I recall there being a feat that makes a dragon cast as a wizard rather then as a sorcerer based on its HD...
anyone recalls what it is called and where it is from?

I've never heard of this feat, and if it exists it is likely overpowered. I don't think Dragons need such a boost.

they are still not even close to being as good as an equivalent level wizard.
"best" use of it (for SRD listed dragons) is by a brass dragon who is juvinile (+4 LA, 13HD)... it gets 3rd level sorcerer by default, now its a 3rd level wizard and can cast 2nd level spell.
with an ECL of 17... where a human wizard is casting time stop and other level 9 spells.

half the other dragons will only get level 1 casting, or no casting at all at playable levels.

And as you go up the gap only gets larger... with great wyrm getting CL19... but also having around 40HD (38 brass, 41 gold, etc).
So, epic casting vs non epic casting.

It's not a feat, it's a template. Spellhoarding, Dragon Magazine 313.

Does not increase CR. :smalleek:

thank you.
for a dragon, do sorcerer levels stack with their casting? (and wizard for spellhoarding dragons)

Yes, but you're better off with PrC levels.

excellent point. for a familiar, it can have a human wizard. (improved familiar feat)

Now how can we apply this feat to a venerable cheesewrought Kobold loredrake thingy?

You know what would be totally badass? Playing a human wizard who is a dragon's familiar.

You could use the Dragon Familiar Feat, then rp it as the otherway around. So that little Copper Dragon on your shoulder is actually your undisputed master rather than an awesome pet :smalltongue:
