What spells are there that can create total darkness? As in no illumination, blocks line of sight, darkness?

I seem to recall a cantrip called Darklight (BoVD IIRC) that MAY create total darkness but I am not sure.

Darkness (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/darkness.htm), regardless of what the RAW might say.

Despite the best idiotic logic-chopping efforts of WOTC's rule chimps we all know what the spell does: it radiates reified darkness that negates darkvision, normal illumination and light spells of equal or lower level in the AofE.

You. Can't. See. It's. Pitch. Dark. (the clue is in the material components)

The cantrip in the BoVD is called No Light. Darklight is a higher level spell that is more useful if your party doesn't have Darkvision. No Light shuts off all light sources within a set range. Torches still burn, but shed no light at all if that spell affects them. At least, IIRC. I know the spell's name and level, but the full effect eludes me.

You could try Darkness (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells---final/darkness) or Deeper Darkness (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells---final/deeper-darkness) from pathfinder. It downgrades the light levels in the area. Depending on the current light level it will completely shut out all light.

Could you create an illusion of darkness?

^ On that note, could you, say Silent Image the surroundings, so all they see is the surroundings, and not you?

Mass Invisibility as a lvl 1 spell (or 0 for gnomes). Will save or Mass Greater Invisibility (cause if they fail... they STILL don't notice you're there, whacking them).

Silent Image a "sack" over the enemy. Will save or be blinded.

Illusion that says you can make things seem there when they're not, cannot make things seem not, when they're there, unless it says so.

That said? Blacklight, IIRC.

Yeah, Blacklight from the SpC does what you're looking for. A sorc I'm playing uses it as a kind of combat invisibility since less things can see through darkness than can see invisible stuff.

Fog Cloud/Obscuring Mist also work well, esp when coupled with Blindsight.

Any effect which Blinds your opponent?

Other than things that can see through magical darkness, Blacklight effectively renders anyone inside its radius blinded, the beauty being the caster is capable of seeing normally inside the spell's radius.

EDIT: Misinterpreted the above's comment.

It's a power, not a spell, but Control Light (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/controlLight.htm) can create total darkness. Requires concentration, but for a first level power, it's not bad.

I believe the cantrip from the Book of Vile Idiocy Darkness creates darkness which can only been seen through via darkvision. Combine with a ring of the darkhidden (invisible to darkvision) for 2000 gp?

Invisibility in cantrip-form.

Just make sure YOU have darkvision...

Cant see it's pitch dark means that it should give out total concealment, no ?

That material component is just fluff.

Should I say that my wizard's fireball smells like feces and nauseates those in it's AoE if they fail a save just because the material component is bat guano ?

I've always been bothered that the spell Darkness acts like a blacklight myself.
