View Full Version : Champions of the Gods, Round 1: Scion vs. Typhoon Bringer

The air is cold and dank, and you hear the dripping of water in the distance. You know it should be dark, but somehow, even beyond the reach of the torches, you can still see the narrow tunnels of these caves... somewhere out there, your opponent awaits you, and only one of you will ever leave these caves alive.

Scion starts on the left, between the two torches, Typhoon Bringer to the Right

IIRC, we should do all rolls in this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136398) thread. Anyways, it seems that I go first.

Typhoon Bringer moves quickly while sticking to the shadows. He winds up facing a small campfire in what appears to be the center of the arena.

Round 1: Typhoon Bringer moves twice and ends his turn two squares to the right of the camp fire.

((Ooh, my bad.))

The Scion, a warrior clad in bizarrely patterned plate and wielding a cruel flail in both hands, advances; he adopts a very strange stance.

Round 1: Moving up 25 feet (so I'm two squares into the tunnel, four squares away from the left end of the map in other words), readying an action:

If I make a successful Attack of Opportunity, attack with Mad Prophet's Revelation.

Also, not quite a readied action, but I will use Far Reach if he triggers it--that is, if he moves out of a square within 30 feet.

Maneuvers:
Granted:
Stunning Revelation
Tabula Rasa
Mad Prophet's Vision
Far Reach

Readied:
Mad Prophet's Vision
Drain Life
Stunning Revelation
Strike of Gravity
Far Reach
Elder Mountain Hammer
Tabula Rasa

Stance:
Distracting Harmony - enemies within 30 feet get -4 to skill and ability checks

His form still slightly obscured from the tunnel on the opposite side by a section of cave wall, Typhoon Bringer decides to move around the bonfire and hug the section of cave wall closest to the lip of the opposing tunnel.

Once there, he focuses his mind and stance to better fight his foe.

Round 2: Moves 25 feet so that he ends his turn immediately to the left of the campfire. He also readies an action.

Ready an attack action once The Scion steps on the square immediately below Typhoon Bringer

Current Stance:
Stance of Clarity - Diamond Mind

Current Readied Maneuvers:
-Legion of One
-Vanguard Feint (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5710173)
-Onslaught of Blows
-Fear-Eating Technique (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100874)
-Stone in the River (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101214)

As Typhoon Bringer moved, the Scion twisted his arm in an impossible way; he swung, and the head of his flail appeared next to Typhoon Bringer despite the distance.

((Counter activated during your turn, DC 13 Martial Lore check to identify it, but at a -4 penalty due to my stance. If 32 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7596343&postcount=13) beats your AC, a readied action goes off--a strike (DC 15 Martial Lore to identify, but at same penalty) but misses because I rolled a 1 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7596343&postcount=13) :( ))

After that, the Scion adjusts his stance and takes a few steps forward. Standing in the mouth of the tunnel, he roars the name of his deity at his opponent, a roar that might stop a man in his tracks.

((Switching stances, moving to 10 feet away from Typhoon, making an Intimidate check as a move action that affects all squares within 10 feet. 1d20 + your level + wisdom bonus + any other modifiers against fear, to beat a DC 40 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7596444&postcount=14) check or cower for one round, than be shaken for another.))

Stance:
Switched from Distracting Harmonies to Thicket of Blades.

Maneuvers:
Expended:
Far Reach
Mad Prophet's Revelation

Granted:
Stunning Revelation
Tabula Rasa
Drain Life

Remaining:
Strike of Gravity
Elder Mountain Hammer

OOC: Looks like Typhoon Bringer would be taken out before the fight has even started. Btw, I take it that those are two separate effects? The 1st attack hits me without a problem. Lousy will save... :P

Typhoon Bringer fails (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7600319&postcount=16) his save/check

The mention of the Scion's deity sends a chill up Typhoon Bringer's spine. He can only cower in fear as he comes face to face with something beyond his abilities.

((Low will save? This is not going to be a pleasant fight :smalltongue:))

The Scion relaxes a little. He sidles up to his opponent and adopts a conversational tone. "Now was that so hard? You've let His fear into your heart, that's the first part of the conversion. It's going to be difficult *WHAM* taking yourself apart to accept Him, but I'm here to help. Now, forget."

((The attack that hit during your turn did 6 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7602477&postcount=17) damage. Anyway, taking a five-foot step to become adjacent to Typhoon, and initiating a strike: if a 23 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7602477&postcount=17) hits, make a DC 24 Will save or lose your most recently gained feat for one minute.))

Maneuvers

Remaining:

Stance
Still Thicket of Blades.

Even as The Scion lectures him, Typhoon Bringer feels the memory of his recent training slipping away from him but he is not worried.

"I may have him in my heart but that doesn't mean I accept him into me!"

Taking a moment to calm himself, Typhoon Bringer quickly delivers a series of blows that seem to ignore the protection his opponent wears.

(Making a strike as a full attack action. Hope the first two attacks in this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7606492&postcount=19) sequence hit your touch AC)

OOC:
You used the Tabula Rasa strike last round right? Not to complain or anything but the save DC for it is DC 14+Cha. I doubt anyone with a martial bent could pull a 30 Cha off at this level. :smallwink:

OOC: ((Well, sort of: one feat increases all my save DCs by 1, and a class feature increases all my save DCs by 4. Both those hit, but only if:))

"Then I'll just have to be more convincing won't I?"

As Typhoon Bringer lifts his weapon, the Scion turns his head and twitches. Typhon's mind is assailed with horrific images of weird geometries and transfigured bodies.

"Isn't it glorious?"

((A counter: Will save DC 26 or be stunned for a round. You're shaken this round, so it's at a -2 penalty.))

Whether or not his opponent connects, the Scion seems inspired. "Let me show you a little more..." With a wicked grin, he swings his flail...

((If 33 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7607419&postcount=20) hits, DC 25 Will save or take 4 points of Wisdom damage and see the Far Realm (be blinded) for a minute.))

Maneuvers
Used one of my daily uses of Sudden Recovery--3 remaining--to regain Mad Prophet's Vision.

Expended:
Far Reach
Mad Prophet's Revelation
Tabula Rasa

OOC: Those will saves just plain hurt. Especially on fighter-types.

Even before his blows could connect, Typhoon Bringer's mind is assaulted (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7610330&postcount=21) by non-euclidean geometries and other more maddening sights.

Not even seconds have passed when he sees something no one was meant to see and goes blind as a result (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7610346&postcount=22).

Indeed Typhoon Bringer feels (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7611135&postcount=25) the weight of the world on his shoulders.

"I will not fall so easily. I am the Scourge of the Seas! I am the Typhoon Bringer!"

Trying to salvage his position, Typhoon Bringer attempts to strike fear (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7611198&postcount=26) into his opponent's heart.

Afterwards, he blindly swings his sword (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7611225&postcount=27) in front of him in the hopes of hitting the Scion.

OOC: Intimidate as a move action due to his stance then attempt to recover his maneuvers while making a regular attack. Hope an intimidate of 32 and an attack of 20 succeed.

((You dropped your sword when you were stunned (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/conditionSummary.htm#stunned). It takes a move action that provokes an AoO (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsincombat.htm#tableMoveActions) to pick it back up.))

For the attack of opportunity--27 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7611597&postcount=32) hit?))

The Scion looks a little unnerved, shifting slightly, before letting out another roar. As it concludes, he adds "I'll reach your blasphemous soul more directly, then!"

((Another attempt to demoralize--level check vs 25 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7611597&postcount=32), or cower on your next turn and be shaken on the turn after. Also, -4 penalty to all skill checks as a result of my stance. If 21 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7611597&postcount=32) hits, in addition to the damage, an extra 11 damage [lasts for an hour and can't be healed] and the penalty to skill checks increases to -5.))

OOC: In hindsight, the Leviathan-Born PrC pretty much needs a team to work efficiently. Btw, I guess pretty much any attack you make is gonna hit as long as it's not a nat 1. Pretty bad equipment choices on my part.

Try as he might, Typhoon Bringer's resolve falters yet again (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7618345&postcount=33) before this opponent before him.

OOC: Btw, I'm waiting for the damage result for your current attack before adding it in my sheet.

Haven

(OOC: Eh, I don't think it's bad equipment choices--it seems to be the same for me and I'm in full plate. Rather it's because of the only 20% WBL thing...plus PVP in D&D is kind of a weird proposition. And, I guess I'll just start rolling damage when I roll the attack to keep it simpler. Last round's damage was 17 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7622133&postcount=34) counting that extra 11. Oh, and the Attack of Opportunity did 12 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7623827&postcount=35) damage.)

Grinning widely, invigorated at his opponent's pain. the Scion lets out an especially vicious strike.

((If 33 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7622133&postcount=34) hits, then 32 damage (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7622133&postcount=34)--bypassing DR if you have it.))

OOC: It really is the bad equip choices. Instead of the 10K I spent for a Crystal Mask of Dread, I could have had more armor options.

Realizing he is on his last legs, Typhoon Bringer decides that he will go down fighting.

"Rrraaarrghhh!!"

Like a cornered beast, he unleashes a rain of blows (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7624705&postcount=36) upon his opponent.

OOC: One last jab before you win the match. Does a 22 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7624727&postcount=38) hit your AC? This is for crit confirmation.

"And here *wham* I thought *wham!* you'd be grateful *WHAM!*"

"...Hmm. Right, well. Clearly he was a lost cause."

After taking the mask from his opponent's body, he threw the corpse onto the fire in the middle, muttering a few twisted words to his patron. Partially as a sacrifice, but mostly the Scion just got the feeling that someone who loved water so much wouldn't like having his body burned.

((OOC: Anyway, yeah. Another match would be fun. Sorry this one was so lopsided. Don't know when I'll have time to make another character, probably this weekend.))
