May 23, 1500.

The headmaster office have not changed a bit since the last time you have been summoned there. The room is nicely decorated with many different weapons and armours of high quality, some of them no doubt enchanted. The place looks more like a room to plan battle than what one would expect of a headmaster office. In the middle of the room, there is a table with many maps of various training grounds and battle plans that will be used for other students today. The headmaster desk is in the right corner of the room and as usual everything on it is exactly at the same place as you remember, which makes you wonder if he really use it. The only notable change is the table on the right side. That one usually empty now support five packs.

Fernand Gallion, the headmaster of the Academy and head of the fighters, is standing behind the middle table. He is an old human, wearing a nicely decorated scalemail. With him are the leaders of each of your disciplines. To his left, Brutal Roche the Warden leader, a massive human standing nearly 7 feet tall baring a old scar over is right eye. He look at you with is one good eye in an intimidating way as usual. Standing near him is the leader of the artificers and bards, the gnome named Ajar. You all know him to be a quite talkative and hard to understand. On the other side of Fernand, the druid Mal Thais is looking at the maps, not looking up as you come in. The small and quiet human seems to be oblivious to your arrival, being absorbed by the documents he is studying. In the shadows of the left corner of the room, Malaggar the dark elf is resting against the wall. He is the head of the rangers and you know him to be impatient with students and really quick to punish them. The last but not the least is the eladrin Jymo, which take care of the wizards. He was standing on your side of the table and as all you come into the room, he smile at you and says,
"Welcome, I hope your not too nervous. Today's the day for you all!"
Giving a wink to Gaursa, he walk around the table to stand with the rest of the teachers.

Fernand nod to each of you in turn as you come into the room. When your all standing behind the central table, he says,
"Good morning kids. I assume your all ready for your final exam. As you surely already know, this exam is similar to other training missions you did before with the exception that no teachers will go with you, assist and supervise it. You'll be on your own, each other responsible …."

At that, Ajar interrupt Fernand flashing a smile,
"Came on Fernannd, theese littles one arr quite redy an' fer summ time now! Leeve the borin' speech an' tell themm tha missionn."

Clearing his throat, Fernand continues,
"Well, for Ajar pleasure, here are your objectives. You'll be meeting with a caravan at the crossroads near the Green Forest (La foret Verte) tonight. You will report to Mark Shane, the leader of the guards and assist him all the way up to Torres. This arrangement is already made and we have received the money for that task. From Torres, you will travel to the town of Grandvents where you will meet with the nobleman Filass De L'aurore and give him this letter."
With that, he place a sealed letter on the table, bearing the Grandpre's Seal (http://picasaweb.google.com/Dekkah1/Westernlands#5438469333546175954),
"You are to execute the job he will ask of you, up to the extent of your capacities. Don’t be bold like some have been 3 years ago. Know your limits and respect them."
With this some sadness appear on his old face.
You all remember that 3 years ago, one of the fighter died during the final exam.
"When your done, sire De L'Aurore should write a report of your actions and give you a payment to return us. Any questions?"

Aerth has a difficult time controlling himself but does because of the presence of his headmaster in the room. The years of training with Malaggar have taught him at least one thing, if not anything else. Do not act stupid in front of Malaggar.

It's due to these teachings that Aerth has actually been able to compose himself out on the battle field, especially when stealth is concerned.

Not even the best training could keep him from getting distracted and curious though.

"Uhm." Aerth pipes in, trying to keep his thoughts in check. "What can we expect from..ho..hos.." he thinks for a moment. "What kinds of things will want to kill us around there?"

He seems satisfied with the question before abruptly adding "Er. Headmaster, sir." to the end.

Perception on the room just to notice other interesting things.

"Me, if you dont get on with your mission soon..."
He is fixing you all with a cold stare.
This got the attention of everyone, including Mal who suddenly look up and at Malaggar.
Jymo is the first to recover and add with a meek smile,
"Well, beside the great and dangerous Malaggar, the greatest danger would be the goblins trides from the marsh. Beside that, who knows, but I am not too worried, you'll raise to the challenges, I am sure."

Aerth had gone silent and obediant as Mal's voice would often do to him, he had only started to lose his discipline near the end of the meeting.

"Wha? Bags? Going...uuhhh...right." Aerth takes his bag, drops it, picks it up off the floor and quickly backs out of the room.

"I don't need anything sooooooo...yeah. Where we going again?" He asks after the group has gotten out of earshot. Trying to keep his composure around Mal unfortunately required most if not all of Aerth's attention.

When you’re all ready leave the Academy, there is still a couples hours left before noon. You take a small trail through the fields so you can reach the crossroad in time.
As you walk, you see the farmers working to prepare the fields. With the disastrous harvest of the last season, caused by early cold weather and winter, the farmers have to work hard to first clean the wasted crops and then prepare the lands.
You will travel the rest of the day, walking among some fertile hills and plains.
Around dinner time, as you come on top of a big hill, you get full view of the Green Forest. You can spot the crossroad a mile to the west. A couple miles directly to the south, you can see the caravan making its way north. There is five carts pulled by some heavy duty horses and about 10 traders. They are protected by slightly more than a dozen soldiers, all wearing a tabard with a black eagle.

They should arrive at the crossroad just a little bit after you.

When the caravan reach the crossroad, a burly man wearing an heavy scalemail and riding an warhorse notice you. He lead his horse ahead in your direction and tell you,
"Hello, are you our reinforcements from Grandpre? I'm Mark by the way, who's in charge of your group?"

Meanwhile, Aerth searches out and climbs atop the highest, most stable surface which will be moving with the caravan. This will presumably be one of the carts. From there he'll lie prone (if possible) and pull out his bow, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious.

edit: He'll probably also ask a lot of odd, pointless questions to whomever is within earshot and willing to listen.

You can all clearly see that mark is uneasy with Gaursa, but still keep some composure and reply,
"Alright, just protect the rear of the caravan for now and we will discuss it when we rest. Send the two mens from the back to me, I'll relocate them."
He then address his mens,
Alright guys, lets move, I want to reach the camp spot before darkness falls.

Some people will answer Aerth questions at first, but will get tired eventually and put some distance between them and the place where he climbed. Only one of the merchant, an old man named Bert seem to be able to endure it.
In one of the cart, a young boy spot Arundela beast form and is amazed about it. It will get off of it's father cart and move toward her to play.

Many people look at Gaursa and Darb with some concern, but none openly do anything about it. You can spot that they seemed to complain to Mark though, and after what you assume a couple complaints, he tell everyone loud and clear,
"Listen everyone, these kids have been sent to help me from Grandpre Academy. If they couldnt be trusted, they wouldn't had sent them. And no they aren't imposters, I knew there was a dark elf among them.
With that he give a nod to Gaursa. This put an end to the direct complaints.
You will travel for two more hours up to the edges of the Green Forest.
As people prepare the camp, Mark approach your group,
"Sorry for the little incident, people tend to react badly with uncommon races. I must confess I am not exent to this, but still I trust whom sent you. I was thinking to put you up front for the rest of the trip. Elves are known to have quite good eyes, might be usefull to spot problems. Did you choose a leader among yourself after all? I can also mix you all with soldier if you prefer so you can blend in more, but I think it will take some time for all of them to get used to your presence, mainly yours."
Mark end his sentence looking at Darb and Gaursa.

In his human seeming, Azhardian stands in the middle of the group and nods to Mark. "I'm Azhardian, you can call me Az and I can confirm that Aerth is not our leader." He studies the traders, trying to get a feel for who looks the most nervous. He'll take a seat with them and then pulls out his silver stringed lute, playing several traditional ballads as they travel, hoping to relax the travellers.

Giving a smile to Azhardian,
"Well met Az. It is ok, I can manage to deal with all of you as my own soldiers. What's five more to 15 after all."
At that, he start to laugh.
You can easyly see that he is quite tired.

During the travel, right after Mark told people that he trust the dark elf, Azhardian approach some of the guards who were talking among themselves. He talked with them and played some music for them while the caravan is moving. Listening to the mucis seems to have put them more at ease, diverting their attention from Gaursa.

As they start to build the camp, one of the merchant says,
Well kid, you should come play at our fire tonight, would be nice to ear some good songs and stories.
The merchant partner add, loud enough so only those around him can hear
Just dont bring your dark skinned friend, nor the half-breed, these cant be trusted.

