...because Xykon probably knows where it really is. Odds are that Girard told Serini the real location and she recorded it in her diary. Even if Girard lied to her, Sense Motive is on the Rogue Class Skill List. She would have known he was lying and could have used other Rogue skills to learn the location. Looks like the headstart the heroes have on Xykon and Redcloak may be about to evaporate (if it hasn't already).

True.

On the other hand however, if Serini did record the incorrect location, that could be very good news for the OotS. The Order now knows the location is wrong, and can move on to attempting to find the real location.

Xykon, on the other hand...once he locates his phylactery, they will teleport there and begin searching in the wrong place, and Xykon's stubbornness will make him force Team Evil to keep searching until they find it, which they won't.

In fact, if V puts that good ol' 18 intelligence to use, s/he will probably think to dispel Girard's message before they leave, preventing Xykon from even locating that (which could tip him off otherwise).

Or Serini asked Soon for the coordinates, or Soon got the coordinates from Serini and both teams are equally wrong in which case both would be stucked. And for the prophecy, Xykon may walk right through the gate in the way to Kraggor, fulfilling the prophecy without necesary knowing the gate was there.

That seems more like Xykon:smalltongue:

He will just find more hogoblins and another assistant, since Xykon himself can't die

Yeah, I meant to exlude Xykon, himself.

SoD spoiler:
Neither can Redcloak, at least not from old age. The Crimson Mantle stops him aging.

That just leaves MitD needing a replacement, IF he can actually age.
If Xykon didn't find the Gate there, wouldn't he just go to Kraggor's?

I thought it just SLOWED the aging process?

But it doesn't protect him from a hostile desert environment and its denizens, or Xykon's boredom and frustration.

We know from the Oracle that Xykon makes it near Girard's Gate at some point, even if Serini gave him the wrong coordinates.

And Xykon has a short attention span. If they can't find it in relatively short order, they're off to Kraggor's. So we can deduce that the coordinates Xykon has are good enough to get him near Girard's gate before he gets bored.

And Xykon has a short attention span.

Minor SoD spoiler

How short can it be? He spent, what, 25 years tracking down Dorukan's gate from Serini's diary? And then he went and caught up with Right-Eye who had run out on him, and Redcloak as well?

Come to think of it... HOW long has he been on this take-over-the-world bit? More than 25 years, and with precious little advancement in that time.

And how long WAS he willing to sit on his butt in Azure City on the off-chance that Redcloak (who was obviously playing him - did Xykon know? Hard to say, but let's not confuse not caring with not knowing here) might actually come up with something useful while playing around with the catch of the day?

He gets bored, sure, but I think his attention span is just fine when he wants it to be.

No, it won't work that way. Kraagor's gate is on the Eastern Continent at or near the North Pole, while Girards Gate is on the Western Continent. Redcloak and Xykon talked about this before they decided to take Azure City. They either had to build a ship from hobgoblin skins (something Redcload was opposed to) or fight their way through eight nations, which was far too time consuming for Xykon's taste.

Now that the Azure City Gate is destroyed, Xykon and Redcloak will want the next closest, and in working order, gate.
SoD Spoiler
If a Rift was all that was needed, they would never have had to leave Lirian's Forest.

He was the group cartographer, and possibly a wizard (specialist at least). He could have made all the maps wrong and simply kept the location safe inside his head. Serini could have known he lied but given the possibilities, there's actually very little she could do about it.
