Okay giantitpers, 2010 (clearly twenty-ten as we are now in the future) has arrived. Time for new year's resolutions! Lay em down people!

1. I will out myself to my family by the end of the year.

2. I will work as hard as I can to get medical help for my depression.

3. Read at least one new book a month, excluding all the ones I will read for college classes.

4. Be more proactive in my romantic pursuits.

1) I will not put up with any abuse from anybody.
2) I will deal with emotional difficulties in a constructive, not destructive, manner.
3) I will in general try to be more of a respectable person.
4) This all adds up to breaking the cycle.

1. I will work has hard as I can to find a job.
2. I will get out of my parents' house by the end of the year, even if I have to live with someone else to do it.
3. I will either get my old computer to work again, or pull all the data that can be taken off of it from the old one to a hard drive, so I can preserve all the hard work I've done on it over the last 5 years.
5. I will be within 6 credit hours of or entirely finished with my Master's degree.

@Anuan: Perhaps you should hide the last, or Feliyo will notice your plot and you'll be screwed.

Me:

1. Continue to get along better with my siblings
2. Write two pages of journal in Spanish every other day
3. Work towards publication.

I have mixed feelings about new year's resolutions. #3 in particular. Resolving to "get published" is silly. It's like putting "lose 20 pounds" or "not have any more acne"; there are ways to approach those goals, but there's a certain element that's beyond your control. So my #3 is to try and submit to agents and continue improving my writing.

2. Get more ground on my webcomic.

You have good resolutions. I used to have 'get along better with my family' each year, but then I gave up and moved away. Now we all get along better, cause we don't see each other

Oh, I'm going to add 'ensure that I carry at LEAST one of my Aikido or Fencing courses for the entire year.

I have a couple. Probably more than I can keep

Quit softdrink (and all you guys doing it too, I might need help)
Edit my NaNo (It will be done! I wont cry every time I look at it...)
Write the novel that's rattling around in my head, and has been, since NaNo started (preferably before November)
Get a TER (Tertiary Entrance Ranking) of over 90, preferably over 95 (where the maximum is 99.95, and the average is probably 70-80)

The last two, I'm not so sure about. Like DeeRee, the last one is not something I can automatically do. I have to really work towards it, and work hard. Studying becomes a priority.
The third I'm not sure about because of the fourth. It depends how much work I need to put in to get 90-95% in each piece of work I put in. If I get it easily, I'll have time to write. If not, then I'll get a lot less done.

But the other two, I will do. I'm sick of forgetting my resolutions by the end of January.

1. Finish six personal projects this year. This was my resolution last year and I failed, so let's try again.

2. Buy no new video games until I have completed half the ones on my list of games I own but haven't completed.

Hmm...this is tough, since I actually want to follow up and accomplish my goals.

1) Be safer. I nearly died this year, and I don't want to be in the hospital or be on crutches ever again. So no more free climbing/falling off cliffs!

2) Continue physical therapy and get to 100%: I'm sick of being a cripple, and I really want to be back in the physical shape that I was in before my accident last July. So, keep up with the therapy and keep on pushing myself to go harder, faster, stronger...and hopefully not reinjure myself in the process.

3) Continue making new friends and integrating myself into the LGBT community at college.
3.5) Find a boyfriend!

4) Keep a 3.7+ GPA.

Hmmm Myself,

1. Send away for my medical stuff that i was supposed to do 2 months ago (was going to do it yesterday but forgot ....... easy one!)
2. Excerize more so i can run with my horses.
3. Ride at least twice a week during the week, or at least work with one of my horses.
4. Go forward and do something new at least once in the year, eg. Learn to play the violin, go diving, whale watching, travel, get a new job (depending on economy), start working with maile, start blacksmithing, just something new and different as ive done litterally nothing new or learned any new skills (aside from horse related) in the last 3 years.

Hmmm ... thats about it for this year ... hopefully ill actually stick to this!

I would so do this if I didn't live in the middle of a sine wave.

The precision of this phrase brightened my day.

One-time resolutions (Deadlines):
Edit a story of 20,000+ words, not my own (September)
Fit and sew one wardrobe capsule to RTW standard (December)
Complete legal name change (delayed start; USA, July; Ireland, November)

Ongoing resolutions (Rate of repetition):
Get biannual hair cut and style (February; September)
Hail a hoodie! or at least say something longer than 'hello' (weekly)
Grasp the hands of someone who mocks me (whenever it happens)

What drinks are the people who want to give up soda going to drink instead? Going straight back to water isn't for everyone.

wxdruid
2010-01-01, 10:19 AM
My resolutions:

1. Pass the AF Fitness test, the old version and the new version - twice this year
2. Eat less chocolate...at least 1 piece per day, less than 20 pieces per day
3. Get rid of more of the junk laying around the house, one room at a time
4. In spring: grow more herbs and do my yard work in a timely manner
5. Avoid TEMPEST WARRIOR as much as possible :smallyuk:

What drinks are the people who want to give up soda going to drink instead? Going straight back to water isn't for everyone.

