If you need, say, 10 ranks in a skill to enter a class, can you enter it the same level as you gain your 10th rank, or do you need the rank first?

Basically, for shadowdancer. I have a lvl 5 rogue taking his 6th level. He will be gaining his 10th rank in Hide this level. But am I a 5 rogue/1 SD or must I go 6 rogue before I get my 1st SD?

You don't gain skill points until you've already chosen your class, otherwise you wouldn't know how many you get or what you can spend them on.

Yup, and actually you need 7 rogue levels before you can go Shadowdancer, it requires 10 ranks in hide.

It would have to be a sixth level rogue. You can only have class level + 3 skill points in a class skill.

But, no, I don't believe so, due to the way the process works. The first thing you do is pick your class level.

I would allow it, though.

You're right about the needing 7 levels, I always think of max ranks as (lvl+4) because you start with max ranks 4. I throw myself off with that.

But damn, I need to actually HAVE the reqs before entry, even though I'm gaining it by entering?

Sucks.

What about feats? Say I plan on taking the last req'd feat on the same level I want to enter. Is that possible?

Nope, class is chosen first at level up, everything else is after that. In order to pick Shadowdancer, you need to have ALL the prereqs when you want to pick it.

Edit: And a link to prove it. (http://http://www.d20srd.org/srd/prestigeClasses/prestigeClasses.htm)

Well, that clears that up very straightforwardly. Thanks.