Aerth

Once the party breaks to make camp Aerth eagerly springs from his spot and gives himself a good stretch out before giving a cheerful "Nice talking to you!" to the merchant who had actually listened to him the entire trip.

Then, from there, unless otherwise prompted/cornered/co-erced/instructed/what have you, he'll climb the closest tree and sit in it to scout, truly believing he's helping the group.

He might even call down "Everything is still clear!" every once in a while before getting distracted by something nearby.

If he is, in fact, roped into helping, he'll cheerfully do so although he might annoy the other workers with pointless discussion and he'll often become distracted with tasks the others are doing or nearby animal sounds.

May 24, 1500
In the morning, the caravan depart quite early. The caravan enter Green Forest and you will walk the whole day within it. It is an extremly old forest. Some tree had to be removed to make the road, but other than that, the forest seems untouched by humanoid hands. You break camp early that day. Some of the soldier gather a hunting team, inviting the elves to participate. Luck was on their side and they found good game and you can all eat some fresh meat that night.

May 25-27, 1500
The next day, you exit the wood after two hours of walking, just in time to get soaked by heavy rain. You will travel within plains, hills and some rare small woods. It takes three days of travel, under rain most of the time, to reach Fort-Du-Col on a muddy road that slowed the caravan quite a bit. You come into view of the Fort at dusk on the 3rd day. It is a small and old keep built just where the mountain pass start. It completly blocks the path to stop anything that would try to pass there. The keep can support around an hundred people. You get a well deserved warm and dry bed that night.

May 26-June 1, 1500
In the morning, you enter the Neck Peaks (Les Monts du Col) pass. As you do, Mark will tell you,
“Alright, the real job starts. If we are unlucky, the pass might have some nasty monsters awaiting us. If not, I doubt we will pass throught the Black Marsh without a fight. So keep you eyes open and weapons ready”.
Crossing the mountains takes two and a half day. The trip was uneventfull but still unpleasant. Some strange sound kept you awake most of the second day, but nothing showed itself.
Crossing the marsh is quite a pain. During the three and half day of travel, you had to push carts about 35 times to help them pass muddy spots. As you come into view of Villenoire, a town built on a very fertile small Island within the marsh. You can see that this little fortified town is used to defend itself. The high wood wall surrounding bear the marks of many assault, but are in good shape. Mark will come up to you all and say,
“You seem to have brought us luck! In my 12 years escorting convoy, it’s only the 4th time I pass both the mountain and marsh without a fight.”
At Villenoire Inn, you’ll learn from the locals that the marsh goblin clans that have been attacking them regulary seem to have left them alone lately. People think they are fighting among themselves. Most cheer and raise their mugs at that.
“Let these little bastards kill themselves!”
The tensions between the caravan and you, mainly the ones caused by Gaursa and Darb, seem to have vanished at that point. You all helped them a lot and somehow gained their trust, or at the least some respect.

June 2-4, 1500
After some good rest, you all leave Villenoire. You still have to walk 2 hours within the marsh, but the road is way better than the one going to the mountains : there is bridges to help cross muddy pools. The rest of the 3 days to reach Torres are uneventfull. You’ll notice that the farmers are working really hard to prepare the land like at Grandpre. The big difference is that people have been affected way more by the failed harvest than in Bord-Eau area. Food is rare around these parts, and it shows on the population. As you arrive at Torres gate, Mark will talk with the guards and show his papers. The caravan will procced to the market, leaving each cart where they were headed along the way. After the last cart is delivered, Mark comes to you,
“Well done guys, thanks a lot for the hand, and the luck! If you ever look for a job, come see me, we always need some good hands. Of course, it isn’t as exciting as adventure, but it isn’t always as calm as this trip. Good luck.”

I posted the trip up to Torres to make the game move forward.
I stopped it there for 2 reasons :
First, I want to know how you plan to get to Grandvents from there and if you want to do something in the bigest city of the country.
Also, if you wanted to do some actions during the trip (or at the 2 towns) I'll react to these and loop back if necessary (or give you the result - if rolls are implyed).
Also, if you wanted to do something when you first met Mark and the Caravan, I'll describe it (we can do some dialog if needed).

As you walk in the city, many beggers ask for some food. You can easyly see that not only the farms were affected by the hard winter, but Torres as well.
You still can find a nice Inn to refresh yourselves, have nice drink and celebrate. The food price is a little bit high, but it can be expected in the actual situation.