I mostly drink water anyway, but I want to give up softdrink entirely because I drink far too much of it in Melbourne.

If I want something not-water-tasting, I'll grab probably Lipton Iced Tea of some variety. I'm a big fan of the rooibous. Maybe vitamin-water, though I'm not too big on that.

Then again, I'm doing this more for hydration and urinary tract health than weightloss or anything similar, so my limits are different to others.

1) Learn something new. Maybe cake decorating or take a cooking class or maybe kick-boxing.

2) Get Blitz into training. He's 70 pounds and 8 months old. If I don't do something soon he's going to be able to drag me around.

3) Continue with school. C's get degrees and I'm not (that) picky with my grades.

4) Finish the house before the next New Year :smalltongue:.

2> Point out condescendingly that resolutions should be made when appropriate, not just on the New Year
3> Break at least seven souls.
4> Be more blunt. I'm at "Parade sabre", need to go to "sledgehammer".
5> Become a nexus upon which the Hate of the Multiverse is bestowed.

OH NOES!

I failed :(

Today I got a snack from the service station on the way home - a bag of chips and a bottle of soft drink.

Soft drink!

And I didn't even realise until now - 5 hours later - when I'm sitting on the computer wondering why there's a soft drink bottle sitting next to me, all empty.

So I shall drink nothing but water for a week, to repent my sins.

Success: Hair restyling booked for the week after Valentine's Day.

Two months gone, ten to go--how are we doing?

Success: New haircut which drastically changes my apparent age with a bit of styling. The stylist also straightened my long hair, but that was a lot of time spent for not much of a change in look, so I haven't copied it.
In progress: Pants fitting (or 101 Even More Unusual Things to Do with Tinfoil). Name change, Ireland. Properly fitted dress pattern being lengthened into corset pattern.
Similar: Pleasantries properly exchanged with strangers. Entering into Swedish conversations at conversational speed, which involved blurting out my English contribution at full speed and then translating it in the pause while everyone tried to figure out what I contributed; rude to constantly do, but as a change from sitting in silence the entire time not too bad. Windfall of new clothes and reasonably priced fabric.

I got an A in one of my German intensives! Maybe even both of them!
I have not lost any weight. Now that I am no longer eating cafeteria food, I will try weight watchers again.

1. I will out myself to my family by the end of the year: No change

2. I will work as hard as I can to get medical help for my depression: meds may or may not be working. I don't know how to categorize this one.

3. Read at least one new book a month, excluding all the ones I will read for college classes: Still reading a lot.

4. Be more proactive in my romantic pursuits: Still trying. Still failing.

- Clean my apartmentMiserable failure.

- Keep my weight from rebounding :smalltongue:So far so good, overall. The cruise was rough, but cruises are like that, and I've mostly shed that gain already.

I apparently failed to post in this thread the first time around. My resolutions were:

1. Get a job/get back into school.
2. Find a significant other.
3. Work out my mental issues.

In order of completion thus far:
1. Back in school, so, completed.
2. Not a snowball's chance.
3. ^ditto.

1/3 isn't bad for being 1/4 done with the year.

Most pressing at the beginning of this year was acquiring a job. Then paying off some of my relatively small debt. I had originally toyed with the idea of learning to bake but my heart wasn't really in that one so I'm not sure that counts. Beyond that I wanted to meet more people and maybe make a couple more friends in town.

1. Find Job - Done
2. Steadily paying down small debt - In Progress
3. Learn to Bake - Meh... Nixed.
4. Make more local friends - I've gotten nowhere on this yet. :smallsigh:

1. Pass the AF Fitness test, the old version and the new version - twice this year - Haven't passed it yet and my weight won't budge now. I'm working on a low fat/low sodium diet and exercise and yet, my weight won't budge. *sigh* I'm doomed
2. Eat less chocolate...at least 1 piece per day, less than 20 pieces per day - eating about 6 pieces per day.
3. Get rid of more of the junk laying around the house, one room at a time - need to work on this some more and yet still more work needed
4. In spring: grow more herbs and do my yard work in a timely manner - already have quite the container garden going. I love growing herbs.
5. Avoid TEMPEST WARRIOR as much as possible - Managed to avoid it this time and avoided the drink fest party afterwards. :smallyuk:

Seven months gone, five to go--how are we doing?

