View Full Version : Your very own Order of the Stick

Someone let me know if a thread like this already exists (or if this thread should go somewhere else).

I'm calling for everyone to make their own versions of Order of the Stick. Basically, put together your own ideal 6-man party. The rules are:

D&D 3.5 rules.
Core Races only (in keeping with what we've seen in OotS, includes monstrous races)
All characters level 13 (as this is my buest guess as to where the OotS is at)

Simply put down race, gender, class levels. Also a line on what you see the character doing, and the feats they take, in order.

I'll put my own up in a little bit.

Note: Character sheets are not all for level 13, but you can get a good idea of what they are like.

Indeed I can. Good show.
My characters are mostly "fun things I'd like to try ina game", and named after their fictional/RL inspirations. Jar of cookies to anyone who gets them all. Here goes:

The leader, Hiruma Yoiichi, fast-thinking wise-cracking level 13 Male Half-Elf Cleric of Olidammara. Domains: Luck and Trickery. Like any true worshipper of the god of thieves, he prefers to bluff and cheat his way around obstacles, but blasting with divine power is always an option.

The party meat-shield, Bill Door, former peasant turned level 13 male human fighter. Feats: Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Focus (scythe), Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, Spring Attack, Whirwind Attack, Elusive Target, Close-quarters fighting, Power Attack, Greater Focus (scythe), Bounding Assault. For a big guy, he is surprisingly light on his feet.

The party's in-your-face slasher-blaster, he doesn't understand the meaning of 'overkill'. He's tough, he's smart, he's experienced, he's the go-to-guy for assaulting the breach or covering a retreat. He's Cloud Strife, level 13 Wood Elf Duskblade, and if his greatsword isn't enough, try it with a full Power Attack backed up by a Leaping Attack, Quick cast true strike, and Vampiric Touch.

The voice of sanity in this misfit bunch (when she's paying attention), the book-loving Evelyn Carnahan, human female Archivist 3/Wizard 3/ Theurge 7. She's a sweetheart, just don't touch her books.

The other human female in the group, Jamethiel, Swashbuckler 3/Bard 4/Dervish 6. She steals hearts with her stunning moves, or carves them out with her blades. Or both at the same time.

Party tracker, hunter, trap-finder, point man, and sharpshooter, he loves nothing more than a forest full of enemies and a quiver of bolts for his crossbow. Simo Hayha, human male Scout 9/Dread Commando 4.
Feats: Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Focus (Light Crossbow), Track, Crossbow Sniper, Point Blank Shot, Elusive Target, Shot on the Run.

Karmand, son of Heremor made a name for himself as a mercenary before he turned to adventuring, and is the party leader. He comes from a particularly ruthless people who inhabit the islands off the coast of the mainland. They're known primarily as slavers, mercenaries, and craftsmen of fine weapons. As a boy Karmand saw his father killed defending their village from a silver dragon, and has sought to avenge him since. He is a Draconic Human Hexblade 3/ Sorcerer 2/ Talon of Tiamat 7/ Spellsword 1 (LA buyoff), with Power Attack, Combat Reflexes, Dragonthral, Practiced Spellcaster, Maximize Breath, and Clinging Breath. His primary skills are Bluff, Intimidate, and Sense Motive. He uses spells to augment his melee capabilities, favoring Power Attack with Wraithstrike which he casts with a Lesser Rod of Extend, and uses maximized clinging breath attacks to dispatch grouped opponents. He is never without Wyrmfang, his +1 Spell Storing Glaive, which he always keeps a (Lesser Rod of) Maximized Vampiric Touch in. He rules his band of thugs with an iron fist, and has gained them a reputation of being extremely reliable and loyal to their commitments.

Vyurau of the Dreambinders is Karmand's cunning second in command, and his primary adviser and strategist. This Illumian Beguiler 1/ Conjurer 4/ Ultimate Magus 8 focuses on disabling their opponents in combat, and single-handedly solving every noncombat challenge they face. He isn't particularly good at fighting, and has even been called a coward at times, as he has no reservations about withdrawing from a situation that he is ill-suited to handle (Vulnerable and Noncombatant flaws). His feats are Able Learner, Versatile Spellcaster, Practiced Spellcaster: Beguiler, Extend Spell, Improved Initiative, Split Ray, Craft Rod, and Chain Spell, and through his specialty in Conjuration he learned Abrupt Jaunt in lieu of learning how to summon a familiar.

Thelgrun and Grunthel are a Dvati who originally set out to find and retake an ancient temple of their people, but since then they're beginning to doubt that it even exists. This Dvati Crusader 13 (LA buyoff) focuses on Devoted Spirit and White Raven maneuvers and stances. They will only fight up close because they have very poor vision and judgment of distance (Murky-Eyed and Shaky flaws). His feats are Extra Granted Maneuver, Stone Power, Shield Specialization, Shield Ward, Combat Focus, Combat Stability, and Combat Vigor. They take turns full attacking and initiating strikes from their shared pool, with one using Stone Power each round. They usually try to get between the opponents and the rest of the party, as they are extremely durable and will typically heal each other throughout the fight.

Clik Stillan has spent his life practicing a technique known as 'steady mind, steady hand' though his tongue does not follow this policy. He is always quick to speak and his mouth gets him into trouble on a daily basis, which gives him an excuse to impale an attacker with a thought before they can even reach him. The Human Swordsage 3/ Soulknife 2/ Soulbow 8 uses both hands to rain mind arrows upon everything he can. His feats are Point Blank Shot, Two-Weapon Fighting, Up the Walls, Zen Archery, Speed of Thought, Precise Shot, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Rapid Shot, Improved Rapid Shot, and Woodland Archer.

Sidwin the Chosen One is a devout worshiper of Zarus. He is willing to work with lesser races to defeat a common enemy, and is constantly reminding them just how inferior they are. In place of gratitude, he offers promises of mercy when humankind enslaves all of their kind. As a Human Cleric of Zarus 6/ Divine Oracle 4/ Contemplative 3 he has been tasked with preparing the world for the inevitable holy war by taking certain pieces out of play and arranging others as needed, or so he says. His domains are War, Strength, Oracle, and Law, and his feats are Extend Spell, Persistent Spell, Divine Metamagic: Persistent, Power Attack, Extra Turning, and Quicken Spell. He took a pilgrimage to the Frog God's Fane to gain Skill Focus for Divine Oracle. He has worked with Vyurau to create many magic items, including several Night Sticks for himself.

Hinturstil was birthed from the ashes of a dead forest, and is only comfortable in the aftermath of nature's destructive forces. Shortly after reaching maturity he discovered a juvenile dinosaur and, delighting in its predatory nature, named it Killjoy and adopted it as his companion. The Killoren Druid 13 understands and is able to use all aspects of nature, even though he favors its ability to destroy. His feats are Companion Spellbond, Natural Bond, Natural Spell, Killoren Hunter, and Combat Reflexes.

Hmmm.

A duo of Elven Skillmonkeys could be a fun start.

Gray Elf Factotum 7/Warblade 6 - a swashbuckler type with a hint of gish.
Feats: Combat Expertise, Weapon Finesse, Knowledge Devotion, Improved Feint, Improved Critical, Combat Reflexes

Wood Elf Scout 4/Mystic Ranger 9
Feats: Point Blank Shot, Track, Precise Shot, Swift Hunter, Wild Cohort, Rapid Shot, Endurance, Darkstalker, Manyshot, Greater Manyshot

Then, for my real tank I have to go with my Master of Nine build:

Human Unarmed Swordsage 2/Warblade 7/Fighter 1/Master of Nine 3
Feats: Improved Unarmed Strike, Desert Wind Dodge, Improved Initiative, Exotic Weapon Proficiency, Martial Study, Blind-Fight, Adaptive Style, Martial Stance, Snap Kick

For a healer, I don't love Cleric or Druid and don't want to come up with an Ardent build right now, so I'll go with

Human Psion (egoist) 11/Chameleon 2
Feats: Able Learner, Overchannel, Talented, Psicrystal Affinity, Psionic Meditation, Shape Soulmeld, Psycarnum Infusion, Midnight Augmentation, Expanded Knowledge, "floating" feat

A very simple but effective arcanist:

Gnome Dragonfire Adept 13
Feats: Dragontouched, Ability Focus, Entangling Exhalation, Extra Invocation, Draconic Aura (senses), Flyby Attack

And one more, the "wild card" that could be any role (since I have all the major roles covered). Hmm, maybe I will make an Ardent after all (but leave the Psion as the party healer), since this party lacks Traveling mojo and Wisdom:

Human Ardent 5/Elocator 7/Pyrokineticist 1
Feats: Expeditious Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Elusive Target, Linked Power, Psionic Meditation, Sidestep Charge

Yeah, at the moment that sounds like a pretty fun party to play in. And it's actually got a LOT of parallels to the OotS.

This is assuming no Unearthed Arcana allowed. If LA Buyoff is allowed, the Gray Elf might morph to a Tiefling, and other characters might consider taking a "level" in various acquired templates: Dark for almost anyone, Half-Fey for the Gnome. Of course if UA is allowed, then two Flaws per character is also very tempting optimization-wise ...

Also, I updated my party with some race changes that make it a touch more optimal.

SurlySeraph

Let's see...

The party leader is Justiciar Gerant, middle-aged, nigh-indestructible, and extraordinarily surly Human Paladin 5/Gray Guard 5/Pious Templar 3. Feats: True Believer, Weapon Focus (battleaxe), Combat Focus, Combat Stability, Combat Vigor, Healing Devotion. He will stand between you and any foe, heal any injuries that you still manage to take in your incompetence, and make you confident in victory even in the depths of despair. And all it will cost you is having to listen to his angry lectures about how inept and corrupt you and all the other damn kids these days are.
And yes, "Justiciar" is his real name. Not much you can do except become a paladin with a name like that.

