*Warning! Walls of text the size of the Mt. Everest. I had to trim down to just avoid the 50,000 character limit*

So the gist of my questions are: what were some fatal mistakes I made, what could I have done better, how well did I handle the fight. Due to character limit I can only post match 3 (me vs monk). Also, can anyone help identify what was the monk's "wall" friend in terms of monster/template/race? A monk that deals STR damage on a hit = :frown:

Noteworthy things for the monk:
-3.0 feat called Knock-Down (also from Sword and Fist) that lets hm trip whenever he deals over 10 damage total in melee
-Bracelet of Friends (which was his trump card)

Disclaimer: This is inaccurate of how I play in the actual campaign. I don't abuse my spells. I mainly do Blasting damage; it's rare to use my more powerful spells except on bosses or dangerous enemies. Since it IS an arena type battle, pulling out all the stops was the only way to go.

I'll spoiler what happened, but to say the least, I was shocked and scared at what I was able to do in the first match (killed both of them with help of them attacking each other a couple times; made it out alive with 19 HP on my druid), and disappointed in the 3rd match because DM help/fiat came into play: Using a Bracelet of Friends to summon a monk friend (from the DM's campaign) stronger and tougher than him. But a funny thing is he described his friend as a "wall", and the first thing that came to my mind was Balrog: http://th07.deviantart.net/fs6/300W/i/2005/096/7/c/Cave_Story__Balrog_and_Misery_by_greliz.jpg

*Before anyone comments: Character level is 9. Yes I forgot to keep taps on my level 5 buff spell, because I didn't think it'd take longer than 9 rounds. I forgot to add in HP healed from Wildshaping. Yes we all forgot Entangle ever existed after it was casted.*

Dungeon Master*(10:36:41*PM): So, now then... Shippo vs Karma?
Dungeon Master*(10:36:48*PM): Or Volvagi vs. Shippo?
Monk*(10:37:17*PM): Flip a coin, Shippo?
Druid*(10:37:38*PM): 1 = *Monk*; 2 = *Duskblade*
Druid*(10:37:41*PM): //roll-dice1-sides2
OnlineHost*(10:37:41*PM): Druid rolled 1 2-sided die:* 1
Monk*(10:38:04*PM): Guess it's me then.
Druid*(10:38:06*PM): Well, it's been nice knowing ya Karma. Time to die to the clone.*
Monk*(10:38:15*PM): Oh?
Dungeon Master*(10:38:15*PM): Dun dun duuuun~
Monk*(10:38:22*PM): Setting, Cow?
Dungeon Master*(10:38:45*PM): We shall have it in a Bar room!
Dungeon Master*(10:39:01*PM): Space: 40 ft apart!
Druid*(10:39:57*PM): //roll-dice1-sides20
OnlineHost*(10:39:57*PM): Druid rolled 1 20-sided die:* 18
Druid*(10:40:02*PM): 19
OnlineHost*(10:40:06*PM): Monk rolled 1 20-sided die:* 18