Success: Name change, first step, USA. (Didn't update resolutions while matters were still in limbo. Lesson learned: do not, not, NOT undergo a change of address while vital matters are still in the mail. Much panic.)
In progress: Final buttoned shirt fitting. Should have 1/6 wardrobe capsule by the end of the month, possibly 2 if I make a shirt-dress as well. Corset is nice but does not count as everyday wear.
Failure: Pants fitting. About to give up and go the one-seam, less fitted route. Dozens of "why didn't I try this earlier?!?!?!" reviews swaying me.

I got no grades below a B last spring, and same during summer classes. I did get A's in both of my German intensives.
I'm exercising regularly, and am back on weight watchers and losing some weight.
I still procrastinate, but apparently not enough to get lousy grades anymore.

1. Well, does substitute work count? <.<; still working on this.
2. Probably won't happen until next year, unfortunately.
3. Did not get any of that done.
5. Next semester, only one credit to go!

Total progress: 30% or so. :/

Edit: Oh right...and the kiss, I still need that. :smallfrown:

Soft Drink: Success
NaNo: Fail. However, I've managed to write a short recount that I'm quite proud of
TER: Mrm. Currently sitting on around 80? 3 Bs and 2 As. Can easily bring two of the Bs up to As, though the other B is in danger of dropping to a C. So, fairly on track, as long as I manage to keep studying.

I initially thought this thread was about screen resolution...

My (ever expanding) list of resolutions:

I really need to stop procrastinating.
I think I'll start on it around mid January.

1. I will out myself to my family by the end of the year: Nope. Getting there, but still stalling.

2. I will work as hard as I can to get medical help for my depression: Done. Dropped off the meds when the side effects proved more tiresome than the depression, but it seems the depression is taking a hiatus for now.

3. Read at least one new book a month, excluding all the ones I will read for college classes: Still blowing this one out of the park.

4. Be more proactive in my romantic pursuits: OMG. I can't believe this, but I actually can cross this one off mah list! =D <333

1. Pass the AF Fitness test, the old version and the new version - twice this year - Passed it once, one more time to go in December.

2. Eat less chocolate...at least 1 piece per day, less than 20 pieces per day - eating about 6 pieces per day. Still the same for this one.

3. Get rid of more of the junk laying around the house, one room at a time - need to work on this some more and yet still more work needed

4. In spring: grow more herbs and do my yard work in a timely manner - herbs are growing great, the chia sage is tall.

5. Avoid TEMPEST WARRIOR as much as possible - Already completed this one.

1. Get a job/get back into school.
2. Find a significant other.
3. Work out my mental issues.
1. I'm in school currently. Still unable to find gainful employment. Let's call this 1/2 done.

2. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaha. No.

3. See #2.

So... 1/6 done, give or take? Same as last time. :smallyuk:

Go to school - Well, this looks like it'll be happening.
Make a pie out of skittles - Not as yet. I'll try for this week.
Try to find some meaning in life - Yeah. I should fill a hat with all the ones I found.
Try to be less aggressive - I feel like I have. I notice myself stopping before I do something stupidly contrary more often.
Have less self-pity - Seems to be working, I'm down less often.
Practice guitar more often - By a small amount, yes. but I've got a lot to go here.

New resolution - Make better resolutions. :smallwink:

Eight months gone, four to go--how are we doing?

Success: Wardrobe capsule 1/6 (button-front shirt). Looks RTW now. Let's see how well it holds up to being washed (this fabric unravels something fierce).
In progress: New hairstyle has already grown out past the point of needing more shaping, which means it's a three-cuts-a-year style. Not saying enough to strangers, but saying more.
Failure: Further progress on name change; a moment of reflection is fine but a month extends too far.

1. I will out myself to my family by the end of the year: Mmmmmm nope. not yet.

2. I will work as hard as I can to get medical help for my depression: Careful with this. Feel like I am on the verge of another bout, so keeping an eye on it and planning to get help the moment it looks like it is back in full force.

3. Read at least one new book a month, excluding all the ones I will read for college classes: Ironically, having trouble with this one. Still getting it done, but I have less time to read lately.

4. Be more proactive in my romantic pursuits: Done Done Done!!!

Get a new desk calendar.
Continue my exercise routine.
Gain 10 pounds.
Eat my weight in calamari.
Pay off that loan I've been paying on for 2 years.
Add at least 3 new friends on Facebook who aren't family members.

SUCCESS!
FAIL! I got bronchitis in March and everything sort of ground to a halt. :smallsigh:
Dunno...haven't had a reliable means of weighing myself since May.
FAIL! I haven't eaten calamari since, probably, May. Probably too late to catch up now (and I doubt my new budget could afford the attempt).
SUCCESS! :smallbiggrin::smallcool:

Procrastinating is an issue again. I'm posting here instead of reading 100 pages of textbook assigned last Tuesday for tomorrow. Also I stopped dieting and started gaining weight again. Basically a typical start of a school year.
