You awaken in the center of a 10ft by 15ft room with stone walls, ceilings, and floors. A torch is burning on the wall behind you, while the other three walls have closed, metal doors with brackets allowing you to bar them from the inside. Unfortunately, only two metal rods are lying on the floor.

Sorel gets up and dusts himself off, making sure that he is intact. He inspects the room, noting the doors, torch, and metal bars.

He allows incarnum to flow through him, bringing his Mantle of Flames to life, flickering with blue flames that caress his form but do no harm. He opens his left hand and incarnum flows into it, bringing a sword of pure incarnum into being. It feels good in his hand, brimming with lawful power.

Sorel suspends the sword at his belt and picks up the bars. He bars the door in front of him and to his right. He picks up the torch and opens the door, allowing light from his torch to enter as he inspects the room before entering.

(East Door and South doors are barred. Inspecting north room from I2.)

You peer into a 10ft wide room, 30 ft long, with another wooden door on the far side. In the room is four kobolds(F1, E1, E2, C2). A small fire is flickering on the floor(D2). Apparently, they haven't noticed you yet.

Sorel sees the Kobolds and decides that they are an obvious threat to his mission. He quickly decides that they should be eliminated quickly and without hesitation.

He draws his Incarnum Weapon, feeling the surge of its power in his hand. He wastes no time continuing his mission.

He enters the room and raises his sword, bringing it upon the kobold closest to him.

((Moving to F2 and attacking the Kobold at F1. This is a surprise round, am I correct? If I am performing my action in error, I will retcon.))

That's correct. You can always take a surprise round if you haven't been spotted.

The kobolds leap into action as your sudden attack fells one of their number.

Oh indeed. They're low on hp.

Kobold #1 takes a stab at you with his spear. It's so small it's almost cute.

*facepalm*

I COMPLETELY forgot that I have my Mantle of Flame soulmeld shaped right now.

Due to my Mantle of Flame, and that I have 1 point of Essentia invested within, the Kobold that struck me takes 2d6 Fire Damage.

Fire Damage:

((I appologize, but I thiknk I may have screwed up part of the combat in failing to remember that. Will this roll count or must it be thrown out?))

Nah, thats fine. He staggers, weaving on his feet, as if he's nearly dead.

He takes a final stab at you, then slumps to the ground motionless.

The other one in front stabs at you as well, then the one in the rear takes a shot with a sling.

Having something equivalent to a magic weapon helps^^.

Your attack nearly penetrates the aged leather armor the kobold wears, but he dodged just enough to deflect the blow before it draws blood.

This fight sometimes ends up that way when there's some poor rolls.

Seeing no reason to change tactics, on the grounds that it's keeping him alive, the kobold in front of you stabs again, and the slinger again backs him up.

The same tactics are also keeping this battle easier. Having a more capable fighter in the front is what is preferrable by soldiers of the Pentifex.

It's hilarious...bad luck seems to go in these long, long streaks. Once one person recovers, the bad luck instantly gets passed on to someone new. Yesterday, it was akons turn. Goblins and him were having issues.

He grins eagerly at you, anticipating another miss, when suddenly you slash him apart. The kobold in the rear starts making worried noises, and looking around him uncomfortably, but pops off another shot with his sling, just in case it'll help.

Hmm, that poses a problem. You can still take move actions, of course, but if you attack him, well...you better kill him.

The last thing you see before your eyes close is the satisfying view of a kobold in much, much worse shape than you.

Time for stabilization checks.

Oh, on a side note, +300 xp.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-07, 09:33 PM
(((Shoot, I should have taken that potion instead of killing that kobold.
At least I KNOW he's dead)

How do I roll the stabilization check again?

Tyndmyr
2010-01-07, 09:35 PM
It's a 10% chance to stabilize every round, so basically, roll a D10 ten times. If you pull of a 10 anywhere in there, you stabilize at -however many failed rolls before then.

Tyndmyr
2010-01-07, 09:37 PM
Ouch, that's just bad luck there. Of course, if you like, you can restart either with the same, or a new character.

You definitely aren't the first to die to kobolds though...I think someone had the misfortune to die to them on the first round, due to insane rolls.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-07, 09:41 PM
I'll remove the KIA marking from Sorel's sheet and try again this time (I'm not gonna stop by getting mangled the first encounter from bad luck).

Should we restart from that first strike in this thread (assuming that I took the same actions and suprise-attacked the same Kobold at F1?)

Tyndmyr
2010-01-07, 10:00 PM
Eh, I'll just make a new thread for clarity. I didn't do that the first time, and it got me all sorts of confused. One sec.
