what if there were a class which only had one level to it, and this class was powerful enough to turn the underdog of the party into a positive action man?

The way I see it, this one-level-dip is by dm's approval only and only if your character is struggling compared to the rest of the party. Oh, and it doesn't count towards your total character level and multiclass rules don't apply.

Anyone fancy helping? I think maybe it could include a boost to BAB and some magic skills but that's up to more competant dnd players.
So yeah, that's all I have to say for now.

Easy.
Give it: All Good saves, Full BAB, a bonus feat and a +1 level of existing spell casting class. No matter what class you grab it out of it makes you better in a generic way.

You could also create a template in this vein too. Specify that it can only be taken by DM fiat in the rules on it.

Something like that (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118689) has already been 'brewed up.

How about Shyftir's suggestion, but replace spellcasting with any class features? And add 8 + int skill points per level. That would be a good hybrid of his simple idea and the link.

This pretty much takes care of everything you could want in such a "class", along with some interesting mechanics & bonus feats. Anything else would just be reinventing the wheel.
