How many of a certain type of enchantment can you place on a piece of equipment? For example, can you make a Longsword Shock and Defending? Or can you only have one enchantment per item?

Quick before the ninjas!

You can have as many enchantments as you want so long as the total enchantment doesn't exceed +10.

For example you could have a +4 flaming vorpal blade but not a +5 flaming vorpal blade because the total would be +11.

Kick-ass, thanks

Disclaimer: This is assuming 3.0e/3.5e. In 4e, you can only have one magical enchantment on a weapon.

Just as a reminder in case you don't know, you can't have an enhancement higher than +5. The additional "padding" is there for special abilities.

Actually you can have a total a +5 Flaming Vorpal sword, but it would take an epic level character to make it and it would cost ten times as much as the normal formula. Same for a +6 (with no special abilities) weapon.

Well, you actually can have more than a +10, but the jump in price is absurd.

Ugh, epic rules. Would you believe me if I said I never played in an epic game :smallcool:

If all the players and DM manage to stay interested long enough, that will eventually change. Starfall is planned to go to about level 30, I believe.

Yes, I would. Mainly because nobody I know has, either.

Yeah, this was 3.5, and I just wanted to know about the stacking properties of the effects

Yeah, pile on as many as you want, no matter how different they are. You could even have a +1 weapon with +9 worth of special enchantments. It's only the enhancement bonus that's capped at +5.
