View Full Version : Has anyone/would anyone ever tried to play a "forum all-stars" campaign?

For example, a party made up of:

Fistbeard Beardfist
Haberdash the Masked
The Mailman

etc. etc. etc.

Obviously, this wouldn't work with, say, Pun Pun or Cindy running around, but could be kind of a fun game. I personally don't/wouldn't usually use a build someone else designed, but for this sort of a campaign it could be a blast.

Anyone done this? Any other "famous" forum characters that should/would be in the party?

Saph's Horizon Tripper has a place here, I think.

The Mailman isn't ours, I thought? Do include the Flaming Homer though.

No, but I've heard of an idea to get them to do an Ocean's 11 style caper where they simultaneously steal the pact primeval from Mechanus, Celestia, and Baator.

I feel like that needs to happen. Desperately.

Pharoh's Fist produced a nice little quote summing it up in one of the threads about Asmodeus last year. It got sigged once or twice but now I can't think of how to find it.

The Cube needs to be in this too, though that's almost cheating.

Can we include the Flaming Exalted Chicken Thrower and Chuck the Ruby Knight Windicator* as recurring minor antagonists?

The Cube and/or a thinly veiled Emperor Tippy could be in as powerful NPCs they have to deal with. The Cube definitely would have a place on Mechanus. While we're on powerful things, the Omnicaster (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3945177) might be amusing to have around.

You could throw the Giamonk in, too.

Just laughed hysterically at this. Awesome.

though the pcs in one of my gamed did run into "Fistbeard the Pirate" Using the fistbeard idea and combining it with the attitude of the Crust brothers from the Malazan Books of the Fallen.

Anybody have links to the Cube, Emperor Tippy, or the Exalted Flaming Chicken Thrower? I haven't seen those builds before.

Anyone else who should be on the team? Some sort of token Elf?

Well, I think the precise build of the Cube is a secret, due to it being used in ToS (an arena type of thing). Dunno about the others.

I have a cunning plan. It involves Epic Magic, a Wizard/Master Specialist/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil, a Druid/Master of Many Forms/Planar Shepard, a Sorcerer/Mindbender/Incantatrix/Fatespinner, a Ninja/Swashbucker/Dread Pirate, a Kobold Cloistered Cleric with the Kobold domain/Pun-Pun Knight Vindicator, Bard/Warweaver, a Shadowcraft Gnome, a Hulking Hurler, a Witchalock Witchalock, Fistbeard Beardfist, two tweezers, 15 ounces of oil, the Pope, and a dull penknife.

I believe that says it all.

How about a Mod?

Are you kidding? Do you know how OP of a build Master Modder is?

They have Red Text of Doom as an At-will! Instant counters to any flame damage! Heck, they can even exile anything from the world with a single cast of Banhammer! Plus a +50 bonus to awesomeness!

And that's nothing close to the Giant!

SurlySeraph

The Cube is secret, yeah. It is known primarily for being unkillable. The Exalted Flaming Chicken Thrower disappeared in the Gleemax archives destruction, but similar builds are describedhere (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103915). Emperor Tippy is not a build, but a forum poster; he is known primarily for a) illustrating the myriad ways in which Wizards are obscenely powerful, especially at epic levels, and b) proposing what's come to be known as the "Tippyverse," a social and economic framework that would logically result from the abilities that Wizards have in DnD. The nice part of the Tippyverse is that it's a post-scarcity society. The bad part is that everyone who isn't a Wizard has Mindrape cast on them at the first sign of insubordination, all the Rogues are executed as potential threats, and things get more Orwellian from there.

I don't know as much about Algernon as Doc Roc and the longtime Test of Spite-ers do, but from what I do know he can give the entire party the benefits of Time Stop and is nigh-unkillable.

Make the BBEG an optimized Wizard.

Wouldn't the BBEG be a monk, due to the general dislike for the class? He would have to have immunity to ToB though...

A Monk/Druid or Monk/Psychic Warrior would make a formidable opponent, but they're not exactly heavy on the Monk. I think the Joker Bard should be the one to hold BBEG status.

I agree that the Joker Bard is most fitting, but a lot of what's special about that build is lost if the player's know it's coming. He's still hard to counter, but the chaos and confusion he reaps before people know what he's doing is what really makes him special, I think.

I'd offer to do it, but I lack the DM experience. I'd be happy to help organize it/plan it, though.

One probably totally unfeasible but otherwise awesome suggestion for DM: What about the Giant?

I'd offer to do it, but I lack the DM experience. I'd be happy to help organize it/plan it, though.Same here; I have plenty of adventure and dungeon ideas that I've never put to use on account of the fact that I don't feel capable of DMing.

One probably totally unfeasible but otherwise awesome suggestion for DM: What about the Giant? That would be pretty damn awesome, I agree, but the reason it is unfeasible is because The Giant does not do things like that; he only does posts and tries to respond and interact with the forum-goers as little as possible. Or at least that's what I've gathered. The Giant doesn't do forums. Disregarding the starting of Oots discussion threads and posting about fixes in the comic, and very, very rare exceptions.

Yeah, I kinda figured... and who knows if the various authors (Person Man, Fist, etc.) would even be interested in playing in the first place...

Still, it's an awesome idea and I for one would actually be interested in reading along if it ever actually happened.

Yo,

I started running a game on these very forums a few months ago.

It never really got off the ground because I vastly overestimated the amount of free time I would have, and underestimated how much time it would actually take to DM a game over the boards.

This was the advertisement back in the Looking for characters board

WARNING: Chapter 33 is classified "Nonexistent" pursuant to Chapter 33, Paragraph 4, Sublcauses A-T "Classification of Documents in the Fraternity of Law." Unauthorized reading of any reference to Chapter 33 is a crime under Chapter 33 of the Fraternity Charter and Sigilian law. The Penalties for reading any reference to Chapter 33 of the Charter is immediate expulsion from the Fraternity of law and sister agencies (the Harmonium, Mercykillers), forfeiture of all Fraternity resources, immediate incarceration, memory extraction, and execution. If you are reading this notice without proper authorization, inform a Factor or higher level official for processing.

Under Chapter 33, Section 17, Paragraph 5(E) of the Charter of the Fraternity of Law, "Establishment of officially unrecognized and unauthorized organizations within the Fraternity of Law," Factol Hashkar hereby authorizes the establishment of the "Loophole closing task force."

The mission of the Loophole closing task force shall be:

1. Identification of Non-fraternity groups and individuals exploiting loopholes in the observed rules of the multiverse.

2. Assessing the possible threat of groups and individuals identified in the course of the primary mission;

a. To the Fraternity itself
b. To the overall goals and mission of the Fraterrnity
c. To the multiverse itself.

3. Neutralizing groups and individuals identified as threats,

4. Threats to the overall integrity of the Multiverse are the primary concern to the Task Force, and should be dealt with immediately, using any means necessary, without the need for authorization. Previously observed threats of this nature include:

a. Mimetic threats: Easily replicatable wormholes which only require informing other individuals of the possiblity to replicate.
b. Infinite Loops: Abusing the cyclical nature of the multiverse to produce arbitrarily high levels of power.
c. A "Pun-Pun" scale event.

5. All other threats require the authorization of Factor or higher to neutralize.

Section Two: Composition:

1. All members of the Loophole Closing task force shall be selected from loyal members of the Fraternity of Law, the Harmonium, and the Mercykillers. Exceptions to this policy only allowed by the express authorization of the Factol.

2. No member of the Loophole Closing task force may ever leave their faction, nor shall they be able to carry on duties not relating to the task force while assigned. All individuals choosing to leave their faction while assigned to the Task force shall be considered unauthorized possessors of classified knowledge, and will be dealt with in accordance with Chapter 33 of the Fraternity of Law Charter.

Section Three: Expeditionary Force:

2. The Task force shall have a Loophole Closing Expeditionary Force whose primary purpose is carriying out threat neutralization outlined in Section 1 Paragraph 4 and 5 of this document.

a. The expeditionary force shall be composed of between four and six individuals, as resources allow.
b. Expeditionary force members shall be supremely competant in all activities which may be neccessary for the neutralization of loophole-abusing individuals and groups.
c. Pursuant to Section 2, Paragraph 2(b) of this document, all individuals in a Loophole Closing expeditionary force shall be required to have a Sponsor of Factor rank or higher, who vouches for their skills, experience, and loyalty.
d. All members of a Loophole closing expeditionary force shall disavow all association with the Fraterniy of Law when interacting with individuals not authorized to know of the Task Force.

3. The Expeditionary force shall keep detailed notes on the nature and usage of all neutralized loopholes.

tl;dr version: A Planescape game where the characters work for the Lawful Factions tracking down individuals that exploits loopholes in the rules in order to stop them. A villain using the Cancer Mage \ +str and +armor combo from BoVD was going to be the first main villain. It would go from there.

I've still got the campaign notes if anyone wants to run with that.
