The town of Rosedale was eerily quite now. Many had died in the past few weeks, and those who remained either lived in fear of the mysterious killer (they had taken to calling him "Kira," a name someone had dredged out of an old comic book), or praised him silently in their hearts, trying to avoid the attention of the lynch mob.
Then a strange individual named Orzel came into the town. Most of the townsfolk were shocked at the news he brought: that the world-famous investigator, L, was already among them, and determined to bring Kira to justice.
Some decided to use their talents to assist L in hunting down Kira. Others, fearing for Kira's safety, sought out the creature Murza, a god of death and the one who gave Kira his powers, and pledged their allegiance to Kira.
Others just prayed to get through the next few days alive.
