As a backup character for a campaign I'm playing in at the moment, I want to try and make a duskblade that focuses on channeling sonic spells through his weapon. I'll be using a extended spell list concocted on this forum (having trouble finding the link at the moment, but it was made by Fax Celestis and Roland St. Jude i think) , but I have a few questions:

1. Does the Energy Substitution Feat work for sonic?

2. Are thereany appropriate sonic spells from other splat books that I might be able to convince my DM to allow me to take?

3. Are there any other feats/PrCs/items etc. that might help with this kind of character?

3.0 Yes, 3.5 No.

I believe this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34943) is the expanded list of spells you want.

Now, your questions:

1. No, Sonic Energy is one of the element types noticeably removed from the feat (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Energy_Substitution) in 3.5.

2. You can try to convince your DM to allow the Orb of Sound from the spell compendium. It's a ranged touch, though, so it might be a borderline case. Still, it's pretty much the archetypal sonic attack.

3. There's an enchantment you can apply to items that deals d4 sonic energy instead of d6 of other energy attacks. It's in the Magic Item Compendium. But my forté isn't magic items, so I'm sure there's better items other people can point you to.

Thanks , that's the one I was talking about.

And dam, although I could always ask my DM about allowing me to take the 3.0 feat - it can't be that unbalanced

It might be more reasonable to ask if you can substitute sonic in for other energy types and reduce the damage by 1/3--so an energy subbed shocking grasp to sonic would deal 1d4 per caster level, for example--since that seems to be the general exchange rate between sonic damage and other kinds of energy damage.

There's an idea.
Dropping the damage dice by one size seems to be the normal method of conversion to Sonic damage (see: "Orb of X" spells, "Energy X" powers).

Either letting Sonic Energy Sub apply or allowing the Duskblade to just learn Sonic versions of the selected spells, but dropping the dice by one size would be reasonable, IMO.
I'd allow it, anyway.
