys.

Goblinsplitter

Traulnok shrugs and heads to the door, opening it and stepping inside. "No need for stealth, make the monsters come to you."

If I have time before my impatient companion comes I will attempt to detect traps otherwise I will take a few steps (10ft) back before the door is opened

Goblinsplitter: are you entering the dungeon, or the door in the room crazedloon is in?
By the way, you shouldn't be reading spoilers not directed to you, just in case you are.
Shim Sham

No trap found.

crazedloon

Shim Sham

Shim steps back slipping into the shadows and allows the rest of the group to catch up and open the door all the while listening for noises to reveal what might be on the other side.

yep thought as much stepping to the corner in the room away from the door and hiding in the shadows

OoC - Just through the initial door, sorry. So now I'd be in the room.

Thelas
2009-12-09, 09:27 PM
Okay:
Goblinsplitter and Shim Sham

As I've already told one of you, the room is a 10 ft by 10 ft room. You entered by stairs from the South, and the only exit is a door with a big, though not exactly well made, lock to the North.

Now what?

Goblinsplitter
2009-12-09, 09:34 PM
Traulnok will attempt to kick down the door.

Shim Sham

Oh of course the lock let me handle that

Shim chuckles to himself and slips out of the shadow and begins to futz with the lock.

open lock 45% [roll0]

as the dwarf kick the door in Shim steps back

Well than that always works

Thelas
2009-12-09, 09:44 PM
I think that's for stuck doors, not locked ones...
*checks OSRIC*
If you have an exceptional success chance, I'll allow it. Otherwise, sorry.

In any case, because of the poor quality of the lock, the attempt at picking it succeeds, and opens into a 30 by 10 ft hallway, at the far (north) end of which is another door, this one unlocked.
By the way, who brought the food rations, waterskins, ten-foot pole, shovel, rope, grappling hook, towel, and mapping supplies?

Jokes

Hurls stands at the top of the stairs and watches the others go down. He waits a moment, then follows behind.

Perhaps you could mark certain spoilers with say, "Shim Sham + any who follow." That way you won't be repeating information if we think we shouldn't be reading spoilers.

Also, Map (http://www.editgrid.com/user/jokes/Dungeon).

"I'll go first." says Traulnok as he takes the lead. He pushes open the door and takes a few steps inside.

May Clangeddin and the great ancestors guide our journey.

Bog follows warhammer at the ready.

Band-aid box, HAH!!!

Thelas

Goblinsplitter, the door is stuck.
I'll need you to roll me a minor test of strength.

Goblinsplitter
2009-12-10, 11:47 AM
Strength 1-4
[roll0]

Traulnok kicks in the door and burst into the room, looking for something to kill.

Thelas
2009-12-10, 11:51 AM
You should be satisfied, then.
In a 15 x 10 ft room, there are exits W and E along the two longer walls, but two kobolds are occupying the squares that would allow you to reach them.
It's ALWAYS two kobolds, right?

Surprise Check!
If 1-2, you get that many surprise segments; if 3-6, no surprise for you.
[roll0]
Players, roll one to see how many the monsters get, as well.

Goblinsplitter
2009-12-10, 11:54 AM
Suprise!

Thelas

Initiative Check for Party
[roll0]
A lower roll is better for the party, because lower segments act first.

Someone roll initiative for the monsters.

(I love all these DM rolls for party, PC rolls for monsters rules)

Goblinsplitter
2009-12-10, 04:58 PM
I'm someone, last i checked. Don't hate me if its a one >.<
[roll0]

Thelas
2009-12-10, 06:32 PM
Okay, since the monsters won initiative, they'll act first.
The left kobold will attack whoever's front row left, the right one whoever's front row right.
ROLLS (no players allowed)

L: HD [roll0]; [roll1] THAC0 21; dm [roll2]
R: HD [roll3]; [roll4] THAC0 21; dm [roll5]
for conv.: mv 60, AC 7

Any observers reading the thread: explanation of the abbreviations

L: left, obviously
HD: rolling their HD
1d20: their attack
THAC0: what their THAC0 is, obviously.
dm: damage, not Dungeon Master
conv.: convenience
mv: movement, in feet per round (in combat)
AC: armor class, duh.

The left one hits AC 8 (dealing 2 points of damage on a hit), whilst the right one misses completely.