June 5-9, 1500
When you wake up your quite refreshed and ready for more travel. You leave Torres by the north gate. After a couple hours, the road reach the Grey Lake (Lac Gris) and start running along it. You can see many small boat with fishermens looking for some good catch. An hour or so after lunch, you cross the river Gallon, linking the Grey Lake and the Big Snake Lake (Lac du Grand Serpent). The rest of the day up to the foot of Iron Peaks (Les monts de fer) is quite boring.

The next day, you start to go west between the Iron Peaks and the Grey lake. Traveling under a blazing sun, you meet only one horseman. He ask about the road behind you, telling you that the road up to Bartos is quite safe, before kicking his horse forward. Bartos is a small town, living mainly from fishing and hunting. The Innkeeper is quite friendly to you all.

After a good night rest, you depart for Grandvents, again under a blazing sun. By noon, you can start to see some of the desert the north-east. Where times come to make camp, you've left the mountain side behind. You whiped by great winds coming from the desert, you find a good place a little bit into the woods to make camp. It grant some cover from the winds and you can see your not the first to use it.

Your woken up by some heavy but short rain. It didnt last long and before noon, your all dry by the hot winds and sun. A similar camp can be found at the end of the day to shelter you from the winds.

If possible, the winds are stronger the next day. Travel is hard and unpleasent. But after an hours or so after noon, the road start to be closer to the woods and some hills give much more cover from the desert wind. You can even find a farm or two, which indicate you must be near Grandvents. A couple minutes later, you can see the small town of Grandvents. It similar in size to Bartos, with a maximum of 250 people, and no wall protecting it. You can see the Inn of the "Sandy Hills" in the middle of the town. You can see some people doing the basic trades (smithing, carpenter, hunters...). Atop an hill directly to the north of the town, you can spot a nice mansion. A low fence is surrounding it and a man is working on the lawn around it.

Travel is finaly done.
The Inn at Torres cost :
Dinner : 6 sp
for the room (Include breakfast) : 7 SP
Ale : 3 SP each

The Inn at Bartos cost :
Dinner : 5 sp
for the room (Include breakfast) : 5 SP
Ale : 2 SP each

You have to spend 3 rations for the rest of the trip (2 more if you dont eat at the Inns).

What do you do?

Aerth

The beggars always get the best of Aerth and he ends up giving up half of his rations that day to those on the streets.

Aerth drinks a few rounds with his comrades which only increases his distraction to the point where he can't stay on topic for more than half a minute. He sleeps well that night.

Travelling is interesting, Aerth gets bored of looking for things that want to shoot us and starts firing at trees and such far down the road. Eventually he starts taking bets (verbal, not money) on what he can/cannot hit. He does his best not to waste arrows but hey, sometimes you can't help it.

He also takes the time to try and hunt anything that, while is entertaining, can also become food and save rations maybe?

As they approach Grandvents Aerth shouts "Hey! A town!" as if he's the only one who's spotted the place.

Upon arriving he looks around and is slightly dissapointed, it's small and uninteresting, so far this exam is the dullest school activity he's ever come along for.

"Um, guys?" he asks to whomever is willing to answer. "Why are we here again? I forget."

Gave away 5 rations.

As you walk into town, most people look at you with mild interest, before resuming their work.
At this hour, the Sandy Hills is nearly empty. The main room is quite large for a small town Inn, having 20 tables and a long bar. In the right corner, stairs leads to the 2nd floor, to the rooms. You can see a small stage to the left beside a firepit. Behind the bar, a tall and thin man looks at you and smile,
"Welcome to the Sandy Hills, I'm Ben. What can I serve you?"
The only other client is a burly man with a huge mustache, wearing many layers of animal fur. He is drinking a beer and appears to already be a bit tipsy.

"Just take a table, I'll have your bath ready as soon as possible. Here is your drink and Halda will bring you your meal soon."
At that, the Innkeeper serve you your drink then walk into the kitchen.
He return quickly to his post and serve another beer to the man at the bar.
Five minutes later, a small and young human woman come into the room with your food.

If anyone of you have gone with Az, the Innkeeper take your orders as well.

