I have never, in my ~6 years of playing D&D, had a multiclass character.

I know, it's shocking.:smalleek::smallwink::smalleek:

I wanted to try one for the first time. I love stealth builds, my very first character was a rogue. I was thinking about a stealth build with good versatility, maybe rouge/wizard, or maybe scout/something. Anyone got any good ideas?

Oh yeah, books are core+completes, the level would be 12.

Edit: I spelled it right the first time!!!

Rogue goes well with wizard and swashbuckler.

Rogue1/Wizard4 gives a nice start, from which you can go onto things such as Arcane Trickster and Unseen Seer.

Just throwing this out there: a duskblade/warblade is one of the funnest melee builds you'll ever play.

Unseen seer (CMage) is an exelent prg class for multiclass rogues/wizards

Rogue/Wizard isn't a great place to start. Barbarian/Fighter is probably the most obvious multiclass ever, but if you're going for a stealth build that doesn't help you as much.

At level 12, I'd be tempted to do Factotum 8 / Swordsage 4. You'll need Human for multiclass penalties, but that works anyway. You'll get amazing flexibility thanks to Factotum, strong combat skills thanks to Swordsage, and enough MAD that you're unlikely to be too overpowered. You'll want combat stats, high Int (which adds to Initiative and Trip and a bunch of skills, thanks to Brains Over Brawn), and you'll want at least moderate Wis that you can boost with an item, for a free AC bonus. Shadow Hand works great for stealth, and Brains Over Brawn works wonders with Setting Sun.

In other news, to quote wikipedia (and to repost something I've written on these forums before) - Rouge, also called blush, is a cosmetic typically used by women to redden the cheeks so as to provide a more youthful appearance, and to emphasise the cheekbones. Rogue, also called skillmonkey, is a D&D class that specializes in trapfinding and stabbing people in the spleen so as to kill them lots. Please don't get them confused. It causes me physical pain.

With the sources that you listed (which don't include Factotum or some of the other suggestions people have made! :smalltongue:), I second this recommendation. Rogue/Wizard/Unseen Seer.

Or Rogue/Wu Jen/Unseen Seer if you really want to try out a base class from the Completes.

Have you considered a physician? Sounds like you have a problem.

Always have the rogue 3/wizard 5/arcane trickster 4. Not sure how many ways to get into the class besides this, I'd think human with able learner could do rogue 1/ wizard 5/ assassin 1/ into arcane trickster, with the skill point requirements for the two prestige classes.

Hey now, if his wizard wants to wear rouge, I don't see why we should stop him.

I think the biggest problem you'll encounter as a Rogue/Wizard is that you aren't very wizardly, and your skills won't be as impressive as a full rogue. You'll want more utility spells, like Spider Climb or Web, over trying to knock something out through magical might.

You'll probably want a good prestige class to mix the two. Unseen Seer, as others have mentioned, is a pretty good one. Arcane Trickster can work too, I suppose, although I've heard better stuff about the Unseen Seer.

A wizard that wears makeup? casts spells related to makeup? (the only ones that come to mind are Prestidigitation and Change Self)...

I, for one, have been contemplating this.

My first character ended up Multiclassing out of wanting new abilities. I rolled an elf rogue in 3.0 and at level 4 that class didn't get anything new so I decided to multiclass right then and there. Thankfully when we leveled we had just finished an arc and had plenty of down time. I learned to be a wizard. Then the book with Arcane Trickster came out. From the beginning my character was a bow specialist and so the logical thing to do seemed to be to further multiclass into arcane archer. After the 6 year campaign ended the character ended up being Rogue3/Wizard5/ArcaneTrickster10/Arcane Archer4

I am very happy with the way that character ended.
