Due to the retirement of my Rogue "The Ancient Mariner" due to my realisation that I want things that I hit to fall over, I've decided to stop ripping off literary works and come up with an original character for once.

My result was Barry "The Basilisk" Eleskin, "Paladin of Kyuss."
I have 3000 gold pieces to spend, feats to choose and possible alternative class levels to contemplate.
Traits and flaws are not allowed in the normal sense, but are a homebrew version, and I've already decided on a 0th level cleric spell (stabilise) and +2 vs fear and intimidate in order to better emulate paladinhood (maybe take some flaws and get exotic weapon prof: Fullblade, but the executioners mace should suffice.)

Barry isn't very informed in terms of religion, thus why he believes Kyuss has paladins.
What I need are some affordable gear (maybe even alittle magical gear, though it can't be more than 1k each) in order to make my character not only flavourful but an effective close quarters specialist.

The group consists of the skill monkey wizard, twf ranger and mounted combat gnome paladin (using a gnomish hookhammer).

What I need is general advice, as my past characters in pathfinder have been anything but optimised and I'd like to be both flavourful and powerful this time.

What books allowed: All 3.5?

No book of nine swords, no cityscape (DM hasn't got it, but I could probably get him the PDF, minor stuff should be okay), possibly no book of ED and nothing explicitly evil/sociopathic.

Also, it's an Ebberon campaign and alignments are now neutral by default (without the pure of heart trait) and only actions are good/evil/lawful/chaotic.
