on the right, we have a War Mage.

A warmage? You mean THE warmage. Isle's the name. Ms. Isle (http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/profiler/view_char.php?cid=31756) :smallcool:

Move to K11

Could you link to your character sheet? Thanks

Koury
2009-12-22, 07:43 PM
That your turn?

If so, move to Q11 and cast spell

Spellcraft DC 15 Ray of Frost, Fell Drained

[roll0] vs Touch AC 13+2
[roll1] plus one negative level

End

Sanctuary spell

Koury
2009-12-22, 07:48 PM
Yes. Yes there is. I never noticed another arena other then Dawn had that. OK.

Move to Q4

Ready Action. I'm gonna make my action go on your move and have it use my old rolls, otherwise I feel like I'm cheating.

EDIT: Crap. Actually, I can't even do that. That spell was metamagic'd meaning I can't use it as a readied action anyway.

OK then, I'll just take a single move action. Or I don't know... Whatever you want me to do.

Miss.

Move to P5, drawing rapier as part of the move.

Meh. It wouldn't really change my strategy whatever you do, so do whatever.

Koury
2009-12-22, 07:59 PM
Well, it changes my amount of spell slots. I'm not trying to get extra. Though I guess officially I litterally couldn't have taken the action and therefore retain them either way, I just feel lame doing that. Of course, had my spell 'hit' we'd be doing the same thing minus the effect anyway, so whatever.

This is assuming your move to P5 stays. Or for that matter, anywhere within 30'

5 ft step to R5
Cast Spell

Spellcraft DC 15Ray of Frost, Fell Drained

[roll0] vs Touch AC 13
[roll1] Plus one negative level

End

Bluejay

Five foot step to Q4
Feint as a move action [roll0] (opposed by sense motive, adding BAB - on a fail, lose dex bonus to AC)
If I beat your sense motive:
Free:Shout Rapier sneak attack! (if I don't beat it, attack normally)
Attack with rapier [roll1]
[roll2]
[roll3]

Done

Koury

Your 9 misses regardless of my roll.

5 ft to Q6

Cast Spell

Spellcraft DC 15 Ray of Frost, Fell Drained

[roll0] vs Touch AC 13
[roll1] Plus one negative level

End

EDIT: FINALLY, a hit. (I went all last match w/o a hit)

Oh yeah, you're dead. Feel free to open spoilers now.

Take five damage

Five foot to R5
Declare dodge against Ms. Isle
Move: Feint[roll0]
Move: Demoralize Opponent[roll1] (1d20+lvl+wis bonus+save modifiers to fear). If you fail, you are shaken (-2 attack, ability checks, saving throws)

Done.

One of THOSE. I see it now. Though the legality has been long debated and loathed, I cannot contest it.

Koury
2009-12-22, 08:20 PM
I edited my post. You're actually dead.

From my level 0 spell :smallamused: Check the spoilers.

(Ok, ok, it wasn't level 0 anymore, but it sounds cooler )

Koury
2009-12-22, 08:23 PM
The legality has been debated? On what grounds? I've checked and double checked and I'm 99% sure you can use Versatile Spellcaster to get a slot above your normal max. You can't cast the next level of spell, but the use come in the form of metamagics.

Loathed, however, is perfectly justified.

Want to reset and use this thread for a rematch? I want to fight you straight, no Fell Drain. Spells, of course, but no OHKOs.

It has something to do with slots vs spells. But I think it was a magic missile they debated. He did some fancy two for one deal to get a second level spell, but that didn't give him the slot he needed for the metamagic. But with a level zero, it is legal.

Sure, I'm up for a rematch.

and rolling new init [roll0]

Koury
2009-12-22, 08:29 PM
Oh, yeah, I think I know what you're saying. You can turn in two level one slots for a level 2, but you can't turn in 4 level ones for two twos and turn those in for one three and use that level three to fell drain a MM.

Sanctuary ending triggers my ready action. I cast a spell and you take

[roll0]

[roll1]

Regardless of that roll, move to L3. Cast spell.

[roll2]

End

If I roll minimum damage both times, you are staggered. If I roll any more than minimum you are dead.

what spells were they?

Koury
2009-12-22, 08:55 PM
Oh, sorry. Magic Missile. Unerringly hits you for 1d4+1, +3 for my Warmage Edge.

Ms. Isle usually casts Magic Missile :smallcool:

Figures. I really should learn the rules for magic use.

Koury
2009-12-22, 08:59 PM
What are you unfamiliar with? Mechanics or simply the spells themselves, in general?

I'd gladly help you with a mage build. If not for the arena, just so you understand them better.

madtinker
2009-12-22, 09:05 PM
Mostly just the variety of spells and how to effectively use them. And mechanics. But more than anything, the cheese. I started a Druid, but couldn't get into it.

So thanks, but I really just need to do the reading.

Besides, melee is more fun, at least for me.

Koury
2009-12-22, 09:12 PM
Ever looked into ToB? You may enjoy that a lot if you like melee.

Or not, its very polarizing. :smallannoyed:

How to beat a swordsage in three easy steps (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125452):

1: be lucky
2: stay out of range
3: bull rush him off a cliff

Koury
2009-12-22, 09:47 PM
Those apply to all melees. You should get some javelins or something regardless, to chuck at mages when they try to cast but are out of melee range.

Offer stands if you feel like magicing it up. Either build help, spell help, playtesting, whatever. Melee too, why not.
