You awaken in the center of a 10ft by 15ft room with stone walls, ceilings, and floors. A torch is burning on the wall behind you, while the other three walls have closed, metal doors with brackets allowing you to bar them from the inside. Unfortunately, only two metal rods are lying on the floor.

Sorel brushes himself off. He looks about the room, and pats himself down, seeing that nothing is missing.

He lets incarnum flow through him, manifesting his Incarnum Weapon and his Mantle of Flame.

He picks up the bars and bars the door to the East and the door to the South. He picks up the torch and opens the door to the north, looking into the room before entering it.

You enter a 10ft wide room, 30 ft long, with another wooden door on the far side. In the room is four kobolds(F1, E1, E2, C2). A small fire is flickering on the floor(D2)

Another swing, another kill.

The kobolds, shocked by the sudden assault, begin to fight back.

First, the far one, with the sling.
Sling: [roll0]

Then, the one in E1, with the spear.

Wow...nasty lil slinger.

You do, of course, get the bonus AC for being in melee.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-07, 11:07 PM
But, you hit me on a natural 20.

Should you just use the same damage roll instead of re-rolling damage for every critical confirmation?

Tyndmyr
2010-01-07, 11:37 PM
Right, so it still hits you, just no crit, and no additional damage.

By RAW, on crits, you roll the die again instead of doubling. That's generally a good thing for players, because it lowers odds of max damage anyhow.

That little kobold should be a sniper in some commando group with a tarrasque-slaying crossbow, not some spelunker with a little sling.

And what square is he in right now?

Tyndmyr
2010-01-08, 12:21 AM
C2....yeah, that little guy is lethal.

One PC actually managed to capture and diplomance the lucky little bugger. He's surviving the rest of the dungeon just fine, despite taking point. I have no idea how.

IncarnumJunkie

Sorry. Sorel isn't in a talking mood, and that Kobold did quite real damage to him.

Moving to D2 and attacking him.

The final kobold crumples, duly receiving his comeuppance for misdeeds in a past life.

+300 XP, and, presuming you'll loot the bodies, you'll find their standard weapons and armor, as well as 50 GP, a fine brass jug with jade inlays(valued at 100 GP), and a set off fullplate.

Damn good loot rolls for a CR 1 encounter. Only door remaining in this room is to the north.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-16, 08:23 PM
That I will loot them.

Unfortunately all of their weapons are Small sized, and that brings a -2 penalty to attack, but their weight should outweight the disadvantage (1/2 weight).

The sweetener about this whole encounter is the full plate ^^.

1.) How much does the jug weigh, or is that neglibible?
2.) Will an item sell for full gp value or half gp value?

Tyndmyr
2010-01-16, 09:02 PM
Jug? Eh, figure a pound, I guess. No biggie.

Items sell for half value, with the exception of gems and precious metals, which can be exchanged at will, being basically currency anyway.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-16, 09:11 PM
1.) So I can just exchange the jug for 100gp right now?

2.) How many Sling bullets do the Kobolds have total and how much would they weigh for a small sling (2lbs or less?)

Tyndmyr
2010-01-16, 09:39 PM
Nah, selling stuff, moneychanging, etc, all takes place when you reach town.

Each kobold has ten bullets(minus whatever were expended), and the bag of ten weighs 5lbs...srd has it as the same weight regardless of sling size.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-16, 09:52 PM
Sorel looks over the Kobolds he slew in a quick rush. 4 Kobolds slain. He took a pair of knocks to the head from a kobold with a sling, but that one was put down too.

He took the spears that the Kobolds carried--they were too small to be used effectively, but they could still cause some damage if they were thrown. He thought about the slings as well, but he decided against it--he would need two hands, and his shield was heavy.

He smiled as he donned the suit of full-plate armor. It would now be a considerably difficult task to break through his defences, especially with his Mantle of Flame to exact burning vengeance on anyone who strikes him. He was also pleased by the loot he found: a meager 50 gold pieces, but a jug that seemed quite valuable.

