Hey playground,
i was thinking of taking leadership at my next level with my fighter feat for that level. i know what kind of character i want my cohort to be eventually, i was just wondering what build i should use (race, stats, etc) because my DM is allowing me to stat him up entirely (with his direct supervision, he doesnt want us too optimized and all). it will be a 32 point buy for him

i want a guy who will take both full levels of combat trapsmith, from complete scoundrel and initiate of the sevenfold veil. he will start at level 8, and i wanted to have him go trapsmith first.

for his first level, i was thinking either rogue or spellthief, as those two will give the character trapsense and the first level skillpoints.

i was thinking that after that he take levels in wizard so he can get the necessary 4th level abjuration spells. i dont know if he should be a focused specialist or any kind of variant, i was hoping you guys had ideas for this.

so, what race should i use, and what build would you guys suggest?

First off, the Leadership feat isn't a fighter bonus feat.

Assuming you have another way to get it however, it could be fun to give your cohort the leadership feat, and have it give it's cohorts the leadership feat, and keep the train going.

Yeah, I'm thinking getting a second character is enough without a 3rd or a 4th. Have fun building whatever you want, I'd prefer if you wouldn't give him leadership though.

IIRC, you can't give a cohort the leadership feat.

You can. It's considered rather cheesy though, particularly when you optimize so that the chain gets far longer than it should.

what level and charisma do you have ot have to give your followers the leadership feat?

Minimum : Level 8, Charisma 12.
This way, you get a level 6 cohort who can have the Leadership feat, if your DM agrees. If your own cohort has no charisma bonus, his/her cohort will be level 4.
Second layer : Level 10, Charisma 14.
This way, you get a level 8 cohort who can have the Leadership feat, if your DM agrees. If your own cohort has a charisma of 12, his/her cohort will be level 6 and will get the leadership feat, with his/her own cohort being level 4.
Third layer : Level 12, Charisma 14.

You get a cohort level 10, Charisma 14
She/He get a cohort level 8, Charisma 12
Who get a cohort level 6, Charisma 10.
Who get a cohort level 4, Charisma whatever.

....
Very Abusive Layer : Level 17, Charisma 18.
You get 1 follower level 6 with Leadership feat.

And that's in pure core. With, I think, Heroes of Battle, you can get a cohort who only under-levels you by 1. With Dragon Magazine and using Draconic Cohort, I think it's technically possible to have a never-ending line of cohorts.

Yeah, it's possible, the trick is just finding a DM that would actually allow it... :smalltongue:

Infinite Leadership cheese. (not a record. I know others could improve upon it)

Leadership Score 21 gives 1 6th level follower.
Followers do not need to be lower level

infinite 6th level followers

Magic Blooded Necropolitian Spellscale (or other race with +2 cha)
6th Level Follower: 6
Base of Operations +2
Fair and Generous +1
Feats:
1: Noble Born +2
3: Ecclesiarch +2
6: Undead Leadership +2
Cha: 18+2(race)+2(magicblooded)+1(4HD)+3(venerable)+2(c loak of Cha)
Total Cha 26 [+8]

Total Leadership: 6+2+1+2+2+2+8=23

thrallherd can make the best chain, since they get 2 cohorts at level 10 of the class, so at 20 you could have 2 cohorts (level 19 and 18) each with 10 of thrallherd (2 18s and 2 17s), once again 10 levels of thrallherd for, etc etc etc.
i think you'd end up with 1 level 19, 3 level 18s. meh i can't do all the math, but you'd end up with something like 6000 level 6 COHORTS! half that number again for each level higher, so 3000 lvl 7s. it gets a bit complicated because of the double cohorts (-1 and -2 level) but thats a shedload of cohorts. and you'll have believers pretty much to the power of 10 of that...

also, if your being that abusive you get the bonus that thrallherds don't lose any leadership points for causing the death of cohorts so expend them like bullets! and yeah, any DM that allows this or anything like it needs to be committed immediately.

Remember only thralls of 15th level have doubled
Thralls of 14th level or lower have only 1 thrall

At 20th
You have 1 19th and 1 18th
The 19th has 1 18th and 1 17th
The 2 18ths have 2 17ths and 2 16ths
The 3 17ths have 3 16ths and 3 15ths
The 5 16ths have 5 15ths and 5 14ths
The 8 15ths have 8 14ths and 8 13ths
The 13 14ths have 13 13ths
The 21 13ths have 21 12ths
The 21 12ths have 21 11ths ...

Total from 19-5
1/2/3/5/8/13/21/21/21/21/21/21/21/21/21

Assuming all have a thrallherd score of 25 you get
You+1+2+3+5+8+13+21x9=222 times the believes from a score of 25

Total thralls from 19-5
1/2/3/5/8/13/21/21/21/21/21/21/21/21/21
Total believers from 6-1 (assuming none are thrallherds)

*thinks* ach sorry, i'm an idiot.

still is a shedload of cohorts though, between all those cohorts and all the followers you'd have a small city/army (maybe both...) to respond to your whims