The primary damage-dealer is Mithriel Ilsandwen, CG Wood Elf Warblade 10/ Eternal Blade 3. Her solution to the eternal debate over whether it's better to attack with precision or power is "Both, duh." And she does so very effectively. Considerably more intelligent than the average wood elf, she also has a distinct lack of common sense and patience. Granted, common sense and patience tend to seem somewhat less important when you're being stabbed in the eye with a greatsword. Feats: Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, Knowledge Devotion, Leap Attack, Shock Trooper, Improved Initiative (Warblade bonus), Blade Meditation (Iron Heart) (Warblade Bonus)

The skirmisher is Silas Augustine, LE Human Monk 1/ Wizard 4/ Enlightened Fist 8. Feats: Combat Casting, Carmendine Monk, Fell Drain, Snap Kick, Arcane Disciple (War), Metamagic School Focus (Necromancy). Is he a good fighter? No. Is he a good wizard? No. Can he turn invisible, punch 5 people in the face with fists made out of magic death, run away, and incinerate them all while they're trying to figure out what just happened? Yes. Despite Silas's alignment, Justiciar insists he remain with the party until he is either dead or redeemed. Given the glee Silas takes in electrocuting people with his bare hands, particularly after they have surrendered, the former seems a lot more likely.

The outdoorsman/undergroundsman/sneak attacker/lock-and-trap-remover is Grosht Caveguard, LN Duergar Rogue 5/ Ranger 2/ Dark Hunter 5. Grosht claims that he formerly worked as an assassin for his city against the drow, and was banished for showing excessive moral scruples. Given how much time he spends sinking pickaxes into the back of people's heads the "former" part seems like a bit of a pretense. Grosht seems to come up with a solution to every problem the party is faced with; but since his solutions generally call for drinking, disassembling and carrying off every mechanical device he can lay his hands on, stabbing people in the back of the head, or if possible all of the above, they are not necessarily optimal. Grosht enjoys and frequently joins in Justiciar's rants about the laziness and weakness of everyone around him. Feats: Magic in the Blood, Blind-Fight, TWF (Ranger bonus), Hamstring, ITWF, Staggering Strike.

The actually-competent arcanist and party face is Grace Celi, NG Lesser Aasimar Sorcerer 10/ Sacred Exorcist 3. Feats: Extend Spell, Persistent Spell, Chain Spell, Arcane Disciple (Healing), Divine Metamagic. Grace is eternally patient, a friend to all living creatures, preternaturally hopeful and kind, and has taken to drinking since Silas and Grosht joined the party.

The primary divine caster is Tathar Turanion, LN Grey Elf Archivist 13. Feats: Draconic Archivist, Spell Focus (Conjuration), Augment Conjuration, Metamagic School Focus (Conjuration), Repeat Spell. Tathar's philosophy is that every problem has its proper solution, and that celestial bears are the proper solution for about three-quarters of all problems. His range of knowledge is wide and deep, and he will gladly explain the historical significance, culture, life cycle, and most horrifying traits of whatever the party is facing. This includes aberrations, constructs, dragons, elementals, magical beasts, outsiders, undead, traps, swamps, unattractive architecture, poorly made food, disease, and anyone with a family name he knows. Tathar frequently tries to one-up Mithriel's knowledge, with mixed success; he may know an illithid's weak points in theory, but he cannot use a watermelon and five pieces of string to illustrate the exact angle at which to insert a sword into its face.

Anyone who thinks of making Simo Hayha into a DnD character is awesome. No exceptions.

Foryn Gilnith

Aelan: CG Human Marshal 9/Dragon Lord 1/Dragon Shaman 3

Udurchon: LG Dwarf Cleric 4/Sovereign Speaker 9.

Eheleigh: CN Human Factotum 2/Marshal 1/Barbarian 1/Totemist 1/Factotum 2/Umbral Disciple 3/Conjurer 1/Exemplar 1/Factotum 1.

Church-Bell the Karrn: CN Cleric 5/Bone Knight 8.

Vuursovian: NG Drow Incarnate 2/Crusader 10/Eternal Blade 1. LA either bought off or avoided with the Lesser Drow variant. Raised by dwarves, signs her diary as Sandwich.

Ray: LN Human Fighter 13

I purposely avoided fluff. Was writing some then realized it would be too much hassle. Read into these as you will.

Can we do psionics?

Psychic Warrior, strongman in the party. Or perhaps strongwoman; those are hot.

Lurk/Psion Uncarnate, for stealth and can walk through walls.

Psion, probably Seer, although Telepath may be more appropriate for in a group of "psychics".

Ardent, with the Creation, Destruction, and Light/Darkness mantles. The whole cycle of life philosopher.

Wilder, for blastiness and TK fun.

