I'm playing a gnome illusionist, and I am wondering what Prc's I should go into. I am lvl 2 at the moment, and really would prefer to stay away from shadowcraft mage cheese. Help?

Master Specialist is a very solid prestige class. Mage of the Arcane order can be very handy if your DM is stingy with what spells you get. Loremaster is great if you have a raven familiar, since now your familiar can Use Magic Devices. Archmage is another useful prestige class. All of those prestige classes share feat & skill requirements, and in the case of Loremaster and MotAO, they get bonus feats at second level to make up for the rather poor prereq feats you need to get into them.

Shadowcraft Mage is only really cheesy when you use the questionable Miracle trick. Otherwise, it's a very solid blasty class that doesn't really do anything special (compared to straight wizard) until level 11 or so.

Other Illusion-themed classes in existence: Shadowcrafter [Underdark] & Shadow Adept [PGtF]. Just something that might be of interest.

Of the books? Underdark & Player's Guide to Faerun. Two separate books.

let your warlock ally kill you, then play something more helpful.

Indeed. Check the funniest kills thread. I simply want to play a whisper gnome illusionist in a party with a mass arsonist who tumbles through the street naked while lighting thigs on fire and carries 50 ibs of daggers and a warlock sparrow that CAN WALK ON WATER!

I like Earthdreamer as a class. An illusionist that can create illusionary walls and walk through them, then walk through real walls, can create all kinds of confusion.
