It has been about a week since each of you was drafted to help protect the town of fallcrest. Given how small the town of Fallcrest is, it is doing very well at avoiding the damage you’ve heard of in other cities and towns around the world. A couple of portals have opened since you've arrived but the demons that came through posed almost no threat to the town. The people of the town attribute this to you five helping fight. As of now the town has been quiet for a few days and there has been no sign of another portal opening.
The Lord Waren has decided to send you as well as a few other of his patrol to help move some of the families that live outside of town, into the town to keep them safe should another portal open.

(you are just about to head out. you haven't had much time to interact yet so feel free to introduce your characters to each other)

"Very odd." Of all the soldiers to be drafted, they pick two Razorclaws. But Sangria was quite different from most Razorclaws. He stood upright, almost no hunch in his step. His clothes were finely crafted, nothing primitive or rough about them. And his short, oddly jagged cape is somewhat fashioned in an eccentric manner commonly wore amongst mages, yet he carries a bow on his back. Yet concealed beneath his quiver lies a magic rod, just sitting there. And at his side is a tiny kitten, running around his legs. It's odd itself, with a dark black body and red stripes, like a tiger. And occasionally the stripes shoot flames up. About five feet behind him, a large beast, resembling a bob cat with tufts of flame over it's body, stalks around.

As the soldiers gather and prepare to leave, he sketches their image into his little book.

Garret gathers his shield and scimitar. His shield is slung on his back, and his scimitar is in a scabbard underneath his shield. Both are in a position to be pulled out at a moment's notice.

Garret sees Sangria writing in a journal. Hello, friend mage! What is so important to write that it must be written now, right before battle?

Jinniya trailed behind the group, silently following in the back. Unlike the other razorclaw in the gathering group, she looked almost more beast than woman as she strode along with soft steps, crouched over as if ready to jump at the slightest sound. A long black staff in her hand provided a bit of support, and one got the feeling that without it she would likely fall over. Her bright amber eyes constantly moved between the others, but in particular between Sangria and his two companions. "Odd" was a very aptly chosen word, Jinniya thought.

Jinniya pulled herself up a little more straight, but remained silent. She looked forward to getting out in the open again, away from the crowds and people... most of the people anyway.

Though he had not been formally introduced, most of you have seen Baern around town, usually surrounded by a group of kids, mostly dwarf and human children, as he regailed them with fantastic tales. The stories of Ironbeard Olgaf, Diamond-eye the Wise, and other heroes and legends are soon repeated through the town. A couple of the kids follow Baern to the meeting spot, tugging at his sleees wanting a new story.

"No no, little ones. I have duties to take care of on my own. After all, no hero ever became a hero by sitting around and telling stories. No, I've got to go and write stories of my own. And when you are grown and your kids are little, you can tell them how ye knew the great Baern Coalbeard, eh."

He seems lightly armored for a Dwarf, only wearing leather. He wears a holy symbol to Moradin around his neck, often using his old spear as a walking stick. He leans on a nearby wall, puffing on his decorative pipe as he waits for the gathering to get underway. Its hard to tell his opinions as he looks over this new party, looking them over one by one.

After so long, Sangria can't help but chuckle. His voice is deep- frighteningly deep. "What a cute little swordsman." He comments. 'Cute' is a word you can guess rarely graces his lips. And you can also assume that he did not mean it as a compliment. Yet he's not aiming to be mean either.

The larger cat, Crymson, seems to be a bit needy, and rubs along the side of Sangria's leg- the flares of fire not affecting him. He reaches into his side pouch, and pulls out a piece of dried meat, and feeds it to the large cat. The smaller kitten crawls up his leg and to his shoulder, and he immediately feeds him a second, smaller piece.

The book he sketched in is safely tucked away in another pouch. "I am Sangria," he announces. "I am a very skilled huntsman." He points to Crymson. "That there is Crymson, he's also quite a hunter. We're a team-" the other cat starts pulling on his hair, and he yanks it off. "And this is Redd-" he smiles. "He's but a mere kitten."