I'm not sure about the sixth slot. Probably just a generalist combatant, someone who is good with various weapons and a number of skills. Force everyone to wonder just what the class combination is supposed to be. :smalltongue:

I had an idea for an all warforged group. Warblade for the tank, Sorc/War-Weaver for the healbot/buffbot/battlefield control, Rogue/Spellthief/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster for the Skillmonkey/Utility, Warlock/Binder/Hellfire Warlock for striker/ranged DPS, Rogue/Swordsage for Striker/backup meatshield, and Wizard/Incantatrix... because every party needs one.

Note: This is NOT a super-optimized party...at least, not mostly. It's just a group of cool dudes and some classes that aren't super powerful, but fun to play.

Androlg Strongheart, Half-Orc Whirling Frenzy Barbarian 3/ Strongarm Ranger 3/Horizon Walker 7, "the Leader"
Also known as Androlg the Strong and Androlg the Wanderer, despite his decidely poor social skills and lack of education, Androlg is the party's leader. He is a canny woodsman, deadly with a falchion, and a quick on his feet archer. Androlg adventures to keep the wilderness clear of deadly beasts and the people of his homeland free of tyranny.
Feats: Improved Initiative, Quick Draw, Combat Reflexes, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot
Ranger Bonus Feats: Track, Power Attack, Endurance
Favored Skills: Knowledge (geography), Knowledge (nature), Listen, Spot, Survival

Castivin Cardannos, High Elf Bard 9/Duelist 4, "the Face"
A dashing and romantic swashbuckling gentleman adventure, Castivin began his career as a simple wandering musician, poet, and story-teller, moving from tavern to tavern. He met Androlg, a fellow wanderer, and the two set out to rescue a mayor's daughter from some goblins. Now, Castivin is an experienced adventurer, deadly with his whirling rapier, poking holes in his enemies faster than they can react while singing in their faces.
Feats: Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Finesse, Combat Expertise, Improved Disarm
Favored Skills: Climb, Escape Artist, Jump, Perform (sing), Perform (dance), Tumble, Use Rope

John the Pious, Human Cleric of Pelor 13, "the Healer"
When he was but a boy, John devoted his life to worshiping Pelor. He got up every morning at the crack of dawn to watch the sun rise, study in his father's library, and practice with his morningstar [Pelor's obvious favored weapon in this campaign world]. When his farm was burned down by marauding goblins with a secret master, he packed his things and set out to travel with Androlg and Castivin, meeting a host of other interesting characters on the way. Now, he is well on his way to becoming a High Priest of the Sun God.
Feats: Augment Healing, Sacred Healing, Combat Casting, Sacred Vow, Vow of Chastity, Empower Spell
Domains: Healing, Strength
Favored Skills: Concentration, Knowledge (religion), Knowledge (the planes), Spellcraft

Raisith Cusaid, Grey Elf Diviner 5/Loremaster 6/Fatespinner 2, "the Planner"
The quintessential power-hungry arcanist, Raisith is an incredibly knowledgeable, profoundly scary wizard. He delves into the most obscure mysteries of the arcane, studying ancient and forbidden lore to further his own personal power. He toys with the strands of fate, practices dark magic, and studies his party-mates during battle as if they were experiments. He hates Morkoloth, the party's main adversary, as the dark wizard is an even more powerful arcanist than Raisith, and he would do anything to get a hold of the necromancer's vast collection of spells.
Feats: Skill Focus (knowledge [history]), Brew Potion, Create Wondrous Item, Arcane Thesis (Enervation)
Wizard Bonus Feats: Scribe Scroll, Extend Spell
Favored Skills: Concentration, Decipher Script, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (history), Knowledge (the planes), Spellcraft

Marina, the Cerulean Chanteuse, Sorcerer 13, "the Blaster"
The exotic, lovely, and deadly-dangerous Cerulean Chanteuse was born Marina Appleblossom, daughter of the mayor of Highmark. When she found out that her father had actually adopted her from draconic parents and she was the descendant of Ulthrixilikinnith, a Great Wyrm Blue Dragon, she took it surprisingly well. Naturally, she grew up to be an adept spellcaster. Morkoloth's lieutenant, Gyastrill, had his goblins kidnap her for his nefarious purposes. The party rescued her and she's adventured with them ever since. Marina thinks of Tuornil kindly and appreciates his protection, but she is in love with Castivin, who seems to oblivious to the whole thing.
Feats: Draconic Heritage, Dragon Bloodline, Dragon Sight, Draconic Power, Draconic Flight, Draconic Resistance
Favored Skills: Bluff, Concentration, Knowledge (arcana), Spellcraft

Tuornil Amakiir, High Elf Wizard 5/Spellsword 5/Eldritch Knight 3, "the Battlemage"
A deadly fighter and wielder of ancient, forbidden elven battle-magic, Tuornil travels alongside the party to avenge his dead master, slain by the lieutenant of the party's hated adversary, Morkoloth. Tuornil is a quiet, studious man, and thinks out every descision before acting. He is, however, fiercely protective of Marina, and would die to protect her.
Feats: Militia, Create Wondrous Item, Empower Spell, Spell Focus (necromancy), Greater Spell Focus (necromancy)
Wizard Bonus Feats: Scribe Scroll, Extend Spell
Eldritch Knight Bonus Feat: Improved Initiative
Favored Skills: Concentration, Decipher Script, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (nobility and royalty), Spellcraft

Roderico de la Torre. Human Fighter/Rogue/Duelist: Leader and warrior. Rapier wielding, lots of social skills. He's the party face.

