I'm going to be running a campaign soon, but I'm having trouble finding starting gold. The DMG lists 900, but none of the example starting packages have anywhere near that much money. It does show, however, that the npc classes roll for money at chargen.

Is there anything like that for player classes?

You have it backwards. PCs roll, NPCs have 900gp.

Then where is this rolling?

EX: Aristocrats clearly say they have 6d8x10 gold for starting gear, Adepts have 2d4x10, and experts have 3d4x10. However, a Ranger has an Elf Ranger staring package that includes 2d4 gold.

Starting package is after you use the gold to buy stuff.

Also if playing in setting, some have starting packages characters can pick.

The DMG lists 900...
The DMG (p135) lists 900 gold as the guideline for a 2nd level player. First levels are, as mentioned in the PHB (p111), based on the class.

And, on page 127 of the DMG, it lists NPC level 1 wealth at 900 gp. :smalltongue:

NPCs starts out wealthier than PCs. Yes, every peasant has 900 gp minimum (though likely they spent it on a place to live).

PC's level 1 have 60 to 600 gp (depending on class).

Monks (and perhaps others) have less.