After your meals and baths, when Azhardian take out his lute, the barman will happyly say,

He start to laugh at that.

As dinner time approach, people start to fill the Inn main room. Most of them are the workers and their families. Most of them seem curious about you, but they still leave you alone. Among them, a pair of elves enters the Inn, they appears to be the town hunters. Seeing your group, they seem a little surprised by Gaursa and Darb presence, but still smile and salute Aerth and Arundela before going to a table.
Ben and Halda work furiously to serve everyone as more people come into the Inn. By dinner time, the Inn is nearly full and busting with laughers and discussions of every kind. Everyone seems to know each others, which leads you to believe that this isnt a special event, but commonplace in this town.
You also spot a middle aged man wearing some fine clothings as he enters the room. He his quite tall, with blond hair and a round belly.

Sir De L'aurore will lead you to the mansion you spoted when you came into town. The ground around it is beautiful : the lawn is well trimmed, there is patches of flowers and bushes and a couple nice small statues.
As you enter then house, you find yourselves in a huge hall. It is nicely decorated with statues, paintings, olds armors and weapons. The house butler come into view quickly. He's a small and thin man, wearing a black and blue suit.
"Good night Sir, I see we have some guest."
"Good night Gaston, we will retire to my office. Bring us some refreshments please."
Filass lead you to his office. It is also well decorated, mainly with banners and paintings. One of the painting is impressive. It is 5 feet tall by 12 feet long and represent a battlefield and appear quite old.
Filass move behind his desk and says,
"Take a seat."
There is 3 sofas and 2 chairs. Gaston comes into the room and offer you wine, beer and some bread.
"Thanks you Gaston. I am sorry about my rude manners earlyer. It's no excuses, but I sent a request to Grandpre three months ago and not only they didnt send anyone, but they didnt even reply to it to decline."
He then sit behind his desk and continues.
"What I need is that you recover some document that got stolen by the Kobold 3 months ago. I know they might have destroyed them, I sure hope they haven't, but I want to at least try to have them found. They are pretty old and signed by Frederic Auguste, you cant miss them if they still have it. Also, they took our original family banner. I'd like it back as well if you find it. It look like this one, but with some oak tree seeds instead of the three suns."
Filass then point a banner (http://picasaweb.google.com/Dekkah1/Westernlands#5444816379057344194) hanged on the wall.
"I'd like the main goal to stay between us. You can say your looking for some action or that I asked you to get rid of the kobolds. You can do what you want with the kobolds, I dont really care, they usually leave us alone and cause very little trouble. Any questions?"

Most people haven't lost much : some money, tools, food and the like. Of course they aren't happy with it, but they fared better than the two young mens who died. "So, you want to know more about the kobolds, I guess your planning to hunt them down. A good thing for us. The Daucht and Filion families will sure be happy that their sons get avenged."

"Well, I did some research after the attack. It appears that Deserte got hit by the same kobolds a month before us. We know because the few they managed to kill we're bearing the same tatoo than ours: A green three fingered paw.. The attack was mostly the same : little casualties and lots of looting. I sent a letter to Yarten, they haven't been attacked, but they know the clan. Their camp should be located somewhere north of the Green Peaks (Les monts Vert), if we can trust the elves. Sadly, there isnt much more I can tell you that you probably haven't learned from the others you speak with."

Herrick the trapper appear to be sceptical about your tracking talents,
"Well good'luck to ya findin' tracks after three months eh. Will cost ya mor' when ya come back. But I wil' be fair, I drop m'price to 7 gold, this is my last'offer. "
You can see he is a bit desperate. It is up to you to decide if you want to hire him or not (you can roleplay a counter offer).
But from Arundela reply, I assume she declined it.

When your all ready to move, Arundela start to search for tracks. The process is slow and hard, but she manage, after an hours scanning the area, to find some traces that might be left by the kobolds. It isnt really tracks, but more a path where a big group marched. They did not travel in a straight line, which make Arundela job harder than it should have been. You travel the whole day south and finaly find a bigger area where traces of a big camp with three firepits. The grass just started to recover. A week or two and no traces would have been left of this.
Just before the sun set, Arundela manage to find the path the group took when they left that camp. They have gone south-west, like the elves told Darb.
The night is uneventful, but some heavy rain start to fall in the morning. You know that following the few tracks left will be harder with the rain.
That was a perception (tracking).