Gromm Marrowcrusher. Dwarf Cleric/War Cleric: Healer. Also he cheers up the party when they are "in need of being pushed" into a fight.
- He keeps a permanent pursue of war. Glory is for dwarven. And even if he's the only dwarf in the party, he'll whip "dwarf ways" into his friends.

Lemona. Human Warlock: Unlimited resources. Control/field strategy/long range combat.
- A misterious woman with a smooth voice

http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/7606/lemona.jpg

Honorius Brut. Half-Orc Fighter/Knight: Sky AC tank. HP pool.
- A prudent, merciful, trustworthy and rational half-orc knight. However he may become the most dangerous and bloodiest member of the party if his secret (only known by Roderico) is revealed.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/2316/honoriusbrut.jpg

Dhiogenesios. Human Wizard: (with 1 level of Ranger). Wandering wizard with a spell list based on Divination, Abjuration and Enchantment mainly.
- Raised in a forest by an old annoying wizard, Diogenesios doesn't know about civilized codes. He's brutally sincere, although he's totally aware of how inconfortable this is in civilized society. So he loves going from city to city using his overwhelming intelligence to give speeches about the absurdity of everything. He only owns his dog Kynos and a leather pouch.

Hassisashin. Human Ranger/Nomad (1st level of aristocrat).
Ranger with knowledge of multiple terrains, specially desert/hot environments. Highly skilled in ranged combat and stealth. Sniper.
- Hassisashin is the prince of a remote desert tribe, although nobody knows what is he doing in this land. He's appreciated as a highly valuable scout and sniper, but has some problems with smoking and getting high.

I'm going to bend the rules a little:

Lucky, CG Revenant Rogue 3 / Cleric 1 / Divine Trickster 2
(allowed to waive some of the Divine Trickster requirements by DM fiat/backstory reasons)
The Hero
-Petty thug who died in a gutter after performing one selfless act in his life, turning against his fellow gang members to save an old woman and her granddaughter. This attracted the attention of the gods of fortune, betrayal and kindness, who resurrected him on the spot--albeit as a Revenant--to continue pursuing their aims. He feels vaguely uneasy about this but is glad of his new lease on life. However, he hasn't let on about this--only that he was badly beaten and had a change of heart, coming to work for the church afterwards. While there, he meets and begins to fall for--

Kris, CN Elf Rogue 1 / Wizard 3 / Arcane Trickster 2
(Er, likewise)
The Lancer
-She disguised herself as a devout acolyte in order to infiltrate and loot the temple. She flirts with Lucky, only for him to--unbeknownest to either--be the one who thwarts her attempt to rob the place that night. The church comes up with a mission and decides the two of them should go on it, much to her dismay--she'd planned to be long gone by then. They are joined by--

Vandro, CG Human Crusader 6
The Big Guy
-Heroic, chivalrous, poetic, and hammy. An iterate knight who pursues--

Blam, NG Human Unarmed Swordsage 4 / Psychic Warrior 2 (with mantled warrior ACF)
The Chick
-Psychic martial arts warrior who holds herself to impossibly high standards in her training. Her remarkable empathy allows her to connect with--

Kinkajou, LN Hadozee Dungeoncrasher Fighter 2 / Warblade 4
The Sixth Ranger
-Powerfully built brachiating warrior who nonetheless feels deeply alienated from the mostly human society around him, except for--

William, LN Human Psion (Telepath) 6
The Smart Guy
-Deeply alone, alienated from other humans by his intellect and psychic powers, he finds some common ground with Kinkajou.

(occasional guest stars Blackmoon--N Human Factotum 6 [making a great deal of use out of Iaijutsu Focus]--and Bobby--LG Human Wizard 5 / Mod 1)

Grignr, a professional *******. No, really. Level 12 duergar rogue.

Well going with PCs/NPCs I've made and played...

Thomas Zayl, a.k.a "Laughing Tom": Chaotic Chaotic Good focused conjurer (no enchantment, evocation, or necromancy) 5/Wild Mage 8 (uses practiced spellcaster to avoid the penalty). A tad bit crazy, and at DM request has Improved Familiar with a pixie familiar (that is his own madness taken flesh). Uses Tentacle spells.

Zantar the Green-Clad: Neutral Good Arcane Hierophant. From a different world completely, he rides a tiger named Rhine. More serious, he was fun to play from 12-20 (I apologize for using a DMPC, but I told them no 3 man party and they invited another player anyway). Wears a green cloak of reistance from which he got his name.