A deep laugh at Baern's comment, then back to the look that could kill you. "Yes, actually, these are special breeds of 'hellcats', as it goes. Crymson is a Serronvian Hellcat, a special breed that lives in the mountains of the Serronvian Countryside, and Redd here is a Grecon Hellcat- he's just a kitten now, but he won't grow to be larger than a household dog when he's done." He smiles. "It is said that great devils capture these creatures and raise them to be great warriors to serve them as personal guards- but that's just a fairy tale."

When Jinniya approaches, he stares at her for a moment and then kinda chuckles at what she says. "I'm not sure about you Madame Huntress, but in some cities, I'm considered foul and unnatural spawn."

A muscular and tall goliath walked silently by the group as they talked amongst themselves. He was mostly covered in the hides and skins of various animals that head been roughly sewn together. Where his skin was exposed the others could seen gently swirling marks that appeared to wrap around his body in its entirety. Some of these marks reached up the back of his neck, traveled across the crown of his head and made a few vertical stripes down his face. He eyes appeared weary as his looked between the trees of woods, seemly uninterested in the words of his comrades. A large and wickedly curved sword hang loosely in his right hand.

Then he spoke, and it sounded as if rocks were being ground together: “Deh way ya go jo-king about make me think ya all aren’t takin this ‘ole dee-mon fighting business serious like. Least dats what I dink. But dats jist me. My name is Kavaki, don’t ya know, Kavaki Cliffgaurd. Been livin in dese woods for many years now. As you all are finishing your introductions to one another you notice the rest of the soldiers (about 10 others from the town gaurd) all ready to leave. The man leading you all is one of the sergeants of the regular gaurds of the town, Sergeant Gerdrand.
"All right everyone, we'll be moving out now. lets make this quick in case another of those demon holes decides to open up."

(later)
You've been traveling for almost an hour when you come into the sight of a couple small houses near some farming land.
As you approch the sergeant gives the orders for everyone to go alert the various people working about the farms and in their houses."we need to get them to the city...but we dont want to scare them into a panic. The farmers are not likely to know much about what is going on...being that it doesn't look like any portals have opened around here yet. Make sure they know you're here from the Lord Warden"

can everyone roll a perception(to find various people of the small farm.) as well as a diplomacy or bluff-which ever is higher for you-(to keep the towns people calm.) for me.

Sangria is a bit worried- it's not often he's in charge of watching over others. But he's being foolish, in his own mind, for he's letting his mind be clouded. And it takes a toll on his perception, as he's not paying too much attention.

Sangria hunches over. He is ready to hunt- like the old days. "You aren't worthy of my time." He says, choosing his foe as his quarry. "Now, feel the power of death upon you." Sneaking behind, Crymson gets behind the demon, and strikes, using his claws to rake into the demon's back. Sangria laughs as the demon cries in terror. (16 Damage)

Kavaki stoops to stop his head from bumping the ceiling. He finds himself a suitable chair to sit in while the others search the room. "Ahh it be nice to be sittin" He sighs. "So how long 'ave you bin livin' 'ere, Miss Eleanir?" He asks casually

sangria and jinnyia:
you both stumble upon a holy symbol much like the one you found on Gracia's body. this one though is made of bone, it looks much more worn as well

kavaki:

“my whole life…it's usually such a nice town to live in." she says "And how about you, fine warrior, where are you from?”

Kavaki shifts and lays his massive sword on his lap. "Ahh.. Well, bit of a long story. I be 'ailing from the Dawn-ferge mountains, out east like, ya know. Came down to Fallcrest when my tribe disa-peared 'bout 'leven years go. Bin livin 'ere ever since. Nice town. Pretty woods. I like it down 'ere"

Jinniya looks at the symbol and turns to Sangria "Think we should ask Eleanor 'bout this and th'other symbol?" Getting an idea she takes a closer look at the symbol, to see if she can sense any magic about it, or other objects in the room.

Arcana [roll0], and another in case a second is needed for other objects in the room [roll1]

Jinniya:
You think you may sense a small flicker of magic...but it also could have been your imagination. the possible flicker is so faint that you really are not sure.

As for other objects in the room, you can't sense anything else magical in Gracia's room.

