Trying to create a BBEG that spends a lot of time altering the memories of the people around him to make himself look like a hero. If anyone knows of any non-core spells like this, besides Mind-Rape and Sanctify the Wicked, I'd appreciate the help. Spells of any level are useful, durations longer than 24 hours doubly so.

Problem solved in record time, so how about helping me suggest the second half of a Wu-Jen Gestalt?

Thanks in advance.

Modify Memory from Complete Arcane. I think it is a 9th level wizard spell and has permanent duration.

Programmed amnesia from the spell compendium comes to mind.

That's programmed amnesia. This (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/modifyMemory.htm) is modify memory. There's also a psionic version (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/modifyMemoryPsionic.htm).

Core has Modify Memory (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/modifyMemory.htm) but it's a Bard only spell. The only other such spells I know of off the top of my head are Mindrape and Programmed Amnesia.

Hmm. I'd like memory creation as well, I think.

But Programmed Amnesia is useful...

Perhaps I should just use Mind-Rape.

Have you thought about Psionics? Sounds like a perfect job for a Telepath. Psionic Modify Memory (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/modifyMemoryPsionic.htm) comes to mind immediately.

This is, of course, also accessible through Miracle and Limited Wish in case the caster in question is not a Bard.

I will confess that I know very little about Psionics or their powers. Though I allow them, I've never had a player ask to use them.

I will have to look into this.

Programmed Amnesia can do that too IIRC. It's essentially Mindrape without the [evil] descriptor, a longer casting time, and no automatic complete interrogation.

Programmed Amnesia allows for memory creation. The writers are just terrible at thinking of names.

EDIT: Bah.

Programmed Amnesia can do that too IIRC. It's essentially Mindrape without the [evil] descriptor, a longer casting time, and no automatic complete interrogation.

It also has a duration of Permanent instead of Instantaneous, but with the specific statement that it cannot be dispelled, and a 500 gp material component.

Ah. I see.

In that case, Programmed Amnesia might be what I need. Though psionics are cool, my players are so disused to them that it may cause a problem [I do not use a psionic/magic transparency.]

...So, with that problem resolved, while you're here, any advice on what to throw in a Gestalt with a Wu-Jen?

Factotum from Dungeonscape or Warblade from Tome of Battle.

Factotum from Dungeonscape or Warblade from Tome of Battle.

Warblade IS currently the lead choice...

If it's for the same character then Psion

Psion wouldn't kill you any way. 2 full casters is better than 1.

Also you could specialize a wizard and make up the other schools with Wu Jen spells

Nah, this one is for a player in another game. XD

Thanks though.

Either that or Crusader. Because if there's anything better than a Crusader, it's five Crusaders. Or a 70 foot tall Crusader.

Therefore, the logical conclusion of this is five 70 foot tall Crusaders, with five more standing on their shoulders.
