Illusionary Pit - Can I voluntarily fail my save?

6th level spell from Complete Arcane. On a successful save your are stunned, on a failed save you drop prone and can take no actions. Won't most melee-ers rather auto-fail it? Is it meant to be dazed on a successful save, or are you supose to be helpless on a failed save?

Yes, you can voluntarily fail any save you are called upon to make.

But remember, if you succeed on the save, you are stunned for only one round. If you fail, you are prone and unable to take any action for the duration of the spell (minimum 11 rounds +1 extra round stunned) or until attacked.