Jinniya shrugs and takes the symbol before heading back to where Eleanor and the others are "We foun' this symbol. She also had another similar one on her. D'you know anythin' about'm?" she asks Eleanor

MoriHikari

Eleanor looks at the symbol. "mabye once or twice...never thought about it before though. thinking about it, the last time i saw it was a few days ago when she went to talk to a man here in town. She didn't say what for, just left." she says thinking back. "Is that symbol bad? Should I have been more worried about her going off on her own?"

"um...I think his name was Berio...I'm not sure where you'd find him...perhaps someone else in town would know. He's a newcomer from the a bigger town named...Hammerfast, I belive." Eleanor says dishing up some hot stew for everyone as she speaks.

because of lack of information none of you are really sure who your looking for at first, but asking around you're able to get a basic descprition of Berio.

Kavaki, Sangria
neither of you are able to Berio, just a few people matching the description you recived

Jinnyia, Baern
you two manage to track down a fellow who matches the description you recived, and you're almost positive its him. He is currently sitting outside a house in the upper quays of the city. he seems deep in thought and hasn't noticed you.

Baern hands his spear off to Jinniya,"Hold this for a minute or two., would ye. No need to walk up armed like a porcupine, eh?"

He walks over to the lost-in-thought man and settles into a lean against the wall next to him, staring out at the same space he is. Its hard to believe whats befalling this town. Demon portals and all. Can't say I've ever seen anything like that."

Berio thinks for a moment before answering. "As far as I know she is a very minor goddess of truth. She has a few worshippers in my hometown of Hammerfast, and not many more anywhere else."

Shardan
2010-05-09, 05:07 PM
Baern produces the symbol we found earlier. "And is this what her symbol be? Simple and basic. Muchwhat I would expect from a Goddess of truth."

MoriHikari
2010-05-09, 10:32 PM
"Yeah that is her symbol." Berio says. "I wonder though, why are you asking about Gracia? she was killed by the demons that came out of the portal. wasn't she?"

Shardan
2010-05-10, 09:06 AM
Baern nods to berio. He takes his pipe out and lights it, taking a leisurely puff at it before continueing. "we were hoping that if we could find a pattern in the attacks, we could stop the next one. Something of this power doe not happen by chance. If she was the true target of the attack, I thought this symbol may be why. " He hmms a moment more. "do you know any of the other victims, perchance?"

MoriHikari
2010-05-10, 12:12 PM
"As far as I know, there haven't been any other victims here in fallcrest yet, and if there have been, I didnt know them." Berio says shaking his head. "I wonder what she was doing out and about? most people are staying indoors because of the portals. I hope you and your comrads are able to find what you need, and if I can help in any way just let me know."

Jinniya approaches, having listened in from afar. She nods at Berio, trying to be as friendly as her wild looks will allow "Maybe she too thought t'find the source of these demons and their portals. Wouldn't seem a strange thing for someone worshipin' a goddess of truth t'do."

MoriHikari
2010-05-12, 02:37 PM
"It's possible by what very little I've seen of her worshippeers."

Berio thinks for a moment before speaking again. "I think today just after the demons attacked, after Gracia had been killed, there was a man wandering around. He was clearly drunk and was talking to people about Gracia. I didn't hear what, I didn't really pay any heed to him at all, but it might be worth a shot." Berio ponders again. "I belive he can be found in the lucky gnome taphouse at this time of day...or any time of day recently. Alabast is his name if I remeber correctly. He may be able to tell you something, seeing as he thinks he knows so much about everyone. can't promise anything he says will be of value... I do wish I could help more."

As you all head into the tavern you easily find the man called alabast. He is at the counter angrily demanding a drink from the barkeep.

First alabast looks over at Jinniya. "Indeed they are dangerous times, thats why I see it as the best time to drink. who knows if you'll ever get the chance again. besides I'm not sure I had any wits to begin with so whats the use of keeping them" he says with a hearty laugh.
Next he looks at Kavaki. "Eh, I've got nothin' at home worth going home to. I dont even have to run my shop now 'cause the people are to scared to go out shopping. Smart as staying home is, its a bit bad for buisness. Just ask Kelson here" he says pointing at the barkeep. "Something tells me that you didn't come here to chat idily though." Alabast says a bit more seriously, studying your group carefully.
