Here's what I don't get...

What I don't get is why does Haley's dad look like Girard all of a sudden? Sure it is most likely due to the art change but why exactly did his and Haley's hair color change from brunette to ginger?

He doesn't look like Girard at all, no more than Nale looks like Girard because they both have a goatee, or V does because they both have ponytails.

Ian's hair colour has always been the same as his daughter, so it changed to match Haley's hair. It has always been red hair, just a different shade.

EDIT: and if you want to compare colours, look at how Roy's skin evolved, among other things. The colours were changed when some didn't show up properly in print, I believe.

Ditto. Hell, the only difference between the two images of Haley's father I see is that his beard isn't as smooth in the second. Neither resemble Girard any more than any other two characters with the same hair color resemble each other.

A couple years ago, I came across a gender bent Haley, and s/he looked a LOT like normal/young Girard.

I've always thought Girard might be Haley's maternal side grandfather... It ties into my theory that Haley may have lied to Durkon by using the unvarnished truth here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0131.html).

Just a theory, but the best lies are the ones that are the truth, but not believed by anyone... :smallwink:

Girard and Haley's dad are both children of Snarl, their mothers had a one night stand at the rift hotel. That is why Girard is so chaotic/nasty and Haley has god-like powers to take a diamond from her character page.

As Lissou said, the colours were changed sometime around the publication of Dungeon Crawlin' Fools because the original colours didn't translate well to print; therefore you can't judge anything from the colour differences between a strip prior to that point and one afterward.

As for Girard and Haley's father looking similar, the Giant has gone on record as saying (and it's also pretty obvious if you think about it) that the stick figure art style doesn't allow for a huge differentiation between characters--mostly you tell them apart from skin colour, hair colour and hairstyle. Not too surprising, then, that two unrelated characters several hundred strips apart should happen to look similar.

Specifically, Haley's hair changed colour with the "art upgrade" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0198.html). Incidentally, in 277 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0277.html) Girard doesn't have a beard.
