I think that having the serpent cast at its full HD makes it slightly overpowered, given its other abilities. Also, the bugbear should have a rend attack. All very excellent.

Well, the serpent is a barely reskinned lilend azata (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/monsters/azata.html#azata-lillend). I switched some of its spell-likes for others of the same level and dropped the bard song and bard casting for sorcerer casting. I was hesitant about it being a touch strong for CR 7.

I can't give the bugbear rend, as that requires having natural attacks. Giving it a natural attack however.... *ponders*

Claws, yes. Make it feel more like a demon-bugbear. I'd have them do comparability little damage. You're just in it for the rend, and it gives them a reason to use melee weapons on occasion.

I think that sorcerer casting is quite a cut above bard casting plus bard song. Its the sorcerer's specialty, whereas for the bard its just one of many tricks. I'd lower the caster level, or just expand the spell-like abilities.

Okay, I think I am going to drop the Serpent Oni's casting to sorc 4 or 5.

I'll add a pair of claw attacks to the bugbear, but since it is statted to use a morningstar/shield, they probably won't see much use barring the beast getting disarmed or sundered.

Edited changes in.

Equipment choice is really up to the DM. Its pretty easy to give a bugbear a greatsword, for instance, rather than a morningstar, or clad him in full plate. Not that you can't specify a racial preference, if that's what you're suggesting.
