Sure, it is just an amazon to-be-sold site, but ...

Well spotted Yakk.

WOTC stripmine the old TSR property they've been hoarding like Smaug. Called it months ago.

Up next:

New! Shiny! Better!
WOTC's Boot Hill(tm)(c)(r)(All rights reserved)
and
WOTC's Top Secret(tm)(c)(r)(All rights reserved).

Gamma world 4e!

Gamma 4E was the d20 version of the game. This iteration is the 5th edition of the game.
How silly of me to forget though: the advent of 4E was Year 0.

...all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All history of a nation or people before Year Zero is largely irrelevant, as it will (as an ideal) be purged and replaced from the ground up.

For your consideration: Mutant Future (http://www.goblinoidgames.com/mutantfuture.html), the OGL Gamma World retro-clone.
And you don't have to give WOTC a cent for it.

Actually, Gamma World 4 was the Alternity version of it. Version 5 was the D20 version.

I suppose this would be version 6.

No good can come of this. Seriously.

I second getting Mutant Future. Not only do you not have to pay WOTC for it, you don't have to pay for it at all. Free PDF on Lulu don't you know. Plus, it's moderately compatible with Labyrinth Lords (also available for free I think), so you can really cut loose. I have plans for a fallout shelter with a vampire inside it.

I only know... hmm... second or third or something edition. For the unenlightened:

It's goofy and awesome.

Or a little bit longer: first, there came the far future. With energy weapons and power armor and gigantic flying fortresses and robots. Then came a nuclear war and it was all blown to bits. Everyone mutated.

Actually, so far, it sounds like Fallout. It isn't.

For character creation, in the game I played, you chose a race first. Human, Mutant, Mutated Animal or Mutated Plant. Animals included such stupid things as octopus or different kinds of bird. Then you rolled on a table for random mutations and got things like a second head, brain included, the psychic power to shoot lasers from your eyes or gas bags which can make you float.

I only played one round, but it was incredibly whacky, stupid and fun. The mission our GM sent us through was a standard module... we had to explore an abandoned museum/planetarium while dodging janitor combat robots, the "other planets in the solar system" simulation which included vacuum, the gravity of jupiter and the cold of pluto. Then we had to convince a sentient nuclear missile to not blow itself up and then outrun the explosion in a pre-war jeep.

That would be the 2nd edition included adventure I think. Great fun.

Such wonderful memories of playing Gamma World after school...back in the 80's.

I'm of the opinion that Star Wars Saga Edition would have made a better base for a newer iteration of Gamma World than 4E...but I'm still eager to check it out.

My favorite version of GW is the 4th. The one before the Alternity version. It was in many ways a precursor to 3E D&D. I did a review here:
