No problem. I'm curious, what do your Brute Gauntlets do?

02youeng
2010-02-03, 07:30 PM
3 charges, swift action to use, give a bonus to strength tests, strength skills and melee damage for 1 round. 1 charge = +2 Str, 2 charges = +3 Str, 3 charges = +4 Str

Gonna buy some Steadfast Boots [Magic Item Compendium, 1,400g] and 2 potions of Faith Healing [Snuggles the Death Kitty,] for 100g. Right to reactionary, yada yada yada...

hustlertwo
2010-02-03, 09:34 PM
I will buy another 2 Tanglefoot Bags, and although I bought it before the match, just letting you know I picked up an Armband of Elusive Action.

Triggers my readied action when you hit O-17, I think.

Javelin toss'd!

Easily a hit, even if I were on the other side of the map

Round 3, Train

Never mind, I think that turn was illegal. Pretty sure Tanglefoot Bags can't be drawn on a move.

Draw a Tanglefoot Bag, throw it.

1d20+1 (I think that's the penalty)

DC 15 or glued, you probably know the rest.

Then shift grip on guisarme to two-handed.

hustlertwo

Crap, forgot, can't edit in rolls.

Done, by the way.

hustlertwo
2010-02-04, 10:23 PM
OK, so you're glued to the floor. I assume you know the other stuff with Tanglefoot? -2 attack rolls, -4 Dex, 1/2 move.

02youeng
2010-02-04, 10:28 PM
Grr.

[roll0] rounds

Farkis, round 3

Free action: Growl at Train
Swift action: blow all 3 charges of my Brute Gauntlets for +4 Str this round on Str tests, skills and melee damage
Free action: DC 17 Str test to break the glue

More coming up...

hustlertwo
2010-02-04, 10:30 PM
Are Strength checks free actions? Ability checks don't come up a lot in Arena, never really seen it in any of my matches.

Oh, wait, never mind. You failed. That was highly improbable. Still curious about the ability check thing, though.

02youeng
2010-02-04, 10:32 PM
Well, balls.

Standard action: auto-hit attack against the goo

[roll0]

02youeng

I checked the Tanglefoot bag entry, just said that a Str test or damage was needed against it to break it. Didn't mention it taking an action, and neither does the Ability Check page in the SRD.

Also, I just used the wrong weapon completely, it should be my bite, not my guisarme against the goo.

[roll0]

hustlertwo
2010-02-04, 10:50 PM
No problem, both work. And since it's not listed as reactive, no clue if it's a non-action check or one of the ones that requires an action; I know the Web spell require a full-round one, but I doubt that's the case here (my guess is it's either standard or move, but I have no basis for that aside from a hunch). I'll doublecheck before we go on any further.

02youeng
2010-02-04, 11:01 PM
Well, if it's a standard action, I don't get my bite against the goo, and I'm stuck where I'm standing. If it's a move action, my bite breaks me free, and I 5ft step into position. If it's a free action, then it goes as planned.

hustlertwo
2010-02-04, 11:05 PM
Also not sure you can 5 foot while gunked up and moving half speed, I think there's something about not doing it when movement is impeded. Not sure if that applies to this stuff or not (probably not, but a guy can dream).

02youeng
2010-02-04, 11:15 PM
Ah, of course, I forgot. Scratch the 5ft step if it is a move action to break free, then.

hustlertwo
2010-02-05, 12:36 AM
OK, going on the assumption goo removal attempt was a standard. Now I move to Z-9, drawing another javelin along the way. Also, activating Whirling Frenzy.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Shift guisarme grip, done.

Stats:

HP: 23
AC: 21
Shield of Faith 8 rounds left
Position: Z-9
Equipped: guisarme

02youeng
2010-02-05, 01:57 PM
Veeery nice with the Tanglefoot bag. I believe this may well be Farkis' first defeat. Feel proud, hehe.

Farkis, round 4

Free action: move guisarme to one hand
Move action: draw a javelin
Standard action: throw it

[roll0] [I can't be arsed to work out how big the minus is to the attack, but I'll only hit on a natural 20]
[roll1]

Turn done.

3 HP left, finish me

hustlertwo
2010-02-05, 02:06 PM
I know, and it was definitely not a sure thing until the bag went. I had some strategies (fortunately I was prepared for your reach, since you killed Mr. Solus with it in the big 4v4 exhibition), but I didn't really account for just how high your strength mod was. A one-hit kill was probably possible.

Of course, it's still not sure now...

Draw javelin, throw javelin.

[roll0]
[roll1]

I was gonna move closer, but I guess with your Dex penalty I can stay here and still hit on any roll except that whose number we cannot speak, lest we bring its fury.

02youeng
2010-02-05, 02:14 PM
Hehe, the nice thing for me about my reach, was that your Armband wasn't enough. It stops you from provoking 1 AoO a game, but to melee me you'd have provoked 2.

Farkis is down for the count, good game sir.

hustlertwo
2010-02-05, 02:20 PM
Yeah, I know. Although it didn't occur to me until around round 2, I had been thinking it would work if you started a turn at 20 feet from me, but it wouldn't. Still useful, though. If the strength check had been a free action and you had moved to 20 feet from me, I could have 5 footed, javelined, and presuming I survived your next attack, thrown another within your melee range, and just used the armband.

Sallera
2010-02-05, 02:35 PM
Movement through multiple threatened squares only provokes one AoO, though, so the armband would have been enough to get into range. Regardless...

Farkis is subject to a poster-hanging, and Train takes the victory.

hustlertwo
2010-02-05, 02:39 PM
Really? I was just thinking that if he got the multiple AoO-giving feat, where you can do more than one a turn, he'd be an even worse threat.

02youeng
2010-02-05, 02:45 PM
Need a Dex stat for that to work, heh. This was my first character, I know what I'd change if I were to redo him, hehe.

hustlertwo
2010-02-05, 02:48 PM
I wouldn't recommend it, though; I know a lot of people retire level 2 characters, but considering how long it can take to get that far, I think it's a bad idea. Especially with Farkis 1 win away from level 3. Honestly, Train also seems a bit flawed to me (I made an amalgamation of him and Battle Janitor, Re-Train, for the Endless Dungeon who I consider to be superior to both), but now that he's a confirmed level 3 at the end of this round, I can't retire him. Too much time invested. Plus, he was also my first guy, he's served well enough.
