View Full Version : [3.5] Level 9 of Sandshaper, worth it?

IIRC this probably should be asking about level 8, because it's a dead level and THEN you lose a 2nd spellcasting level at level 9, but I am away from my books at the moment so I might be mistaken.

Anyways, is the extra metamagic use + the resurrection from taking a dirt nap, worth losing a 2nd level of spellcasting for a metamagic specialist variant sorcerer?

Not unless you have already taken 8th level.

Nope, technically I haven't even started this game yet, but we're gonna be leveling crazy quick apparently so I wanna make sure my build is gonna work out.

Any thoughts on which PrC I should jump to at level 12 then?

Couple of things.

1) The auto-rez ability (Desert Shroud) is useful, because you should be carrying a bag of holding full of sand anyway for the CL boost from Dust Magic. So if you're going to 9, go to 10. Your allies can dump it out on you and take off.

2) If you're not going to 9, drop out at 7 instead of 8. Sudden Maximize and Sudden Widen 5/day aren't worth losing a CL over, especially since using them without increasing the casting time requires a daily use of your metamagic quickening ability from the ACF.

3) Even if you drop out of Sandshaper early, you will still gain the additional spells, like Whirlwind, on your list.

Please note, OP, that you will need Arcane Preparation for this one.

On a side note: Is there any possible way to turn your sand-shaping ability into an Immediate action?

It's minutes/DC so I don't see how. Though it's unclear how long a 0 DC or negative DC one should take.

Obviously, a negative DC means it's already shaped before you think about shaping it. O_o

Or that you don't even need to think about it! So *that* is how Gaara does it...

Worth it in a Desert campaign. Free Rez is nice, especially during TPKs. The metamagic is less valuable, unless you're a blaster(don't be a blaster).