Dungeon Master*(10:40:44*PM): lol
Dungeon Master*(10:40:54*PM): *Monk* starts again...
Druid*(10:41:12*PM): *Wishes I took Improved Initiative*
Monk*(10:41:19*PM): Now... start off the same way as always... Cat's Grace potion as usual... and then let's whisper a little something into the bracelet. Then take a defensive stance.
Monk*(10:42:03*PM): Oh, and Dodge as well.
Monk*(10:42:57*PM): That'd be my turn, yes.
Druid*(10:43:12*PM): After last match's fiasco, I know better now than to just start small.
Druid*(10:45:17*PM): Nature's Favor (Swift), shared Longstrider (Standard). Back off 40 feet with both characters.
Druid*(10:45:41*PM): hmm wait
Druid*(10:46:56*PM): Bite of the Weretiger (what was I thinking?)
Druid*(10:47:04*PM): anyway, end
Monk*(10:47:16*PM): Oh, you're going to like what comes next...
Dungeon Master*(10:48:22*PM): Smoke pours out of the ground as it begins to take form beside Volvagi...
Dungeon Master*(10:48:39*PM): eventually condensing into the form of... a wall?
Druid*(10:49:05*PM): Ahhhhhhhhhh it's the killer wall of doom!
Monk*(10:49:05*PM): "Ah, so glad you could come to my aid." I throw a silly grin on my face.
Monk*(10:49:14*PM): It really is.
Dungeon Master*(10:50:10*PM): "Bawa bawa bawa~" says the wall, wiggling around a little bit, as it's arms and head pop out "Surprised? huh? huh?"
Monk*(10:50:52*PM): "Hey, buddy~ see the little man over there? His teddy is lonely and needs a hug~ won't you hug the teddy?"
Druid*(10:51:01*PM): "A-a-a-a....... tangentible shadow?"
Druid*(10:52:15*PM): "I don't know who you are, monk, or what kind of sorcery is this. This is madness."
Druid*(10:52:24*PM): Spellcraft check for the hell of it?
Monk*(10:53:05*PM): A cheeky grin and a tilted brow are your only answers... >:3
Dungeon Master*(10:53:36*PM): brb
Monk*(10:54:35*PM): Same.
Monk*(10:54:44*PM): Excuse me while I laugh myself to death.
Druid*(10:55:17*PM): `.`

Monk*(10:56:06*PM): ...will be your next expression.,
Druid*(10:56:20*PM): I really wonder why you nevber used that bracelet in the campaign. A gift from Merz or something?
Monk*(10:56:31*PM): That's my secret~
Monk*(10:56:38*PM): You don't deserve to know.
Dungeon Master*(10:56:39*PM): "Teddy~!" the wall squeals with a child-like delight as it charges, the ground trembles under it's weight as it jumps to hug mistah Bear
OnlineHost*(10:56:49*PM): Dungeon Master rolled 1 20-sided die:* 14
Dungeon Master*(10:57:04*PM): Well, that's definitely a hit.
Druid*(10:57:09*PM): ((is that "thing" a summon, or an actual person thing?))
OnlineHost*(10:57:18*PM): Dungeon Master rolled 1 10-sided die:* 5
Dungeon Master*(10:59:36*PM): Bearsy takes 14 damage
Dungeon Master*(10:59:47*PM): and is currently under a 450 lb. wall
Monk*(10:59:55*PM): :-D HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Monk*(11:00:06*PM): And now for MY go!
Druid*(11:00:07*PM): What does it take to get rid of that wall?

Druid*(11:00:37*PM): No
Monk*(11:00:41*PM): Curses.
Druid*(11:00:56*PM): What does it take to lift the wall up?
Monk*(11:01:09*PM): A massice STR score.
Druid*(11:01:39*PM): Is it a STR check, or is it determined by Overhead weight, or w/e weight?
Dungeon Master*(11:01:48*PM): Weight mostly
Monk*(11:02:03*PM): Methinks you don't have enough.
Druid*(11:02:36*PM): What kind of weight, Cow? Light/Medium/Heavy Load? Overhead weight? Off Ground? Drag/Push?
DimitriDarkFate*(11:03:02*PM): lift overhead if it's on top of you
Druid*(11:03:24*PM): Bearsy's Overhead weight number is 2,800 pounds...............
Dungeon Master*(11:04:05*PM): Off Ground, I'd Suppos
Druid*(11:04:14*PM): 5600 pounds..........
Dungeon Master*(11:04:21*PM): m'kay
Druid*(11:04:23*PM): You want push/drag?
Druid*(11:04:25*PM): ^^
Monk*(11:04:34*PM): We can extrapolate that weight.
Dungeon Master*(11:04:34*PM): so you can still get up with the wall hugging your bear
Dungeon Master*(11:04:36*PM): :-P
Druid*(11:04:53*PM): Bearsy lifts the wall away?
Dungeon Master*(11:04:57*PM): Volvagi still has to make his move
Druid*(11:04:58*PM): Can she do anything else?
Druid*(11:05:04*PM): no, there's still my move
Druid*(11:05:18*PM): wall was on Bearsy. Volvagi was on me
Dungeon Master*(11:05:21*PM): No, it went Wall, then Volvagi, then you and Bearsy.
Monk*(11:05:29*PM): I charged and missed.
Dungeon Master*(11:05:29*PM): Wait. Did Volvagi make his move?
Dungeon Master*(11:05:32*PM): ah

