Anyone know of a good utility for making maps and tracking models on it?
Preferably online somewhere and free, anything that would do the job of the real world map and minis decently well?

Please and thankee

Edit: for making maps and using them in real time for combat:

maptool + This Link (http://forums.rptools.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=806) = AWESOME!

is your best bet.

My group, after more then 10 different campaigns, decided to throw world maps in the trash. Now we just get a map of a continent, flip it upside down or put it in another direction.
Europe is almost unrecognizable this way :smalltongue:

Are you talking about combat maps? If so, I have experience with Battlegrounds and Maptool. Both are, in not completely free, very inexpensive.

My experience suggests that Maptool is the better program, but only if you have the coding ability to use all of its strengths. For those not tech savvy, Battlegrounds is easily sufficient.

Edit: Can anyone offer any advice on how to post a pic on the forums? I see the image button and I know to spoiler it to avoid stretching, but hosting the image on Imagebam leads to a broken link...

I mean for squares each representing a 5ft square, to track combat and basic room exploring jazz.

Yep. Then Maptool (http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=maptool-faq) and Battlegrounds (http://www.battlegroundsgames.com/) are what you're looking for.
