View Full Version : [D&D 3.5]Types of damage

Ok, basically I'm building a Flash app to calculate damage and attack automatically.
It's going well, but I want to make sure I have the most complete list of damage types possible, and right now, I really feel like I am missing some. This is what I have:
Fire
Cold
Electricity
Acid
Positive Energy
Negative Energy
Piercing
Bludgeoning
Slashing
Force
Sonic
Divine
Untyped
Vile
Non-Lethal
I feel like it is far from complete. So I am turning to you Playgrounders, what are the types I am missing?
Edit: Added the types named in the responses.
Edit2: I also forgot to say, I only want damage types that can be done by a weapon that targets HP (there you go ozgun92 :smallwink:), including if they are enchanted by a spell. Sorry I should have said so before!

Also, I see you didn't put in Falling damage - you should, it's a kind of damage you can find in PHB & SRD even.

You forgot one of the main types.
Non-Lethal.

Boiling water deals 1d6 points of scalding damage
Damage from temperatures above 90 degrees F is nonlethal, then either untyped, heat, or fire, depending on your DM's ruling.
Lava is technically untyped but fire resistance applies.

Yeah, I don't think I will add it. Too specific, and if really nothing has "City resistance" it's better off left untyped.
Falling and scalding and those kinds of damage I will not add to the list, since I'm looking for damage types a weapon can deal.

Edit: I'm still not sure a weapon can deal positive or negative energy damage. Can anyone confirm?

Don't forget the all important Fiat damage! Caused by: Brick Lightning, Rocks Falling, DMPC, etc.

Do you count Spellstoring weapons' stored spells? If not, you're looking at a good reduction of types in there.

Hellfire is Untyped, rather than its own category. I'd actually call 'Typeless' 'Untyped' instead, it sounds a bit better.
Poison damage is sometimes considered its own damage type, in the instances where it deals HP damage.

Nah I won't. This can be rolled by the player when the spell is activated.
I'll change Typeless to Untyped and remove Hellfire from the list.

That should remove Divine from list - the only way I know of to deal Divine damage is by spells.

I believe there is drowning damage included in the description of water traps in my Dungeon Master's guide. [3.0]

Should probably have this as a flag, as opposed to a damage "type". Because you can have "subdual fire damage". In fact, vile might be the same, not too familiar with that though.