Monk*(11:38:10*PM): WHEN>!
Druid*(11:38:55*PM): Druid (11:20:34 PM): 54 dmaage total (2+8+2+5*** natural weapon damage; 9 from Nature's Favor stacking 3 times, 6 from Power Attack, 18 from STR from both paws hitting, 4 STR from the bite)

Monk*(11:40:45*PM): Wha...?
Monk*(11:41:20*PM): That's 44 + 25.
Monk*(11:41:47*PM): != 79... = 69.
Dungeon Master*(11:41:55*PM): lol
Druid*(11:41:56*PM): No. That's 54 + 25

Druid*(11:43:29*PM): I entered and re-entered the first attack 3-4 times.
Dungeon Master*(11:43:36*PM): wait, now i'm getting 54...
Monk*(11:44:08*PM): Seriously?
Dungeon Master*(11:44:10*PM): Well, in that case, the wall is changing it's actions.

Dungeon Master*(11:45:55*PM): 10 10 18 16
Druid*(11:46:01*PM): Mind if I ask what is theat bracelet after this is over?
Dungeon Master*(11:46:04*PM): 10 10 10 10 8 6
Druid*(11:46:21*PM): I have no idea what is going on with all the numbers Cow.* o.o
Dungeon Master*(11:46:35*PM): Anyways, like I said, in that case, Wall is changing it's actions
Druid*(11:47:00*PM): an action that requires 15 number? o.o
Druid*(11:47:15*PM): Fascinating
Dungeon Master*(11:47:21*PM): Hmm? No
Monk*(11:47:23*PM): Quiet, and let him work.
Dungeon Master*(11:47:27*PM): I was showing my math for *Monk*
Druid*(11:47:32*PM): *twiddles thumbs*
Dungeon Master*(11:47:35*PM): It pours two things down Volvagi's throat
Dungeon Master*(11:48:04*PM): Turning the monk Invisible and... somthing else
Druid*(11:48:33*PM): Waaaait a minute. The wall.............. I knew it sounded familar. Is it:** http://th07.deviantart.net/fs6/300W/i/2005/096/7/c/Cave_Story__Balrog_and_Misery_by_greliz.jpg******* ** ???
Monk*(11:49:14*PM): I think Balrog is more... TV-like.
Druid*(11:49:21*PM): Still wall-like
Monk*(11:49:31*PM): This is an actual wall.
Druid*(11:51:11*PM): Can I cast Entangle in the bar?
Monk*(11:51:30*PM): I don't think it's large enough... unless you wanna get caught too...?
Druid*(11:52:46*PM): I'll take it, if it means making sure you die since it's got to entangle you somehow. Unless Woodland Stride helps on that.
Druid*(11:53:00*PM): Yeah I'll do that.
Druid*(11:53:25*PM): Bearsy let's loose another Bear barrage
Monk*(11:53:27*PM): Okay, but it's MY turn now...
Monk*(11:53:30*PM): Isn't it?
Dungeon Master*(11:53:34*PM): Indeed
Monk*(11:53:35*PM): The wall just went.
Druid*(11:53:49*PM): oh, thought you were out for the turn
Dungeon Master*(11:53:56*PM): nope. He's back up
Monk*(11:53:59*PM): It goes Wall, Me, You.
Druid*(11:54:08*PM): okay
Monk*(11:54:58*PM): You don't hear anything other than a few strained grunts and a sigh... what with being invisible at all.
Dungeon Master*(11:55:24*PM): eeewww...
Dungeon Master*(11:55:28*PM): Dirty, dirty monk
Dungeon Master*(11:55:33*PM): Shippo's turn
Monk*(11:55:40*PM): And there's a white stain under Shippo's foot.
Dungeon Master*(11:55:44*PM): WALL uses HARDEN!!
Monk*(11:55:46*PM): Roll a gross-out check.
Dungeon Master*(11:55:48*PM): *Ting*