In the morning, under heavy rain, Arundela proceed to follow the few tracks she have. The path isnt really clear and you often find yourselves guessing and then searching for some times until you finaly find some more evidence of the kobold passage. After about 6 hours of travel, you seem to have lost them. Arundela double back up to where you've found the last marks. After some time analizing the area, Arundela conclude that they seem to have splitted up in three groups. One going south, one going south-west, one going west. At this point Arundela isnt sure she could find more tracks and follow them, since the groups have thined and surely left less markings.

You estimate to be in the middle of the forest area north-east of the Green Peaks (Les monts verts), about half way between them and the Grandvents.
If you still want to go with tracking, an other perception skill must be rolled.
What do you do?

"I think we need to get into the kobold mindset."

He pulls out his silver stringed lute and starts strumming a kobold folk tune, changing his features into that of a kobold to try and get the right vocal sound. He looks at the tracks and tries to imagine which group would be carrying the loot and which way they would go.

Azhardian transform into a Kobold and start analizing the situation. Looking at each differents paths the kobold took, walking in them a bit, coming back. He is checking the plants and grounds, sometimes lost in his music and thoughts. Sometimes going on top of a small hill to observe the area as much as he can.
After half an hour, he points the south-west way
Interesting choice of skill and idea ;). Might have been also nature, but it doesnt really matters, with a roll that high ;).
I have sent you more details in a personnal message - information you can share with other as you please.

This will give next person who lead the group toward the kobolds camp a bonus (+2) to his roll (might be perception to try and find more tracks, nature to find the place or any other original ideas). Before I make you move again, I need know how you orient yourselves, since there is no easy to follow path, you've only got a general direction (south-west).

The kobld folk music although not his taste gets him thinking like a filthy Kobold. "I know these critters are not very brave so most likely the larger group would be carrying the loot."

ok, didnt see the relink. writting the result then lol. When Darb look for tracks, he find some faint ones *(bronken branchs and stuff like that). After nearly the whole day of travel south-west, and a couple more clues, you come to a place where you can clearly see an old print of a bear and realise you've been following its tracks just as you come into view of a carvern that might have been his cave. In front of it, you see the bones of the bear and his cubs. At first, as you inspect the scene, you see some traces of wolves, but one of you notice a clear trace of a kobold feet and some evidence that they are the one who killed the bear. The wolves only ate what the kobolds left. It would appears you're on the Kobolds hunting grounds and this false chase was not a total lost of time.
Even if the kobolds traces are more recent, the hunter pack groups isnt large and tracking them still is a challenge. As you look around , directly south, at about half a day on foot, you can spot the Green Peaks. Near the cave, there is also a small rive that go directly west.

After some time searching, Darb find some traces (broken twing). You all follow him for the rest of the day, as he skillfully find more and more traces. Around dinner time, Darb find some fresh tracks of a small group group of kobold. Darb proceed in follwoing these, and after about half an hours, you can spot from afar a small group of kobolds taking the meat of some bear they fought and killed.
They are at the base of a small hill, oblivious of your presence and not to concern with watching around for possible danger.
There is 8 kobold with a small lizard-like pet.
Five of the kobold have javelins and pikes, the others carry slings and swords.

Skill challenge completed. Success : XP : 300 (60 each).
What do you do? I'll post a map soon. You can discuss it for now - you're too far for the kobolds to hear you.

Here is an image (http://picasaweb.google.com/Dekkah1/Westernlands#5450763956634451922) of the area with the kobolds.
The small bushes provide concelament. The trees trunk provide cover. The two hills (in the pink area) goes up to 10 feet high at the top.
The red icons are the pike and spear kobolds.
The blue icon is the pet.
The black icons are the sling and sword kobolds.
The horse is the bear corpse.

You arent on it because you see this from afar. If decide to attack them and you want to approach and surprise them, you'll have to make stealth check. If you want to go hid behind the hill or stay at the edge of the map, you do a stealth+5 roll. To approach them behind a tree or bush, you do a stealth roll.
If you opt for an attack, I need to know where you all want to go (position on the map).
PS : I'll try to find a better program for the map later. this one is complicated to use sadly.

