Seeing how this decade is coming to a close I wonder, what albums would you all say have been your favorites? For me it's these in no particular order

The Roots *Game Theory*
Gnarls Barkley *St.Elsewhere*
Mos Def *New Danger*
Ghostface Killah *Supreme Clientile*
Kanye West *808 & Heartbrea*
Kanye West *Late Registration*
N*E*R*D *Seeing Sounds*
Gorrillaz *Demon Days*
Sage Francis *Personal Journals*
Atmosphere *When Life Gives You Lemons...*

This was a pretty good year for Rap and R&B. Honorable Mention goes out to Mastodon *Crack the Skye*, Lupe Fiasco *The Cool*, Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek *Reflection Eternal*, Jay-Z *The Blue Print*, and J Dilla *Donuts* (RIP).

Gnarls Barkley *St.Elsewhere*

I bought this because Adult Swim bumped it about 5 or 6 years back. I have never bought anything bumped by Adult Swim since.

My nominations for best album would have to include:
Metallica *Death Magnetic*
The Offspring *Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace*
CAKE *Comfort Eagle*

Other than that... The album "Sci-fi Crimes" by Chevelle was decent.

Not too much good music this decade, but the new stuff gives me hope for the next one.

[AS] usually represents some damn good Hip-Hop. Wish J Dilla had been around longer to work with them more.

A Night at the Opera ~ Blind Guardian

I got this purely by accident. I ordered something else, and got this, and the vendor never responded to my emails. I got my money back, but they've still not asked for it back. Odd.

But yes, it is quite good.

Picaresque, by the Decemberists was quite good as well.

Sidenote, Sneak, I love your choice of music.

I'm going to have to say:
Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace - Foo Fighters
Far - Regina Spektor
The Ugly Organ - Cursive

These are just some fantastic albums I've heard. They are compiled beautifully.

Mothership - Led Zeppelin ( If we count greatest hits albums )
Best of Bowie - David Bowie
...

I don't really listen to much music from this decade, the mainstream is filled with to much Rap.

Well, you could always just listen to modern music that isn't rap

This past decade produced some very good music though. Sigh -- "Imaginary Sonicscape" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4bVbmR2O1Y) is in my top 5 for this decade, though I haven't decided on the others yet.

A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms (2000)
Lacuna Coil - Unleashed Memories (2001)
Tool - Lateralus (2001)
Lacuna Coil - Comalies (2002)
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step (2003)
A Perfect Circle - Emotive (2004)
Universal Hall Pass - Mercury (2004)
10 Years - The Autumn Effect (2005)
Universal Hall Pass - Subtle Things (2006)
Vayden - Children of Our Mistakes (2006)
Tool - 10,000 Days (2006)
Emerson Hart - Cigarettes and Gasoline (2007)
10 Years - Division (2008)

Been kind of a dry spell for me recently; hard to find modern music I actually like. Of course, I hate rap and can't stand modern pop/R&B...which has all basically become annoyingly repeatative club music designed to worm its way into your brain and repeat ad nauseum anyway. :smallannoyed: If I hear one more whiny chick singing 80% of her song in falsetto...or in a robotic voice. :smallfurious:

I've been trying to branch out, but most bands/tracks sound identical to me these days. A couple bands/albums I'm planning on checking out and feel hopeful about: 32 Leaves (Welcome to the Fall) and Hurt (Vol. I & II).

There are a couple clunkers on "The Blueprint" but a lot of people will call it the best album of the decade. If it had been half as long, it could've been the greatest rap album *of all time.*

Anyway, most albums these days aren't listenable all the way through... I'm not sure I could pick any albums out over the rest.

This got me thinking tho.

I'm finding it so hard to make a top list of the decade. Should I do what I like to listen to the most? What I think is the most influential? Has the most talent and is a "better" album? It's pretty difficult.

So I have no real list. All I know is that "The Destruction of Small Ideas" by 65daysofstatic is going to be on there.

Seriously?

No Opeth?

Am I the only person who still likes Opeth?

Opeth ~ Blackwater Park
Opeth ~ Watershed

There's the best two albums of the decade, right there in your face beating you with a hammer.

Other good ones include

Mastodon ~ Leviathan
Mastodon ~ Crack the Skye
Bolt Thrower ~ Those Once Loyal
Lamb of God ~ As The Palaces Burn
Warbringer ~ War Without End
Megadeth ~ Endgame
Alestorm ~ Captain Morgan's Revenge
Black Majesty ~ Tomorrowland
Krallice ~ Krallice
Nile ~ Annihilation of the Wicked
Nile ~ Ithyphallic
Bal Sagoth ~ Atlantis Ascendant
Bal Sagoth ~ The Cthonic Chronicles
Mayhem ~ Ordo Ad Chao
Iron Maiden ~ Dance of Death
Obscura ~ Cosmogenesis
Cannibal Corpse ~ Kill
Cannibal Corpse ~ Evisceration Plague
Cannibal Corpse ~ The Wretched Spawn
Wintersun ~ Wintersun

You know, if I keep this up then I won't stop. There's no point in me continually spouting albums, just accept that I brought the Opeth here :smallcool:

From Dream Theater, I liked "Octavarium", "Black Clouds and Silver Linings", and their "Score" live album.

From Nightwish, "Century Child", "Once", and "Dark Passion Play"

Between the Buried and Me's album "Colors".

Lacuna Coil's "Unleashed Memories", "Comalies", and "Karmacode". Not so much "Shallow Life", but it has its moments.

Hardline's "Leaving the End Open" is a wonderful release from this year, a much better album then their last one.

Journey's "Revelation". Two disc, three discs if you got the special edition DVD, new singer who easily rivals Steve Perry, and all your Journey favourites plus a whole bunch of new songs? Best Melodic Rock release this year, hands down.

I suppose I have to include Jonathon Coulton's "Best. Concert. Ever." album. It really is his best concert ever.

I suppose I can include the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog soundtrack. :smallcool:

Rush's "Snakes and Arrows" album is the return album Vapor Trails should have been.

Those are my favorite albums of this decade.
