Howdy fellow Playgrounders,

So I started a new campaign a few weeks ago and have decided to post a journal of the campaign here on the forums as well as on LiveJournal. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to comment on it.

Note: I have taken some creative liberties with the dialogue and some of the actions to make the story a little more cohesive, but I have tried to stay as true to the characters as possible.

I will be updating this thread as I post entries on LiveJournal. It appears to be taking multiple posts on LiveJournal to post the first session, but hopefully I'll be able to get it all up soon.

So without further ado, I present the first part of the first session.

Five riders approach the city. It is dusk and the guards have already closed the gates for the evening to protect the people from bandits.

"Who goes there!" calls one of the guards.

The Hound Archon looks up, his radiant armor shimmering in the darkening light, the left half of his face covered by shadows. "We return from a mission for the Empire!"

The guard's face pales, "So..so sorry my lords." He tells his subordinates to open the gates so that the riders may enter the city. They are met by old companions who ask them to join them for a drink. The winged Angel declines, wishing to meet with the Emperor as soon as possible. His great, feathered wings are tucked behind him, almost blending in with his armor, his halo floats around their eyes rather than above his head like the traditional angels.

The tall, muscular Man placed a hand on the Angel and smiles, "Come on, Abel, one drink can't hurt." His many scars tell the story of a hundred battles.

The small Ice Mephit and tall Nymph with elvish features dissagree. "Argon, we must go see the Emperor."

As they begin walking towards one of the taverns, the riders are met by several of the Imperial Guard. "My lords, the Emperor wishes to see you, to see how the mission went." The riders are escorted to the Palace where they are invited into the Emperor's Throne Room.

The Emperor is a middle-aged man with medium length hair, his battle-scarred armor pulsing with magic. He is flanked by two men, one wearing white armor, with shoulder-length green hair and a blade at his side. The other wearing red armor with semi-short red hair.

The Emperor looks up as the riders approach. "How did it go?"

The Hound Archon answers. "Without a hitch. Csill Korus has been subdued."

"So he is defeated?"

The Justice Archon chimes in, " We were not able to slay the demon. We had to invoke an ancient ritual."

"What sort of ritual?" The white armored man asks.

"Four great, immortal, celestial Stags now patrol the Mountain to guard against the demon's powers."

"Well done, my servants," replies the Emperor. "Your reward shall be great. You shall be knighted."

"You honor us sir." The Hound Archon says.

"Martus will escort you to the cleansing room."

The man in white signals them to come with him. As they walk down the palace halls, the riders notice the many paintings and sculptures recording the Grand History of the Empire. They come to a set of double doors.

"Place your hands upon the doors, they will open if you are judged worthy." The riders look at each other anxiously, until Abel unhooks his gauntlet.

"Aramoor, shall we?" The Hound Archon nods and begins andoing his own gauntlet. The others follow suit and the door opens.

"Well, go in." says Martus. Inside the room is a large, metallic machine resembling a large furnace. Martus walks up to it and begins chanting and making strange motions with his hands and a door-sized portal opens and a green light is emitted from the machine. "This is a Twilight Reactor, when you enter, you will be washed with energy."

The riders look at each other and Aramoor steps up. "I will enter the Reactor." As he is approaching the Reactor, Martus drops to his knees, clutching his temples, and screams in pain.

When he recovers, he looks up with madness in his eyes. "You cannot enter the Reactor!" He draws his blade and leaps toward Aramoor, who dematerializes and reappears on the other side of the Reactor. The Houri draws her Scimitar and races to her comrade's aid. With a flurry of attacks, she breaks through his defenses to leave a solid blow. Martus retaliates with a blast of arcane energy that leaves the Houri reeling in pain. Abel flies forward with his greatsword and makes a single swing which Martus dodges. Abel looks over to Aramoor and brings his wings to protect himself.

The Ice Mephit lets loose an arrow as Aramoor screams "Its time to end this!" A black hole appears in Martus' stomache and he is sucked into the Void. Moments later his blade, Magusbane appears in the air and drops to the ground.

And the second part of the first session. It appears that the first session may take three or four posts.

The red-armored man runs into the Reactor chamber. "What happened?" he asks, panting. His eyes dart over to the sword and the portal. "What have you done?"

"He attacked us," replied the Ice Mephit.

The man looks at her, "Did you enter the Reactor?"

"No. He attacked us as Aramoor was about to enter the Reactor."

"Hm. Why would Martus attack you." The man says to himself as he walks over to the sword. The sound of metal against marble is heard as the blade is picked up. "Come with me. We will see what the Emperor wants to do with you."

They walk back down the hall and enter the Throne Room. "Kazyr, what happened?" The Emperor then notices the riders. "You have not entered the Reactor." Kazyr raises the blade of Martus.

"Your son is dead my lord. He attacked the riders as they were about to enter the Reactor." The Emperor's face pales and places it in his hands.

"Gods. Why has this happened!" he yells. "There was no other way?"

Aramoor answers, "No my liege. I am terribly sorry. I accept responsibility for this and the punishment that is to be handed."

"You did what had to be done. If you wish, you may still be knighted." He pauses for a few minutes. "Take six days to yourselves and return for my son's funeral."

Aramoor and Abel look at each other. "You honor us sir." The riders bow and leave the chamber.

* * *

The riders are sitting at a table in a tavern talking to one another. "What say you Argon? Should we go through with it?" asks Aramoor.

The battle-scarred human looks up from his drink, "I figure its more power to make us better fighters. We should do it." he takes his beer and drains the cup, wiping the foam from his mouth.

Aramoor looks to the Mephit and Houri, "What about you, Eliza, Elora?"

The Mephit looks down, "I don't know. It seems really risky."

Elora places a hand on Eliza's shoulder. "Its for the good of the Empire" her soothing voice calming the Mephit down. "We will be able to protect our families more easily."

Abel replies, "Yes, but do you see what happened to Martus? What if that happens to us?"

"My thoughts exactly" says the Hound Archon. "I say we take a few days to mull it over. Meet back here in a few days?" The rest of the riders nod in agreement. "Lets go Abel."

The riders leave the tavern, going their separate ways.

* * *

Argon goes to his home to drink himself into a stupor and train his body for the next battle.

* * *

Eliza goes into the city to spend time amongst the people and meets with a young boy.

"Hello miss!" the boy exclaims.

"Hi, how are you?" she asks tenderly.

"You wanna play chase with me?" he asks with joy in his eyes.

"Sure." she turns around and counts as the boy runs into the crowd.

* * *

Elora goes to her gardens to be with her husband and her flowers. She spends many hours talking with her elven husband before she goes to meet with her companions.

* * *

Abel and Aramoor spend their time studying and researching the Twilight Reactors. Aramoor has the idea to Commune with one of the Seneschals of Illuvatar.

Greetings, Aramoor, Warrior of Light. What may I answer for you?

"Are the Twilight Reactor dangerous?"

No. They enhance one's power.

"Is Martus' madness an isolated case?"

Yes. He is the first to react like this.

"Did the Reactor cause Martus to go insane?"

No. It was the power of Dhaeos.

"Where may we find more information?"

The Elders know much about the Reactors.

"Who is the nearest Elder?"

Hades.

Aramoor breaks his communion. "We should see what the Elders know." He and Abel go to the pits of the Palace where there is a known portal to the Underworld. "We call upon Hades, to answer our questions." the two Archons chant together. After a few minutes, there is a burst of blue flames.

"Hey, name's Hades, Lord of the Underworld, hi how ya doing?"

"We seek information pertaining to the Twilight Reactors."

"Why would I give you two answers?"

"Because, we could aid your competitors, Crom or Hel." replies Abel, calmly.

"And we have brought an offering." Aramoor hands over a pomegranate.

"Hm. You make a good point. Give me a sec to find out what you wanna know." Hades places his hands upon their heads. "I see." He proceeds to explain about the Twilight Reactors and an Elder who has been destroying them to destroy the Empire.*

Abel and Aramoor look at each other. "Thank you." they say together.

Hades looks at them. "No problem kids." He bursts into blue flames and smoke to return to his dominion.

"We should do it." Abel says.

"I agree. Lets meet back up with the others."

* * *

When they return to the Tavern, Argon is waiting for them along with Elora. "What took you guys so long?" asks Argon.

"We were talking with Hades." Aramoor answers. Several hours later, Eliza enters the tavern.

"Sorry, I was playing with this little boy who was so cute."

"Its fine." Elora tells her. "So what news do you two have?"

"I think we should do it." says Aramoor, who proceeds to tell the others what Hades told them.

*The full story shall be written down in a future post.

The third part of the first session. Good lord is it taking forever. Hopefully I'll be able to get the last part of the first session and the second session in one post.

The riders make their way to the reactor. Upon entering the room, they see the black portal still there from Aramoor’s spell. Their faces turn pale as they see what should have dissipated days ago still in existence. Aramoor turns heel and starts out of the door and was met by Kazyr.

“I see you have decided to go through with it.”

“Yes, but what is that?” Aramoor exclaims, pointing to the portal.

“We are not sure, I have done everything I could to seal it and make sure nothing comes out of it.”

“How about this?” Aramoor begins the complex gestures for a spell, grabbing his focus, the symbol of Illuvatar. After a series of words in Celestial, Aramoor shouts “Power of Illuvater, lock away this dimension!”

“We will enter the Reactor now” says Abel.

Aramoor sticks out his hand. “Wait. I will go in first. When I emerge, if I show any signs of hostility, do not hesitate.” Abel places a hand on his shoulder and nods.

Aramoor takes in a deep breath and slowly walks into the green lighted portal. As he enters, he feels pressure around his body so intense it seems as if it would crushed him. He begins to lose hope when suddenly the pressure is alleviated and he feels nothing but peace. Suddenly, a terrible cry unlike anything he has heard before fills his head. It is the cry of a woman. As the wailing calms, a soothing voice fills his head.

Relax. Feel my power. Let it flow through you, you have a great destiny.

As the Hound Archon relaxes, thousands of images flash before his mind. “I see. This is the truth of magic.” As this is said, Aramoor steps out of the Reactor and his companions look at him warily for a moment, but then let down their guard as he has a look of utter peace upon his face.

“What was it like?” asks Elora.

“How do you feel?” asks Eliza.

“You’ve been gone for over half a day,” says Argon.

“Half a day? No, I couldn’t have been gone for more than an hour.” Replies Aramoor.

“He has phenomenal cosmic power now.” Answers Kazyr. “The first year after one enters the Twilight Reactor, is one’s most powerful.” The riders look at each other and each enter the reactor. They experience the same pressure, wailing, and soothing voice as Aramoor. As each relaxes in turn, they feel power unlike anything they could ever imagine.

As they emerge, the riders are met by the Magic Emperor. “Ah, I see you have decided to go through with it. I am so happy you have, you see, we do not have nearly as many Magic Knights as we once did.” He looks at the riders and smiles. Go to the Recovery Wing of the Palace, when you are fully recovered, I have a mission for my newest Knights.”

On their way to the Recovery Wing, the newly made Knights begin to feel weak. The experience in the Twilight Reactor has drained them. They spend the next six days recovering, drinking potions and having lotions rubbed on their bodies.

When the Knights fully recover, they walk to the Throne Room, where the Emperor is having a Council of War with the other Magic Knights.

“Welcome, my newest Knights,” says the Emperor.

“It is an honor to serve you my lord, we look forward to our mission.” Aramoor says as he and the Knights bow.

“Your mission is to go to the Western Kingdom and investigate a Wizard who has declared the independence of the City of Tara and the surrounding lands.
