There is a old post of mine I need to find, so I check the "Find more posts by this user" thing, but the oldest post it shows is fairly new(From December 12th, 2009.) Is there a reason none of my 2008 and late 2007 posts are appearing?

Thread cleaneruppage. Think of it as spring cleaning and a big hoover sucking up some of our past posts.

I think, anyway.

"In order to improve server performance, we are announcing an upcoming purge of all threads in the Friendly Banter forum where the last post was earlier than December 31st, 2007. The purge is expected on or shortly after February 7th, 2009--one week later than the other purges announced, due to the the lateness of this notice."
I joined just a few days before 12/31/07, I need to find my 08 posts.

I've heard googling works sometimes.

I've heard googling works sometimes.

It was an avatar request post, I don't think it will show up.
I try googiling "Gamerkid 2008 posts" I get this (http://forums.lfgcomic.com/index.php?showuser=4840) :smallsigh:

EDIT: HOLY- I have a LOT of posts to look through (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Gamerkid+Giantitp+2008+post&start=90&sa=N&filter=0), this is going to take a while :smallannoyed: They aren't even in order. And a metric ton of them are 2009. It claims it has 16,900 results, I bet at least 70% of them aren't mine.

From google, use the term "site:http://www.giantitp.com/forums" and then whatever else you want to use to narrow down the responses. Just using your name and 2008 isn't likely to help. Can you remember anything else about the thread in general that might help narrow it down?

It was one of the avatar request threads, that is all I remember.

The forum search only finds/displays the first 500 posts that meet the search criteria. This would be why it's only finding your most recent 500 posts, and not all ~2000 posts.
If you perform a search for "Posts by User: gamerkid" and set it to "Find Post from: A Year ago and Older" you can find your posts from March to December of 2008. Alternately, setting it to "Sort Results by: Last Posting Date in Descending Order" will find your first 500 posts, from the day you joined to September '08.

The forum search function only displays up to 500 posts by a user, so finding old posts can be hard.

Unfortunately, there's no "find threads user has posted in" either.

While there may not be a button for it, you can use the search function to do that by setting it to "Find Posts by User" and "Show Results as: Threads".

True.

It might be listed here:

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/search.php?searchid=834755

although I'm not sure how long that takes to expire or anything like that.

Of course, that might have grabbed all of your last 500 posts and listed the thread, so it might not be the best way forward.

The forum search function doesn't display posts in threads (or the threads themselves) whose last post is older than about 6 months. Haven't a clue why.

I try googling "Gamerkid 2008 posts"

Problem bolded for emphasis--"posts" was WAY too broad a term, which will snag FAR more 'false positive' posts than it's worth. Putting in "2008" was a good idea though. (checks Keris Rain's link from "gamerkid 2008 avatar") Wow, that post was devoid of a fourth word to narrow the search. All very common words on this board.

Yes it does. :smallconfused:

All the "Last Post" dates are considerably older than 6 months. Check the "Thread Age Cut Off" setting in your User CP, that might be why you can't find them.

Well, was it? This (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4666287&postcount=9203) seems to be the only I found.

Sheriff: Let's let gamerkid reply before running a bunch more searches and posting about them here. The search function is resource intensive.

First look here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/search.php?searchid=834816&pp=25&page=2
Then searching for a thread with "tsusiko" in the title (for instance).

Or try a search for "nerfing wolverine". Found here: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3811041&postcount=8

Which reminds me of something I meant to bring up. In the past, there was a 2 minute waiting period between searches. Today, I noticed it had been reduced to 30 seconds.
Was there a reason for this reduction?

:smallconfused:For me it takes 120 seconds. I heard somewhere it has something to do with server strain