Zanar: Chaotic Good. A fey themed warlock, can't lie (if he says "I will do X" he is geased to do so, he cannot knowingly say something that is false, etc) but had wilderness skills added to class skills. Uses invisibility, flight, and blinding blasts (at higher level glaive for fun).

Andoric: Neutral Good. Prosyletizing (I spelled that wrong) cleric of Pelor and all around heal-bot. Introduced when I was trying to take the DMPC Zantar out and a PC demanded to run an adventure (leaving them stranded in another world) and I played him. I then had to DM, was forced to run him as a DMPC for one adventure (he nat 1 a save versus a beholder eye-ray and died, they tried to force me to reroll it). They were willing to pay for his revival (but his church did, then sent him on quests). He's a healbot, Augment Healing, Imbued Healing, the work (Harm was fun though).

Asylia: Chaotic Neutral on the way to Chaotic Good. Ex-servant of the god of drestruction attempting to make admends and with an abused past. Warblade. Shock trooper build.

Vindalf: Lawful Good Dwarf Crusader. Goes for heavy armor and high AC. His armor is intelligent and his clan has long sought to make the "Ultimate Armor and Weapon". It succeeded with the latter by making a cursed ax of doom, which he now has to reclaim and possibly destroy.

Mornian Clines, Female Halfling Factotum 13
The Hero
- She is the CG leader of the party. Tries to keep the others in line. She was raised by a doppelganger who left when she turned twelve. She is currently trying to track said doppelganger down.

Sebastian Ignion, Male Gnome Warlock 1/Archivist 12
The Smart Guy
- Second in command. His alignment is LN. He shows no emotion using logic as the base for all decisions. The exception to his logic based thinking is when someone mentions fish at which point he flies into a rage attacking everything in sight.

Sandy Terian, Female Halfling Paladin of Yondalla 13
The Good Twin
-She is obsessed with curing her brother as what she calls the taint. Smash first ask question later kind of girl. Alignment is LG.

Andy Terian, Male Halfling Favored soul of Dallah Thaun 11/ Rogue 2
The Bad Twin
- Hates combat that puts him or his sister in any risk. Talking is his first choice of action after that its running and coming back to kill them in their sleep. Has no real kinship with the party aside from his sister who he is very protective of and so he can not leave since she wont. He is NE to the core.

Blue Wing, Female Gnome Blue Dragon Shaman 12/ Barbarian 1
The Wild Child
- Was raised in a tribe of dragon worshipers when the tribes lord and most of the tribe was killed by adventurers. She was found and taken in by Hank and has been his adopted daughter ever since. She makes all her choices based on what she calls the draconic code. She is LN.

Sir. Hank, Male Human Warblade 13
The Lifter of Heavy Things
- Was a forester when he found Blue and adopted her. He continued to be until one day he was arrested for hunting in the king of Nowhere's woods which is when Mornian happened by and with a quick chat and a large bribe bought herself a companion. Hank has been working for her since to pay her off but he doesn't mind because Blue seem to like Mornian so he may continue working with Mornian even after his debt is payed. Hank is CN.

Hmm. A party of six made up of characters I've played...

Tavish, CG half-elf bard 13. Although he acts blithe and foppish, there's a mind like a razor behind that charming smile. Also a master of disguise.

Mordaciter, CG human fighter 4/evoker 9, originally from an edition where evoking meant something. An alcoholic with a cat familiar that's smarter than he is. Wears red and orange. Surprisingly handy in a non-magical fight thanks to time spent in the military.

Ubar, NE goblin enchanter 7/mindbender 6. Diminutive, Machiavellian, self-aggrandising. Rides around on a flying ballista. Strength 4.

Funkmaster Flexx (real name unknown), CG dwarf bard 13. Ginger-bearded cross between Dethklok and David Bowie. Primary weapons are a guitar with strings of spell storing and a shovel.

Sten Treefeller, N human druid 13. A druid who is also a lumberjack. Likes sustainable forestry. Accompaned by Balthazar, the most useless wolf in the world.

Gregor, LG half-orc urban ranger with some sort of 'watch detective' prestige class. Gregor isn't too bright, but boy is he dedicated to justice. He's also surprisingly perceptive.

No front-line fighter and no cleric? This group probably won't last long... :smalltongue:

Oo, oo!! Lemme join the fun! Well...I'll be pretty serious with one thing: one of the classes isn't exactly Core (as befitting the petition of the thread), but it makes loads of sense in context. It's also kinda incomplete, since there's a need for a proper 6th character. One of them is basically an idea from a character I played (which kinda appears as part of the character's background, although heavily retrofitted), and one is actually based on a character I played.

So, here's how I'd go with:

First, Gadaniel "Gad" Felstaff, LG Human Paladin (single classed). At first glance, he would be considered the archetypal "knight in shining armor"; courteous, chivalric, brave, good-natured, willing to slay evil dragons and rescue fair maidens. However, there's a little catch.

