The air surrounding you fairly hums with the residue of magic, an aftereffect of the spell that brought you to this place. A quick glance reveals that you are in a small room, devoid of any life save for yourself. The sound of dripping water can be heard faintly, and the stone walls are slick with moisture. In complete defiance of logic, a torch is already lit, resting in a sconce near the room's single door.

There is a door at C-4, south side.

Give me a list of your prepared spells, please.

The list of prepared spells is part of the sheet where there's numbers, but to clarify: 2x Silent portal, 1x Prestidigitation, 2x Lesser orb of fire, 1x Expiditious retreat, 1x Mage Armor, and 1x Continual flame.

I take 20 on searching the door for a result of 31.

Tanaric

It looks like a door. Nothing else.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 05:09 PM
I poke it with the 5ft pole, (10ft would've put me at medium load :smalltongue:) and if nothing happens, I attempt to cast Continual Flame on my torch ([roll0] DC8) and open the door.

[roll1]
[roll2]

Since the casting fails, I light it with the torch next to the door before opening the door. :smallwink:

Opening the door reveals a hall running to the east and south. To the south, it runs for thirty feet before teeing to the east and west. After twenty feet, it splits east.

To the east, it runs for eighty feet before turning south. After ten feet, it splits to the north and south. After thirty feet, there is a door on the north side of the hall. After sixty feet, it splits to the north and south. At the far bend, there is a door on the east side of the hall.

So:

two corridors, one south, one east.

South: 30ft: east + west + more south, 20ft: east
East: 80ft: south + more east, 10ft: north + south + more east, 30ft: door north, 60ft, north + south + more east, Dead End: door east?

If this is not the case, please clarify, English is not my native language so I get confused easily.

Tanaric

Sorry.

The east hallway runs a total of eighty feet before turning south. After ten feet, it goes north and south. After thirty feet, there is a door on the north side. After sixty feet, it goes north and south. At the end, where it turns south, there is a door on the east wall.

The south hallway runs a total of thirty feet before ending, and going to the east and west. Twenty feet down, it goes east.

Make more sense that way?

Lubirio

So:

two hallways, one east, one south.

East: 10ft: North + South + East, another 20ft: door North, another 30ft: North + South + East, another 20ft: South + door East.
South: 20ft: East + South, another 10ft: East + West.

If that's correct, I take my pole and shove it in front of me, taking 10 on all search checks (if I can, for a result of 21) before entering a square, and triggering any traps that I spot with the pole, and do this for every square, going to the first intersection to the east, moving 10ft.

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:05 PM
Correct.

At the intersection, you see that the hall continues north for twenty feet before turning east, and south for twenty feet before turning west. Fifteen feet to the south, there is a door on the east side of the hall.

Lubirio

I continue east in the same manner as before, and take 20 on searching the door to my north.

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:08 PM
Ten feet east, you poke the floor and it falls out, revealing a twenty foot deep pit.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 07:23 PM
So the hole is right in front of the door?

If it isn't, go back twenty feet, then take a running start to jump over it, taking ten on jump for a result of 10. I then stand in front of the door, take 20 on searching (for 31) if that doesn't yield anything, poke it, if nothing happens, open it.

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:26 PM
No. The pit is ten feet east of the north/south split. It is ten feet before the door.

You find nothing on the door. Poking it does nothing.

Opening the door reveals the following room:{table]|A_|B_|C_|D_|E_
1|||||
2|||||
3|||1||
4|||||
5|||||[/table]

There is a door at A-5, south side, which you are just outside of and another at E-1, north side. There is a remarkably ugly humanoid creature inside the room, its entire body covered in blue scales, with patches of darker blue in places. Flames flicker inside its mouth, tiny wisps of red and orange. His body is covered by burned and tattered robes that do little to conceal the chainmail beneath them.

Roll initiative.

[roll0]

Interesting... [roll0]

If I win init, I drop the pole and torch, move up to him (C4) while drawing the courtblade, and attack.
[roll1]
[roll2]

If I don't, well... I'll wait. :smalltongue:

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:36 PM
You walk up to him, and almost trip over your own feet attacking. :smallwink:

He breathes a short gout of acid on you, dealing [roll0] damage, reflex half, and entangling you for [roll1] rounds.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 07:42 PM
Acid damage I presume?

Half of 1 is still going to be 1, so I won't bother on the save.

I withdraw, moving out of the room and next to the pit, he gets no AoO

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:42 PM
You take [roll0] acid damage from the entangling substance. You hear the door slide shut.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 07:45 PM
I try to escape the bonds:
[roll0]

If fail, you can roll a couple and see how long it takes me...

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:50 PM
There isn't a method of escaping from this entanglement.

Next round, you take [roll0] acid damage.

The next round, you take [roll1] acid damage, and the entangling substance falls away.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 07:56 PM

I have 1HP left now. I cast two spells (Mage Armor, Silent Portal), then open the door again, hopefully earning me a surprise round, in which I launch a lesser orb of fire at the thing.

[roll0] vs. Touch (and FF?) AC
[roll1]

In any case (with or without surprise round): [roll2]

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 07:58 PM
I'll give you a surprise round. You land a solid hit with the orb.

Init: [roll0]

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 07:59 PM
Am I FF because I lose init, or am I not FF since I got a surprise round? (phew, I should've gotten tat 19 earlier)

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 08:00 PM
Flatfooted, unless you know of a rule regarding surprise rounds that I don't.

Have a fire breath. [roll0] fire damage, reflex half, entangled for [roll1] rounds.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 08:02 PM
I got fire resistance 5, so just entangled.

Same deal, withdraw to next to the pit...

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 08:05 PM
If you take no damage, you aren't entangled.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 08:10 PM
Aha :smallamused:, I draw my acid and flick it at him.

[roll0] vs. Touch AC, range increment not included
[roll1]

if miss, 1 Acid damage.

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 08:14 PM
Seeing the ineffectiveness of his fire breath, he moves up and breathes a short gout of acid on you again. [roll0] acid damage, reflex half, and entangled for [roll1] rounds.

Lubirio
2010-01-01, 08:19 PM
That's my end...

I've been thinking of a more viable character, I'll post it here when I'm done, mkay?

Tanaric
2010-01-01, 08:21 PM
Sure. Whitetext.

Lubirio

Sorry, mythweavers is dying on me, so I'll be making this character at thetangledweb.

Sorry for double post.

Do you know the song "I will survive"? That song is this guy (http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/profiler/view_char.php?cid=33318)'s motto, seriously. :smallamused:
