I always assumed Eyko was Miko's mother. Adding -ko to a name in Japanese makes it feminine, I thought.

I could of sworn Rich was not an expert on Japanese, a certain name that escapes me points this out.

The name "Miko" means "Crimson Truth", strangely.

What is this "Japanese" you speak of?

Seriously, if the Azure City names were grounded in actual Eastern languages, the ruler of the city probably wouldn't have been named "female virgin."

I KNEW I had heard that name before! Shōjo manga are those meant for a female audience. How could I miss that?

In some comment in some of the books Rich confirmed he picked those names for their sound. Not their meaning.
Assuming he told us the truth. ;)

Plus, Sangwaan is an Indian name.

Japan doesn't exist in OOTS-land. The names are merely supposed to evoke a certain sound, not bear any sort of special meaning.

I thought a miko was a japanese priestess. :smallconfused:

Well, they typically wore crimson skirts. Is there a connection there?

Regardless, Wikipedia has "shaman woman" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miko) or "shrine maiden."

Miko probably volunteered for shrine maiden duty at some point in her life. Now, if she had ranks in heal and was asked to mend somebody's wounds in the course of that job, she would be...

MIKO, MIKO-NURSE! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwWGxX-eXWo)

I also wonder if Eiko is A-ko.

Or she is Neko Miko Reimu! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm3bEXkNRhM)

Well...not really. She is not that awesome.

Anyway, back to the topic, the answer is:
Neither. None of Miko's parents appeared in a book, and I seriously doubt Rich has any use of them in a future strip. It was a joke.

"It must be hard to fit that on a business card."

I can't think of any use for Eyko, who has been dead for quite away (IIRC, Miko being an orphan, right?)

It could also alude the first female human/azurite in the OOtS-land.
Similar to the use of daughters of Eve was in Narnia

I don't think our stick figure comic, however delightful, has Lewisian levels of metaphor and allegory :smalltongue:

It's really hard to judge. Miko is a religious fanatic, after all.

Eyko? That's an anagram for yoke. Miko's an egg. That must be why she always seems so hard boiled!