He left the scale mail he formerly wore neatly folded against a wall, as it was too heavy to carry with him and all his current equipment, but hoped to trek back and secure his gear again to sell it later.

He took up his torch again, and slowly opened the door on the other side of the room, peering into the room.

You send him to the kobold afterlife, hard on the heels of his compatriots. +75 XP. On the body, you find 1500 CP and a wand of summon monster 2(20 charges). Good loot roll, there.

Chest is now unguarded.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-16, 11:31 PM
Sorel goes to the chest and tries to open it.

Tyndmyr
2010-01-16, 11:34 PM
You find it both unlocked and untrapped, revealing a potion of CLW and 20Gp inside.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-16, 11:42 PM
NAAIIEECE! The CLW potion really helps!

Sorel takes the potion of Cure Light Wounds in his hand. He debates over using the potion or saving it for later. His wounds are not grievous, but he did take some nasty hits in the battle with the kobolds in the room behind him. He unstoppers the potion and drinks it, the distinctive licorice flavor of the potion reminding him how much he hated licorice. He felt his wounds begin to heal immediately.

He turns around and leaves the room with the chest, picks up his scale mail, and proceeds back to the room with the three doors. He places the scale mail on the floor neatly against a wall, and unbars the south door. He bars the north door and takes the torch.

The slowly opens the south door and looks inside.

Tyndmyr

Once you open the door, you see a short, narrow, unlit, hallway, five feet in width, and twenty in length. Just over halfway down, a door leads to the left, while at the end, another door leads straight ahead.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-17, 12:08 PM
Hmm...narrow hallway...no enemies or furnishings...

Certainly suspicious and most likely trapped...

How much does a kobold weigh?

Tyndmyr
2010-01-17, 01:00 PM
Well, they're pretty light, even for a small creature, so without digging out my copy of RoTD, I'd presume light enough to push around easily, but heavy enough to trigger any pressure plate that would normally trigger on small PCs.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-17, 04:20 PM
Crud. Having realized that Incarnates are not proficient in heavy armor I remove the Full Plate, place it against the wall with hopes of recovering it, and replace it with the Scale Mail. I then unbar the north door, bar the south door, grab the kobold bodies (stabbing each one to make sure that they are not some kobold Rasputin) and move them to the start room. Unbar south door, bar north door, open door, go to room.

This room has to be trapped, that is what I think. My solution, then, is to take the kobold bodies and throw them onto the squares until they do set off a trap (40lbs x5 = enough weight to set of a trap).

The first thing I do is throw the bodies, one at a time, onto L2, then dragging them back with the rope/grappling hook and throwing them onto L3, rinse and repeat until I set off a trap.

Tyndmyr
2010-01-17, 04:24 PM
You thoroughly search the room by desecrating the corpses of the kobolds, but no traps go off. The corpses are looking to be in pretty poor shape now, though.

OOC: Im absolutely amazed at how many uses have been found for kobold corpses so far...probably the most creatively used item in the dungeon.

IncarnumJunkie
2010-01-17, 04:34 PM
Well then, if the room is not trapped or anything (hopefully my use of the kobolds is a unique ocurrence), then I will carefully open the door to the south and look inside.

Scratch that. I am going to use my Detect Opposition ability and hopefully it will go through the door. (This functions as Detect Chaos)

Tyndmyr
2010-01-17, 04:42 PM
No chaos detected.

IncarnumJunkie

In the center of a 15ft square dark room, an lone kobold is standing, wearing nothing but a floppy cloth hat, which bears the word "Sorrc" on it. You also note another wooden door in the center of the east wall.

He is apparently expecting you, and begins to mutter arcane words.

Sorel sees the kobold, and makes a quick decision.

Sorrc. Sorceror.

He decides that a sorceror would need best use of his hands to cast spells, so he decides to make the kobold unable to use them.

Moving to N3 and initiating a grapple against the Kobold.

Tyndmyr
2010-01-24, 10:55 AM
Ah, that was the south door in O2, for some reason, that was the one I presumed you were opening.

Unexplored doors in the immediate area:

East door in kobold sorc room.
