So I'm a little confused about this. In strip 507 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0507.html) we see trolls and they are a little bigger than medium creatures. Then in strip 427 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0427.html)(and similarly when Durkon uses Thor's Might) we get "large" creatures whose heads are the size of medium creatures. Thoughts?

Judging from Minotaurs, a "large" creature is defined as any creature more than 8 feet tall. Enlarge Person (and by extention Thor's Might, I'd imagine) specifically states that the target doubles in height, yes? (Can't actually remember and don't feel like looking it up.)

From the SRD:

"This spell causes instant growth of a humanoid creature, doubling its height and multiplying its weight by 8. This increase changes the creature’s size category to the next larger one. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. "

Characters affected by Enlarge Person (and Thor's Might) in OotS seem to come closer to tripling in size, though.

It's not like the Giant hasn't pushed details here and there.

Two factors:

A: Rules-wise, the size categories are really pretty broad. Large covers from 8 to 16 feet, so you can easily have some naturally Large creatures that are only about 8 and a half feet high, and then magically Enlarged creatures that scale all the way up to 14 or so. The game treats them the same.

B: Some allowance must always be made for artistic license. A double-size dwarf just.. doesn't look all that impressive.

Any perceived inconsistency in the execution of the rules in the story can be attributed to the necessity of dramatic effect.

In real life it certainly would. An 8-9 foot tall creature with a dwarven build? Would be a giant.

Yes, yes, but in stickworld a stickman is a stickman, and dimensions must be somewhat exaggerated for a similar effect....
