Hey guys, I have a question that would be awesome if someone could answer.

What kind of outfit would the military wear just before to during the Industrial Revolution. The person would be a young male in a rebellion force.

It would be great if someone could answer this question.

If the person in question is part of a rebellion, they probably didn't wear any sort of uniform. Surplus battledress is fairly easy to acquire in modern terms and gives its wearer quite an advantage on the battlefield, but during the era you're speaking of uniforms were primarily intended to help distinguish between friend and foe on the battlefield and to look pretty for formations. A rebellion probably couldn't afford to equip its members with uniforms, and they'd stick out like sore thumbs if they did wear uniforms, which defeats the purpose of an asymmetrical war, like a rebellion.

Okay, but what would people generally wear in that era, then?

A little bit of Google-fu turns up these links...

http://www.history.org/history/clothing/men/mglossary.cfm
http://www.americanrevolution.org/clothing/clothing4.html

Those are primarily about the clothing of the upper class, but shirt & coat and either breeches and leggings, or more likely trousers, would be something that the members of a rebellion would wear.

What nation and the conditions will also dictate what they wore.

Do you need to know about war-fighting equipment they might be carrying, as well?

I tried that. All I could find was women's dresses and the upper class stuff. But I guess that'll have to do. Thanks guys!