Dungeon Master*(11:59:40*PM): Miss, Miss, and miss
Dungeon Master*(11:59:51*PM): by quite a good margin
Dungeon Master*(12:00:19*AM): And I make a reflex to avoid entanglement, right?
Druid*(12:00:20*AM): did you rolled a reflex save for both the wall and yourself?

Druid*(12:05:32*AM): wait, I screwed up on my AC. It's 24, not 22. Does that matter in any of the hits made?
Druid*(12:05:48*AM): hold on, double checking raptor form ac
Dungeon Master*(12:06:24*AM): Not really
Druid*(12:06:35*AM): yeah. I had 3 as my armor, but forgot to change that to a 5 since raptors get +5 natural AC (so I gained 2 ac)
Monk*(12:06:46*AM): Regardless, the first thing Shippo sees is a boot to the side of his face (Twisted Charge, I love you).
OnlineHost*(12:06:53*AM): Monk rolled 1 20-sided die:* 13

Monk*(12:08:59*AM): It's to confirm my after-trip pawnch.,

Monk*(12:12:14*AM): Can we hurry this along? My mother wants on.
Druid*(12:12:20*AM): nevermind. I had Blind-fight, in case you added any bonuses

Dungeon Master*(12:15:47*AM): It's a normal Concentration DC I believe
WielderOfAscalon*(12:15:47*AM) has entered the room.

Dungeon Master*(12:19:16*AM): Did Volvagi stun you?
Druid*(12:19:26*AM): I think the wall did. I think
Dungeon Master*(12:19:43*AM): Then you'd be back. Stunning ends the start of the stunner's turn
Druid*(12:20:47*AM): Bear mutherfugging barrage.
Dungeon Master*(12:20:52*AM): AC is... ?
Dungeon Master*(12:21:02*AM): *cough* 20?

Dungeon Master*(12:29:45*AM): I think the fight's over ^_^'
Druid*(12:29:49*AM): no. she's at 12 STR
Druid*(12:30:05*AM): yeah. pretty much.
Dungeon Master*(12:30:13*AM): Still, This mean the wall didn't need to spend the turn crushing you
Dungeon Master*(12:30:21*AM): And could spend that hugging the bear
Monk*(12:30:23*AM): Sure it did~
Druid*(12:30:42*AM): If only I can exploded AIM dice.