He lowered his pike with one hand between you and his group, as to hold them up from attacking. With his other hand he his holding his pet which is showing its teeths and would nothing more than to charge you.

After your short rest, you quickly hide the corpses and take care of the surviving kobolds. Andariel lead you south a couple hours, toward the mountain. When your at its foot, you head west for about an hour in a used trail until he stop the group, warning you that the town is close by. He goes out of the trail, starting to slowly go up into the mountain. There is no trail, but it is still easy enough to walk. You end up on a small plateau.Your about two hundred feet south of the camp and around 130 feet higher than it. You can clearly see the kobolds camp (http://picasaweb.google.com/Dekkah1/Westernlands#5462243365771375074).
Right in the middle of the village stands a large dragon statue. It is made of stone and is nicely crated. The statue is on back legs, wings deployed and his head upward as if he was roaring to the sky.
The village is built around the statue. To the south, there is 3 crudely crafted houses, made of wood and mud. There is 10 crudly crafted tents made of animal skins randomly placed west and east of the statue. There is also one pen with a lizard pet, on the east side.
There is 4 firepits within the village.

You see a dozen younglings moving around the town and two adults taking care of them. There is two hiden guards in the trees north of the town. You see one kobold fighter with a pike in the town.
You can easyly estimate that the town should have much more kobold in it. Either they arent around right now, or they are hidden or asleep within the tent and houses.

When I said you took care of the kobolds, I need to know what you did with them (bound them or killed them - or something else)

Map description :
The large dragon statue is in the middle (covering the whole pink squares - not just the small area statue is).
The three wood/mud huts are the pink areas south- bottom of the map - (the brown lines are the doors).
The others pink areas are the tents (each of their opening are near the statues).
There is a big hill on the south-east side. Its tip is 10 feet high.

The two small black dragon pog are the 2 kobolds sentries in the trees.
The small blue dragon pog is the lizard pet within his pen (brown line is gate).
The goblins pogs are the youngling kobolds (these should not pose much threat).
The small red dragon pog is a fighter male kobold.
The 2 skeleton kobold are the female preparing some meals.
The 4 circles with red/orange within are firepits.

You can spot a good and easy spot to reach without stealth and easy to defend that is close to the ground level to the east, just out of sight of the town. Darb

Settling in with Brutus, Andariel to build up a low wall to hinder the pursing Kobolds. Darb continues to work on/with his kobold captive.

A calm in his voice he turns to the bound Kobold. "You have my word as a guardian of the all-sprit that we will not harm your clansmen. We mealy want the artifacts back. If our comrades get attacked while trying to sneak in we will have to defend them. We will try our best not to fatally wound anyone. Right guys?" He turns to his companions.

A couple minutes after you finished your fortifications, as Darb is discussing with Zlik, Andariel hear some unatural sound from the east. You just had time to hide and silence Zlik before a kobold hunting party like the one you've beated before appear walking along the edge of the forest an hundred feet from you position, returning to their village. There is 3 pikers and 2 slingers with a pet and they appear unaware of your presence.

What do you guys do?
If you want to let them pass by or ambush, them a stleath roll will required (I'll add circumstancial bonuses to the rolls myself).
If you ambush, explain me what you do.

Azhardian

The Kobold guard with the shield tell a woman,
"Wake up the others, just in case"
He turn to you and says,
"You come with me, we go check this out. And you too.", pointing the kobold in the tree behind you. He then move toward to animal pen and go there to bring it with him.

The woman start to go toward a tent.

The ratmaster get out of his hut, and look around,
"What is this?"
"I dont know chief, we are going to check it out."
Booktooth nod at this and start to look in the sounds direction.

Disguised as a kobold, Azhardian's mind spins. Should he aid Pock in getting the banners? Should he go with this group and see what the fight is, in case his allies need help? Should he create a larger distraction in the village? He could start a fire? No that would create too much death and destruction. I could slow them from leaving, but that might cause Pock a problem. No, best to go with them, I can always slow them on the path.

Azhardian fell into line behind the kobold, straining his eyes to look towards the battle, whilst keeping his ears alert for Pock. Now he wished that he had invested in a familiar back at college.

Okay. Hold on. Couple questions: Do the kobalds see me? (I'm not sure if you meant none of the players saw me or nobody did.)

