So I love tossing dragons at parties. Yes I know, they are generally horrifically powerful for creatures of their CR, but this is often decently balanced out if you players know ahead of time that they'll be facing metric arse-loads of dragons in a campaign. Rangers as an example can actually end up quite decent.

So I have the Draconomicon and I much prefer the dragons there to the core MM dragons (if nothing else because everyone I play with knows everything about the core dragons), but are there other sources to find dragons in? I'd be willing to try and obtain some 3rd party stuff, but only if it was primarily about dragons.

Also, what are your favorite dragon based encounters?

Tucker's Venerable Dragonwrought Kobolds.

I prefer Tucker's Pun-Puns myself.

4e or 3.5, they both have a Draconomicon.

This, along with the use of CR, implies 3.5 - 4e rangers ending up quite decent is hardly a surprise.

He might have two-weapon rangers for all we know, or he could have a flawed viewpoint.

But the CR I cannot refute.

Well the ranger part I was just talking about in general for 3.5. I'm actually taking over the duties of DM'ing for an Iron Heroes campaign. I will of course be using dragons as opponents, making any third party sources you can think of greatly appreciated.

Dragon Compendium adds the Orange, Yellow and Purple dragons. Purple in particular is a toughie, even stronger than Gold.

The crystals dragons are in MM2(iirc)

They are the neutral/psionic variants of the chromatic/metallic dragons
