OK, here's the thing. (4e, but doesn't matter much, as there is minimal crunch involved.)

We were just taken into custody by guards. I'm a wanted criminal. (100g, Dead or Alive).
I still have everything but my weapons. (currently taken in for questioning re: the fire)

Situation: we broke into a manor house, drove off some cultists of Vecna The Jearkass (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JerkAss), saved one of the members of the house, (no one else was home), and someone set the place on fire (not one of us.)

Give me some RP strategies to help me survive this, assuming the individual we saved does not have the clout nor the standing to get us off the hook.

I have several lies, from the reasonably plausible to the outlandishly ridiculous, but I'd like to see what the Playground can come up with. Who knows, you just might save my tail.

(Bluff,Diplomacy: +9-10 ish, 6th level. We have a Bard, if that might help.)

What are you wanted for? That might help come up with ideas.

Murder in another precinct of the Kingdom(which I didn't do. I was an accessory), quite some distance away.

Wait, you're Dead On Arrival and you want to know how to survive? What are you, revenant?

Dead or Alive. This is (approximately) the Middle Ages, not an ER. :smallcool:

Hm. So, are you being charged for the manor thing, or are you being charged for the accessory to murder? :smallconfused:

If you are wanted for theft, robbery, sedition, or another "mild to moderate" crime -

*Bribe the jailer to drop the key or similar
*Bribe the prosecutor to do a crappy job
*Bribe the judge to judge in your favour

If you are wanted for murder, treason or another high crime -

*Bribe a cleric to res you after your execution
*Bribe a necromancer to, er, "res" you after your execution
*Sell your soul to a demon to break you out before your execution
*Get a really good barrister
*Have your friends break you out
*Hire a forgery artist to make a very nice official pardon from ye King/Duke/Etc
*When a cleric comes through the jail to act as chaplain to the prisoners, talk to him/her. swear to become a paladin and atone and ask them to intercede on your behalf.
*Hire a charm specialist to mind-control key figures in the trial (judge, etc.)
*Take a level of druid and accidentally break out without even really trying to, then rule the world.

As to the last three or so, this is 4e. I can't "take a level" of anything I'm not already taking.

Er, I don't recall them getting rid of the multiclass feats.

Agree to stand trial. If the DM puts you in prison, go all Oz (http://www.hbo.com/oz/)on his game :smallamused:

Have the bard perform a Chewbacca Defense, it might even work!

Generally, if the DM is having you captured, he's got a plan for how the plotline is going to play out. It's sorta've like Elan's point in this comic. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0556.html)

Just go with it.

Er, I don't recall them getting rid of the multiclass feats.

Which I need an open feat slot to take. (and I've already taken the Warlock Multiclass for story purposes.)

Also, the last time we were in prison, one of our party was uncerimonusly (sp) executed WITHOUT a trial or a chance to verbally defend himself, and I only survived by a string of good rolls, quick thinking, and Fey Step. I am NOT assuming that the plan entails me surviving. Because it doesn't matter either way.