And do any of the kobalds have cover from my spot? It looks like I'm on top of a cliff, but maybe that rock between me and them is providing them cover.

EDIT: Questions having been answered, here's my turn:

A figure, masked by cloak and hood, emerges from the rocks in the east. Wordlessly, he lends his aid to the party, bringing up a crossbow and opening fire upon the kobalds.

Brutus strike a the lizard, making it yell in pain.
Seeing Darb arrive, the piker close to him attack him, while the others, taking advantage of it position, strike at Andariel. They both manage to score a hit, the one hitting Andariel bloodies him and use his pike to push him backward. They then reposition themselves Around Andariel.
The badly injured slinger, seeing his partner getting slain by a barrage of bolt, show kobold courage and stay safely hidden from the ranger, shooting at the monk instead and scoring a hit, the clay bullet breaking on the impact, engulfing him in some sticky goo.
To the north-west, you see some reinforcement arrive from the kobold village. There is one lizard pet and a kobold fighter using shortsword and shield. Behind them, 2 kobold slingers follows.
The small lizard burst into a run toward the fight, barely making it to fray, leaving himself all open.

Tanor curses as he is stuck to the ground, and again as the lizard bites him, and as he's struck, his features contort and he becomes more bestial; his fangs pronounce more, and he suddenly sprouts more hair. He shifts his crossbow to his off-hand, and draws his sidearm, a shortsword. The changeling draws another arrow, and shoots the kobold that he finds sprawled at his feet.

Attack vs AC [roll0]
Damage [roll1]
The-first time the target misses with an attack before the end of your next turn, it falls prone.

Noticing Darb's plight, Azhardian uses a second Majestic Word to allow him to regain HP + 4 and slide him to A24 to block the fallen kobold.

He then looks around to see who is left standing.

Darb vines grab the kobold leg and a he pull hard, the kobold fell over, hitting his head on a rock, bashing his skull in. The kobold lay at Darb feet, quite dead.
Tanor aim at the prone piker, the second arrow missing by an inch above his head, right after the first hit him.
The slinger, seeing all his friends down, take a run to the village.
Andariel, closing on the prone kobold but miss.
The kobold then stand up and strike Andariel pushing him back and making him black out again, blood pouring from the wound.

Darb attack kill the fighter.
Tanor first attack hit, second miss.
You had -2 because of prone (range).
Also, the quary damage require you to spend a minor action to Quary the target first (which you havent and doesnt have any action left).
Twin strike doesnt add dex bonus to the hits.
Also, I am unsure if you reloaded your crossbow after your last attack (I ont bother to check), but remember that crossbow requires a minor action to reload.

The kobold lack of focus preventing him to dodge Brutus hammer, receive it right behind the head, snaping his neck. The kobold slowly fall to the ground.

As you notice all the kobold around you are down, when you look toward the village and the fleeing kobold, you can spot a cople kobold which held their ground for now, ready for a fight.
You notice that some of them are looking in the mountain direction, whch makes you notice Pock who is running your way on the lower cliff.
There is a old kobold surrounded by rats who is looking at you. You can notice a hint of intteligence as he analyse the situation. For now, you dont have the 5 minute required for a short rest (yet).

The ratmaster appear to be affected by Darb words. As one of the fighter take an other step, the ratmaster put again his hand to block its path and takes his eyes from your group for the first time looking directly at his allies and tells them something you cannot hear. They settle down and fall back into their town but most remains in sight, ready to charge back if need be.

Azhardian takes a look at Andariel wound and stabilize him.

As Darb free the kobold prisoner and push him forward, it nearly fall over. The small kobold, taken by surprise take a few slow steps, unsure of what to do before walking faster toward the ratmaster.

The ratmaster and his rats swarm walk toward the kobold prisoner to meet him half way. Just before they reach each others, an loud and long horn sound comes form the village. The sound is extremly loud, so much that it is painfull to your ears, more than you would have thought it possible. You are pretty sure it can be heard from quite far, but not sure of how much exactly.

The ratmaster doesnt really react at the sound and start to talk with the prisoner, still keeping an eye on you all.

These are the kind of action that make the game move foward :).
I like it that way BTW :).
This takes a couples rounds for sure (Darb need to walk to get the prisoner and all). You all can do other stuff meanwhile if you want or you can pick up form where Darb action led :).
