Is there a PrC that gives free still and silent spell? and by free I mean it gives you the ability to still and silence spells without raising their level, not give you the feats for free...

Aside from Incantatrix? Don't think so.

There are feats for lowering metamagicked spell levels, but they tend to get out of hand, depending on how many you take. If you intend to do this for only one spell, the easiest one is Arcane Thesis, since it allows you to lower the level adjustment on spells to +0 thanks to the poor RAW.

Level 10 of Illusion Master Specialist gives you that 3/day with Illusions. That's about the best you can get. Getting both metamagic costs to 0 is impossible AFAIK, since everything that reduces the costs of a metamagic feat itself specifies it doesn't go under 1 (Arcane Thesis specifies a spell and as such, isn't applicable and Metamagic School Focus is 3/day).

although you're probably looking for 3.5 i'll mention it anyway...

the arcane trickster from pathfinder gains the ability to make his spells silent and stilled a certain number of times per day.

You could take three feats for sudden silent and sudden still (plus a requirment), but that is 1/day.

...Why? I may allow Practical Metamagic to reduce them to 0, but...why?

IIRC the Force Missile Adept from Dragon Compendium had something about that but only applying to Magic Missile.

There are also the Epic feats that do that...

And I think Master of the Unseen Hand does it for the telekinesis spell, but don't quote me on that.

Oh, or look into Wu Jen, some of their spell secrets - or whatever they're called - can do that.

Practical Metamagic is only available to dragonbloods. Kind of a specific requirement.

Edit: Not mad at you, mad at WotC for making 2 things that are identical in all ways except prerequisites. Pick whichever is balanced and stick with it.

No reason to restrict it that way though. Might as well open it up, if you're already opening it for Still/Silent anyways. I do, since there's really no reason not to. If you REALLY want to take 4 feats to have all Still/Silent spells, have a blast.

I recall shadowcraft mage doing so for one of the metamagics.

If you cast almost all your spells as Silent Images, you can just Arcane Thesis that and get just the effect you want.

While I'm not sure what those feats do exactly, couldn't they be stacked since they're two different feats?

I could have sworn Easy Metamagic was a Dragon Magazine feat, and thusly was commonly banned. Practical metamagic gets around that by having annoying requirements, but actually being from a book players would use.

Runesmith 1 essentially allows you to replace all somatic components with a focus component.

Okay, you gotta be a dwarf and a prepared arcane caster, plus be able to get Armor Proficiency (heavy) somehow, but it can be done.

Geometer (CArc) can remove verbal and meterial components on spells.

Recaster (RoE) gets some Sudden Still/Silent uses.

Whispercast (LoM) lets you remove all components from spells of up to 5th level.

Dweomerkeeper (CDiv web enhancement) can cast spells as (Su) abilities.

Demilichs (ELH) cast all their spells without somatic components -pretty harsh requirements though.

*Note* I only have the 3.0 OA version in front of me. Keep this in mind in case something I say sounds stupid. They probably just changed the class. OTOH I might just be saying something dumb...

They only apply to one spell chosen when you get the ability and it must be a spell you know at the time. Also it says you use the same spell every time but I think thats wrong since it only gives you 5 secrets but you get the class feature 6 times...

SCM can silence them, but not still them. Nightmare Spinner does neither - its whole gimmick is making illusions scary.

Assuming you're reading that correctly, the 3.5 version is a bit improved - you may only apply the secrets to one spell at a time as you thought, but you are free to change the spell each time.

The wording is actually a bit confusing on this point - the exact quote:

Spell Secret: At 3rd level, and every three levels thereafter, a wu jen can choose one spell known to her that then becomes permanently modified as though affected by one of the following metamagic feats: Enlarge Spell, Extend Spell, Still Spell, or Silent Spell. The spell’s level does not change, and once the choice of spell and modification are chosen, they cannot be changed. As the wu jen goes up in level, she can choose the same spell to be modified in different ways with multiple spell secrets. She does not need to know the feat she applies to the spell.

The fact that it says she CAN choose the same spell multiple times, says to me that she doesn't have to.

Actually reading it again it still has the same wording. I was just reading too quickly...

Too bad you can't combine the Geometer and the Runesmith to eliminate both somatic and verbal components. Geometer replaces verbal and material compontents with a sigil that costs 25gp/spell level. Runesmith replaces somatic components with an additional material component (the rune) which specifically cannot be eliminated using feats or other abilies.

If I was DM'ing I'd consider it but RAW says they are incompatible. I really like the idea of a fighter1/wizard5/geometer5/runesmith5/eldritch knight4 as an armored dwarf wizard if it worked.

Or more accurately, Spell-to-Power Erudite.

Or more accurately, Spell-to-Power Erudite. As was pointed out to me in another thread, cStP Erudites still have verbal and somatic components to their "spells." I was surprised to see that, too, but it's in the text:

As with casting a spell, manifesting a spell may require certain components (see page 174 of the Player's Handbook). Some of the components remain unchanged, such as verbal, somatic, and XP cost.
Despite this crippling weakness :smallwink:, I am still willing to make the sacrifice and play a cStP Erudite. It truly is the least I could do.