Don't ever call him a knight. EVER. He'd rather go with the appropriate title of "Paladin", as that's his vocation. In fact, even though he swears allegiance to a sire much like his entire family does, he's more of a holy warrior than a noble or vassal. Unfortunately, because of what he does and how he behaves, everybody just HAS to call him "knight in shining armor". The fact he keeps his armor just a tad TOO polished doesn't help.

Gad would be sort of an oddity, speaking of Paladins. While the first impression AFTER the first impression of "knight in shining armor" (and the accompanying reaction) is that he's a jerk, dim-witted and holier-than-thou, the idea would be the opposite. Gad tries to (and I mean it; TRIES to) strike a balance between Lawful Stupid and Stupid Good. In the eyes of most of his fellows (...well, one of his fellows), he's too naive and trusting of people; however, this helps a lot since his vocation as a Paladin and his honest, truly good nature allows him to remain "naive" without falling into outright stupidity. He's more than willing to forgive and forget rather than to smite and then ask questions, willing to trust shady or outright sinister people out of sheer belief that everyone has a bit of good inside, and a bit too generous for his tastes. However, he's not extremely forgiving (for he considers abuse of trust and betrayal as great sins), not extremely trusting (he wouldn't trust a demon, or a demon-worshipper, or even a lowly cultist without a sign that s/he can be redeemed), and not extremely generous (if investing is a better way of doing good than sharing, he'd rather invest than share). Although he's pretty smart, his smarts show at the most unimaginable way possible.

If anything, think of Gad as a smarter, Lawful Good Paladin version of Elan (of all people!!)

Of course, even he admits that taking levels in Paladin impair his ranks in Knowledge (Genre Savviness), because it's cross-class; nevertheless, he knows that it's a very important tactic, right along with Use Magic Device and Diplomacy.

The second member of the team is Sam, also known as Samantha Pickles, CG Changeling Sorcerer (single classed). Sam is (or rather, was) an apprentice to a witch, whom joins Gad's entourage after a chance meeting. Which consisted of Gad being sent by a king to kill/"capture the witch in a most violent way possible" to remedy a curse laid upon his daughter, after being promised lands and the maiden's hand (and to which Gad just said "I'll do it free, out of the need to right that wrong!"), and the actual witch that cursed the princess being on a witches' convention (and oddly, not having returned for several months). Gad noticed that Sam wasn't actually evil or anything, and pleaded for her to follow him and remedy that curse. After a slight discussion, grudgingly agreeing to follow him, and actually solving the problem (by having Gad of all people pointing out why the princess actually deserved the curse just to protect Sam, as she was still unable to cast Break Enchantment...), she follows him willingly.

If Gad is "sorta naive, too trusting and not enough genre-savvy for his own good" (her "words", not mine), Sam is blunt to a fault and rather unable to trust people. Her way of being lies upon her childhood: in terms of fairy-tales, Sam was pretty much the "Ugly 'Human'-ling" (in reference to the Ugly Duckling); she was very ugly in her childhood years, and that hardened her resolve a bit. Her desire to change her appearance and look beautiful made her study the arcane arts; surprisingly, she turned hauntingly beautiful once she had her "arcane growth spurt" (and thus became a Sorceress). This also has a slight secret: the idea is that she doesn't know she's a Changeling, and strongly believes she's a Human in most terms. Not even the moderately genre-savvy Gad, or the rest of her party members know she's a shapechanger and simply assume she "used Alter Self so much, she can use it at-will".

Which fits, since as a Sorceress, she has too much of a penchant for Transmutation spells. Alter Self is not the only spell on her list, and she doesn't choose explicitly from the Transmutation school, but she gets quite a lot from the school. She's also rather unique in that, in battle, she rarely has any blasting spells: she's more of a buffer kind, using her "semi-inexhaustible amount of spells" to support her party.

Did I mention she usually appears as a tall, slender, well-built buxom blonde woman who doesn't lose a chance to point out she's actually quite smart, thankyouverymuch?

The third party member of the group is Charles de Langsley, LN Half-Elf Ranger/Scout (Swift Hunter build) and...I kid you not, Sheriff of Nothingham.

Do I have to mention he's the great-great-great-great-great...I think I lost count...great-great-great descendant of Robin Hood? Yes, loads of reference to fairy tales and breaking them.

Charles joins the party after a bad run with the people, and specifically of a group of "Neo-Merry Men" people who act like Robin Hood, stealing from a group to give to another group. Except, this time and as good thieves, they steal from the rich and the poor to help old, poor themselves. Nominally, Charles opposes them because he still believes in fairness and equality (and that taxes are important to the city's economy, but that taxes are important to the city; aka, it's fair to take taxes, but no one else rather than the city and its inhabitants must benefit from it), and actually behaves a bit more like Robin Hood, his famous descendant, than the plague of false Merry Men sprauling around. Even worse, he must face opposition from a new monarch who's just a bit much like Prince John and too less like Richard the Lionhearted. So he's torn, and would be seven feet deep were it not because of Gad and Sam, who were the only members of the party at the moment.

Charles is not only the party's tracker, hunter-gatherer and scout (literally), he's also a fine lawyer that can make very convincing and almost unbeatable arguments...were he to actually dedicate to it. Even though he's the descendant of a human legend, and Sheriff because of his father, he has elven blood in his veins (which accounts for why he's more of a Ranger than a Scout), and he looks younger than he seems...even though he has about 50 human years. He's a pinpoint archer, pretty much landing the arrow where he lays his eye, and also very mobile and swift (as a Scout usually is).

So far, we have someone who's supposed to have a Special Mount, someone who's supposed to have a Familiar, and someone who's supposed to have an Animal Companion. Neither of them has an animal follower, either because they haven't called it (Charles), because they focused on something else (Sam and Immediate Metamagic), or because they want to distance from a stereotype (Gad, who hasn't chosen what the heck he wants to do with his class feature).

The fourth member is no less and no more than Jingo Ningel Jabberwock Zen'kei-Jingles, CN Gnome Bard/Lyric Thaumaturge and reporter extraordinaire! With his trusty beret (which is secretly a Hat of Disguise), his trustworthy metallic lute (actually a Lute of Pain), and his wits (which are so-so because his Wisdom isn't so hot, but his Charisma and Intelligence are quite high if not off-the-roof).

Jingo is a pretty interesting fellow, since he's not the inspiring kind of Bard (that doesn't mean he doesn't inspire; he does and quite well). He's more of a chronicler, a writer and a composer looking for the "next epic story". He's not the kind that'll hog the glory, given his size and background; however, he believes he's got the right eye for heroes. Which...doesn't help much when he gets stuck with the group of Gad, Sam and Charles, even more considering how he meets them (after all, Charles is good at gathering info, but not in the sense in which Jingo can). Although his intention is to write an epic adventuring novel, he's not very far from bardic traditions and tends to be a boaster, with the usual "too big of a mouth for his size".

In combat, his magic arts and his gnomish upbringing make him a utility tool: wands over here, scrolls over there, and mostly seeking the right tool for the right job, even if at the end he has to feign it (likely, through avid use of Use Magic Device, pardoning the redundancy). That, along his tendency to hide and normally remain inconspicuous, which would make him a sort of deus ex machina; appearing when things are pretty dire with the right tool for the job, then fading again into obscurity until the battle ends. And the tchotchkes (sp?): caltrops, bits of scroll, bits of paper, rope... along his diary/novel manuscript and his well-earned Bag of Holding (as well as Gloves of Storing, Belt of Hidden Pouches, as well as other extra-dimensional holding spaces). Well, the idea is that he's meant to be a master at both blending in and standing out, contradicting as it may be.

That'd be the group so far. There's an idea of adding a Psion, but exactly what race eludes my mind. He'd be the token blaster, since Psions do awesome blasters and psionics has been so promoted in-game, but rarely such a good system is used. The last member would probably be a Martial Adept, perhaps a Warblade given that there's enough buffers, impromptu healers and even a blaster, but only one devoted meleer. I might revisit the idea later, perhaps?

Human/Strongheart Halfling (if non-core) Sorcerer: DPS build, Sorcerer 6/Warmage (Age of Mortals Prestige Class) 3/Incantrix 3/Archmage 1 (next 7 levels will all be Incantrix). Probably take a Arcane Thesis on a higher level spell DPS spell (or a lower-level one that scales nicely such as Orb of Force or Dalamar's Lightning Lance) and start taking things out with the HP damage.

Human/Lesser Aasimar (if non-core) Cleric: Divine Metamagic cheese build. Cleric 5/Stormlord 8. Spare feats go into Extra Turning (or spare gold goes into nightsticks). The tank/frontline fighter due to buffs from persisted spells and class features.

Human/Beguiler (Shining South if non-core) Beguiler: Skill & Utility build. Beguiler 6/Rainbow Servant 7 (going for the capstone ability to cast all Cleric spells spontaneously). Basically this build is the skill-monkey/battlefield control now and will be the ultimate utility caster and healer later.

Half-Orc/Feral-Mountain-Orc (Players Guide to Faerun/Savage Species if non-core) Barbarian: DPS-unkillable build. Barbarian 2/Fighter 4/Frenzied Berserker 7. Spare feats go into extra rage. Will probably have the highest HP and straight up melee damage of the group (save maybe the DMM cleric).

Human/Strongheart halfling (if non-core) Wizard: GOD build. Wizard 3/Master Specialist (Abjurer) 6/Initiate of the Sevenfold Viel 4. The one who's almost impossible to kill.

Dwarf Druid: Generalist build. Druid 13. Takes natural spell at level 6 and the rest will probably be either spellcasting or summoning feats. Adds more frontline combat abilities, full-spellcasting, and crowd control with summons.