Final words/comments on the match

Dungeon Master : *Monk*, the partners you can call really make a difference, no?
Monk : Indeed they do.
Monk : Now imagine if I had called them in the battle royale.
Dungeon Master : lol
Druid : Now can I find out what that bracelet thingy is, and why you never seemed to use it?
Monk : Should we tell him?
Druid : Also, was that thing counted as a summon, or a tangent being?
Dungeon Master : go ahead
Druid Funny how 2 mis-actions costed me.
Monk : It was a simple Bracelet of Friends.
Monk : And now Wall-chan has a pet teddy... oh, and I can get the shield I gave you back and sell it.
Druid : Quick question. Was it possible to have dispelled the summon before it came out?
Monk : No.
Druid : Okay. Checking to see if it followed the rules of Summon Whatever #
Dungeon Master : nope
Dungeon Master : It's a calling spell
Dungeon Master : It actually brings them there
Monk : It was a tangible being, not a facsimile.
Monk : And it kicked your bear's ass.
Dungeon Master : Well, it's hard to fight a wall that can... OOOH~! I should add in Ki Straps when I get the Chance :-D
Druid : Also, was WERE those 2 things? Copy and Wall?
Monk : Just "friends".
Monk : You might meet them for real someday.
Dungeon Master : Next time: Saya and Diana? :-D
Monk : Oh, yes~
Dungeon Master : They'll kill with the power of VaVaVoom
Monk : Bon Kyu BON~!
Monk : CRITICAL HIT!
Dungeon Master : Or calling in one of the masters from the Monestary, *Monk* xD
Dungeon Master : I got Friends in loooowly places~
Monk : Oh, and how?
Monk : I should call the grandmaster to a fight someday. He would **** EVERYONE up.
Dungeon Master : preferrably not Hagman xD
Dungeon Master : The Grandmaster would be funny
Dungeon Master : Aaaaand *Druid* has no idea why we're giggling so much
Druid : Yes, because compared to Chaaarlie the unicorm from the 1st match you guys had epic level/uber level helpers
Druid : but the fight gave me a better idea on what I should have done.
Dungeon Master : Actually, Alt. Volvagi was the only one above your level :-D
Monk : They were far from epic, *Druid*.
Druid : What are they anyway? Telling me they are friends don't exactly help.
Monk : They're MY friends.
Monk : Well, sort of.
Monk : Actually, one is a rather... disagreeable friend.
Dungeon Master : one is more like a friend with flexible morals
Dungeon Master : :-D
Monk : And the other friend is a wall.
Dungeon Master : Which is Alt. Volvagi
Dungeon Master : They're Monks
Dungeon Master : :-P That help you, *Druid*?
Dungeon Master : Monk wall and Monk Monk
Monk : Oh, if only you knew how much fun this is for me.
Druid : No. >_> Wall = what creature/template/whatever? Shadow monk = ???
Monk : We'll tell you... someday.
Monk : If I told you now, you would blab all over... I want this to be a surprise.
Dungeon Master : Indeed
Dungeon Master : The wall has ranks in Profession (wall)
Druid : I wonder how that fight counts, since it's using campaign related friends.
Druid : I shall call it Balrog-san. >:|
Monk : You get to summon beings for your aid, I can call on the help of friends.
Dungeon Master : Aaaanyways, it's getting late, guys
Monk : Awright.
Dungeon Master : we can chat tomorrow?
Monk : We can.
Druid : Nah I won't. I spent almost no time on my project.
Dungeon Master (12:48:48 AM): *Druid*, will you be joining us in tomorrow's game?
Druid: I'd request another match, minus summons, but I know how that will go.
Monk : I just remembered something.
Druid : but anyways, still have a match against Karma
Druid : I'll do that probably at your house Cow.
Dungeon Master : wuss
Dungeon Master : niiiight~
Monk : Night
Dungeon Master : *Mwah~*
Monk : Have fun with your new teddy, Wall-chan~
Monk : :-D
Dungeon Master has left the room.
Monk : But yeah. All I can say is, a martial character at my level... vs casters at the same level? I would have no chance.
Monk : In four levels? Might tip more in my favor.

Since I can't post anymore without breaking the character limit, I'm forced to double post so I can list a few comments on what I observed:

-I didn't buy enough time to buff myself even further. I only had Bite of the Weretiger. I underestimated how powerful that "wall" monk was. I didn't pull any punches using my most powerful buff spell right off the bat, but ignoring the "wall" monk and not buffing more to accommodate the new threat had cost me.
-I should have tried getting out of that 40 foot bar room
-I should have been more merciless and used my Save-or-Suck Blinding Spittle earlier
-I didn't modify my spell list enough from the 1st match (I took what I had, and added minor tweaks here and there)
-I forgot about my Healing Belt

Were you running full ToS rules, or just normal arena stuffs?

Were you running full ToS rules, or just normal arena stuffs?

Just normal arena stuff. We also used out characters straight from the campaign with whatever gear they had. No WBL buying if we're short of the WBL number. That's why I quoted Test of Spite.

1. Roll for Initiative
2. Have at it. One will stand, and one will fall.

Hmm, well, I mean, bracelet of friends is obviously hax. But if nothing is banned, well... nothing is banned.

There's a reason that ways to get (effective) allies are largely banned, and those that aren't require you to disclose that you are a minionmancer. 2v1 can be very big.