All players may now take their turns.
(If no rows, they both attack the frontmost)

Goblinsplitter
2009-12-10, 07:25 PM
I'm in the front, so I am unharmed.

Battleaxe +5

Traulnok roars in his blood lust and maks a powerful swing at both kobolds.

Bogrun readys an action to cast cure light wounds on any injuries

Thelas
2009-12-10, 08:30 PM
And that's one encounter with no injuries...
I need to turn up the Gygaxianness, don't I?

Well, anyways, XP and loot.
As per D&D rules, one xp will be awarded (split among the party) for every 1 gp recovered safely to Home Base City.

The party may split 15 XP (the non-even can go in any way the party chooses), and in any way they feel is fair the [roll0] coppers found.

Now where will you go?
(Also, you may now add this room to your map)

crazedloon
2009-12-10, 08:39 PM
Shim Sham

Well that was easier than I would have thought. This dungeon aint so tough.

Shin skips up and picks up the 20 copper stashing it in his bag and flipping one of the coins mindlessly as he begins to examine the eastern door for any traps or locks.

crazedloon

yep east door

Thelas
2009-12-11, 10:51 AM
As you enter the East door, in a 30 ft by 30 ft room with no other visible exits a puzzle lies, waiting for you.

OOC (players read)

Pretty much all puzzles are optional, but there will be loot.

There are six pictures along the east wall, with coloured frames. From north to south:
- In a red frame, an image of a giant bird, somewhat like an ostrich with a short neck and four legs.
- In a green frame, an image of a humanoid amphibious creature with a reddish-brown exoskeleton and pincers in place of hands.
- In a blue frame, some sort of monstrous creature with the upper body of a woman and the lower half of an animal of some sort.
- In a yellow frame, an elf pulling back a bow and wearing ring mail.
- In an orange frame, something that looks like a translucent section of wall.
- In a purple frame, an extremely tall, ugly humanoid, with a single eye centred under its slightly drooping brow.
On the west wall, there are five grey blocks, made of some sort of stone, though they appear somewhat light.
Each has letters inscribed and/or embossed upon it; from North to South:
- This block has the letter Y inscribed and E, I and S embossed upon it.
- This block has a letter A inscribed and an E embossed upon it.
- This block is blank
- This block has a letter I embossed upon it.
- This block has a letter E embossed upon it.

On the south wall, there are six buttons: red, green, blue, yellow, orange, and purple, arranged in a hexagon.

The north wall is completely blank.

What will you do?

Shim motions for the others to stop huddling around the dead and to follow him into the room. He leaves the door well open and trots over to the boxes inspecting them before picking up the block with the E embossed in it and attempts to insert the E into the E on the block with the E inscribed

Thelas
2009-12-11, 11:11 AM
Because the letters are not in the center, but rather in a line about 3/4ths of the way from the bottom, I don't believe you can get the blocks to fit together like that.

If you can do it, draw me a picture and I'll allow it.

EDIT: Also, I don't believe I listed any inscribed Es...

Goblinsplitter
2009-12-11, 09:20 PM

((OOC: The next mistake will be 2d6.))

psh you don't need to tell us that :smalltongue:

So the dwarf aint the smart one. Leave the puzzles to the experts and go back to hitting things

Shim puts the blocks down after failing to get them put together.

"Hmm ok we have pictures with colored boarders."

Shim points at the paintings walking down the line.

"We have buttons with the same colors."

And we have blocks with letters on them.

Hmm Shim scratches his chin and rocks back and forth as he thinks.

"We have less blocks than buttons and pictures but I think that picture" He points at the empty picture "May be a door of some kind."

Ok ok I think I got it! You orc boy push the yellow button with this block he points to the block embossed with an E only

Thelas
2009-12-12, 03:12 PM
If he wants to, I'll need either three consecutive successful minor tests of Strength (which I believe for him are 1-4), or one successful exceptional test of strength (which I believe for him is a 1). Note that rolling a 6 on these may do bad things.

No traps are found, either by rolling or by them firing on your head.

However, in a 10 by 10 ft room are two goblins.

Surprise Check! 1-2 players are surprised for that many segments, 3-6 players unsurprised.

Surprise check for monsters, someone?

Goblin Two: hp [roll3], AC 6, THAC0 20 tohit [roll4], dmg [roll5].