Yeah. I could have pulled the big cheese, like Venomfire and the Complete Divine Quill Blast, just to be spiteful. I never even asked my DM about allowing me these spells because they obviously will break his campaign. However, I only ask about if there was a better way to deal with the dual monks with what I had, or at least powerful but non-cheese spells. Blinding Spittle was about as overpowered as I'd dare to go.

But if nothing else, I'd like to know what kind of monster/race/template is it that a 450 pound "wall" can have arms and legs and yet be a monk? I estimated that wall's AC to be around 30, give or take a couple points. In an enclosed room like that, I probably should have shared Thornskin so everything they hit me they take 5 damage, and maybe to be a jerk share Stoneskin too, so it just becomes a battle of attrition.

*Hmm that's another thing. I had no idea a simple 19k item can be so powerful. I guess if I wanted to, I can roleplay and say I summoned my druidic friends too, or even my teacher/grandmaster.

I am also confused about the "wall". See, when I think of all wall, I think of this (http://neilhellmanlibrary.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/wall.jpg). Not this (http://www.steadyhealth.com/articles/user_files/23630/Image/kickrt.jpg).

It's both, in a sense. So Yeah.

That makes no freakin' sense.

Call shenanigans on your DM next time you see him :P

I'm sorry to say, but I'd call that an unfair fight. It stinks of cheese and collusion between Monk and the DM. At the least, after the fight, I would of requested to see what creature "the wall" was and its sheet.

Hmm...brainstorming!!

It must be one of two things: either an animated object (Medium or Large), or a...polymorphed construct?

In any of the cases, it's necessary to find what items, feats or templates allow it to deal Strength damage to the creature. Anything that deals ability damage is pretty dangerous.

Now...as things go:
--If it's an animated object, then it's DM Fiat that suddenly it has feats and Monk-ish attributes. Evidently, the DM and the Monk wanted to balance things somehow, and they made a construct with PC qualities. That alone stinks of Roquefort or Brie.
--If it's a Polymorphed Construct (or a Disguise-Self construct, which is what I imagine), then it's kinda worse. It seems that the DM smelled that the Druid is Tier 1, and decided to go with Golems of some sort to handle the situation.

Let's go pretty clearly on the math:
--Attack seems to be 1d10 + 9 + 1d6 Str damage if successful. By such, the STR rating should be around...28-29? Must also have some way to deal 1d6 Strength damage, which is what worries me...what kind of template or feat allows to deal that amount of Str damage? Most Str damage I see goes around 1d2 or 1d3, and the rare occasional 1d4. So we got something that hits half as strong as a golem does (since a golem's slam is 2d10 + STR, and it fits with Stone Golem damage), but deals more strength damage than several things, notwithstanding some poisons' damage.
--AC is harder to determine, as one hit was with a total score of 34, and the others are...well, kinda difficult to adjudicate. If something, I'll go with the gut instinct of 26 AC, perhaps more because of increased AC.
--The bench press seems quite suspiciously to a pin, but there's no grapple.

So...Stone Golem with Disguise Self, or half-Stone Golem with Disguise Self (which may explain why, despite being an evident construct, has minimal intelligence). Then again, it could have also had Awaken Construct...

Opinion?

Hmm, a monk Golem disguised as a wall sounds plausible. As for the STR damage, yeah I have no idea if that's a homebrewed ability or not. It's no Ray of Enfeeblement. At least Enfeeblement is a penalty, and ability damage is far deadlier because it's stackable. It can't be poison, otherwise I'd be told to roll for Fortitude every time.

As for the 1d10, I think that's to match the power of a monk's fists. That'd place it anywhere from a level 8 to level 11, not including whatever race/template/monster it is.

Yeah that's a no-go. I already asked after the battle. The person controlling the monk said if he told me now it'd spoil things in the future.

Right there. That's the signal to get out of dodge. The DM is sharing confidential information with another player, and is using a creature that is likely not legitimate to defeat a fairly constructed player in a fair fight. This whole situation just stinks. I'd get out of dodge ASAP were I you.
